6th Gen OR & AS not set in Hoenn?

This is definitely going to be set in Hoenn.

Like many others, though, there will probably be extra areas hopefully.

I'd really like to see something like the Sevii Islands, or even some new islands made up! I really don't like it when the aftergame is dull and boring (looking at you B/W, X/Y, pretty much any first games of a generation except for G/S.)

I understand where y'all are getting at with the whole "new world" thing. But you guys have to remember they are translating those quotes from Japanese and not all words fit well to an English word.

Besides, serebii already stated it's going to be a remake of ruby and sapphire.

It was explained somewhere that OR & AS is a remake of Ruby and Sapphire so it is undoubtedly Hoenn Confirmed. I'm thinking the new region the backpacker stated would most likely happen on the third version where XY and ORAS stories converge most likely.

I do like this theory. A sequel to XY which can somehow connect the story of ORAS into it... maybe the protagonists you make in XY and ORAS appear in the "sequel" as some kind of supporting NPCs in some epic finale or something? That would be awesome.

But yeah, I'm 140% sure ORAS will be set in Hoenn, no doubt about it.

Not really, this was based off of the North American promotional video, which has an entire (English-speaking) marketing team behind it. And Serebii knows as much about this as we do :p

But yes these games are gonna be set in Hoenn. Definitely not arguing that.

Ah, ok. xD I thought you guys were getting them from quotes.

A "spectacular new world"?

"For one example, the original games were located in the Hoenn region, but the announcement of the new games mentioned a "spectacular new world."

What do you suppose Game Freak meant by this? I don't think they're introducing a whole new region, or else there wouldn't be any use of remaking Ruby and Sapphire. If they are making some alterations for Hoenn, what do you think they'll be?

(I've looked around for a thread like this but couldn't find any, but I'm sorry if there is!).

I'd say maybe some developments in the looks of towns (I don't be graphic-wise) but rather layout and infrastructure. There might be new buildings that weren't in RSE, new areas, secret areas etc.

As for Hoenn as a whole, maybe each version would have either water>land (for AS) or land>water (for OR)? Other than that..I don't really know what else they could change to fit the "new world," unless of course they introduce new region which I kind of doubt. It would be pretty cool though! ;O;

I think it's just PR talk, frankly. People were unsure about such phrases on if the game even meant if it would be in Hoenn or even a remake, and then the next day they clarified it.

Probably because a fair number of people buying would be kids, i.e. people who didn't play RSE originally. So for them, it's a spectacular new world. I think in the end, a few routes maylook different, and maybe there'd be the odd extra area, but nothing else. Kinda like how HGSS was done - there was route 45 and the Safari Zone, and a revamped Rock Tunnel/Seafoam Islands, Viridian Forest back to its former glory, etc.

Most likely they meant that we would see Hoenn in a new perspective since we are finally going to see Hoenn in 3D so that's kinda what GF would mean.

Unless they meant that there would be a new twist or areas to explore, That I dont know.

It probably means that they're just enhancing the original Hoenn region with the graphics of the 3DS. To spice things up a bit they might also add a few new areas either for post-game or as part of the storyline. I'm guessing it's just for advertising purposes and making the game look good or something. And as people said before, some players have never even touched the original R/S/E so it'd definitely be new to them.

I don't think they'd alter Hoenn necessarily, they'd just improve the things that are already there. The land > water idea for the versions sounds nice but it's unlikely to say the least. Just my thoughts though. :)

Alternative's explanation sounds very reasonable; a lot of new people have been introduced to Pokémon after generation three, so for them, it's totally new. For us, I don't know... maybe it's just new graphics and features? Aside from that, I wouldn't look too much into it. They're not giving us a new region or anything; it's still Hoenn. XD"

I'd say that they're aiming this at the younger generation who wasn't around to play Ruby & Sapphire when they were released, it was 12 years ago mind. Also we're getting to revisit Hoenn in 3D which in itself is a complete overhaul which makes it feel like a new world, there could also be the addition of new areas.

I bet they're going to be making some kind of new thing/event/pokemanz/town? to make it seem at least a little new, so than it won't end up becoming some re-textured repackaged game, either way, personally I wouldn't mind at all, I would just play it for fun.

Definitely loving the idea of this. I'm thinking either ORAS will introduce a new region to go alongside Hoenn, possibly as some kind of post-game, or we'll see the two games mingle together into some follow-up of X&Y. But since they've already been confirmed remakes, we know that ORAS will definitely center around Hoenn and the story of the originals. But whether they'll expand on the post-game or not with stuff related to a new region, is something that can't really be said.
