Red hack: Pokémon Maize Version [BETA 3 RELEASED]

Drop me a private message with a link and I'll definitely give it a whirl!

I'd be more than happy to help with a Gen I or II game, no matter the premise! :3

Although, I'll probably spend more time talking to NPCs than anything lol. #EasterEggHunter
Cool, you can catch all of the spelling mistakes! Because that's fun, right?

In other news, I just added a new area that features a long bridge that was destroyed by crazed birds, and there are some direct relationships with the Unova bridges. This area also features a brave bridge repairman.

Here's a short video that shows a fun thing in the 6th Gym. In this Gym, you have to beat all of the trainer in a row without leaving/blacking out. You also roll for status ailments before every battle, so it's tougher. Healing your party is one of the possible rolls.
That's scary good! Looks awesome! Keep up the great work!

You've definitely got me wondering what you'll come up with next! xD

Nice! That'll be interesting. So if you lose, you have to restart from the first trainer?

Yeah. That's the idea. The other gyms are fairly easy, so I thought this would be a nice change. I did it by resetting the trainer flags every time the map is loaded. The trainers all use a random selection of pokemon. It fits nicely with the battle factory, since they're in the same city.

I actually like the capitalization, and I think it helps emphasize items, places, names, etc.. So 0% chance. Sorry.
No need to apologize! It's your hack lol.

I've been working on a DeCap patch for Yellow, a patch that does nothing except DeCap, and it got me thinking about how many other hackers might be interested. Guess I know better than to send you a link when it's done. :) To each his or her own~

Thanks for the info though~

Can you extend the pokemon around 200+? its ok if you can't but I want a decapitalization for an extra feature. you can do it right? loving gb/gbc hacks lately. don't know why.
My plan is to have around 200 Pokémon in the final version. Right now, there are 176. I like capitalization, so that's a "no" on decapitalization. Gen 1/2 for the win.

What are some other features that people would like to see in this game?

Maybe reusable TM's? Not sure if that can happen in Gen 1 but a lot of people seem to like the idea :D
You'd be surprised at what is possible. It's really not that hard to add new stuff when I'm just working with the source code of the game. Reusable TM's would be simple to add, but it comes with some other side-effects. For example, this would make the inventory extremely cramped. I would probably have to add a TM-bag that holds just the TMs, and that could just take up one slot in the inventory. This seems like an elegant solution to me, but it also takes away from one of the cool mechanics of Gen 1 games. In the paraphrased words of someone else, "The beauty of Gen 1 items is that an item is an item is an item." That basically means that you have to be conscious and careful about what you're carrying with you, rather than relying on a backpack that acts like a bottomless pit.

That being said, lots of people find the Gen 1 item system annoying, so it might be a good thing to add a TM-bag. I'll have to think this over some more. Thanks for the suggestion.

Oh, and I updated the protagonist's sprite today to make it look more like a Pokémon sprite, rather than just ripped from Anodyne:
[PokeCommunity.com] Pokémon Maize Version [BETA 3 RELEASED]

I encountered a glitch with my Weepinbell after I defeated my rival in Agate City in the current beta. After it grew one level (lvl 21 to 22), it suddenly came up with the evolution screen and evolved into a glitch and tried to learn its nickname as a move. Thankfully I had save stated and was able to stop the evolution after the battle when it tried to happen again. I tested to see if it would happen again, but it doesn't seem like it will. I used a rare candy, and the evolution screen didn't pop up, but it's still one of those alarming things you don't expect to happen.

Awesome. Would it be possible for you to provide me with details like who else you had in your party and what items you had in your bag? This happened to someone else, but I've been unable to reproduce the bug.

Hmm what can I think up this time..?

~ Updated Repel System
~ Key Item Bag (to keep all Key Items with you, as opposed to using up so much inventory space)
~ Bike Only areas
~ VS Seeker or the ability to challenge trainers to additional battles later
~ Casino update, more rewards, possibly a new game or two?
~ Quest Journal/Synopsis System
~ Character Selection (2 for each gender or 3 for all male)
~ Gender Selection (^)
~ Hunger/Thirst System
~ DNS
~ Wild Pokémon by time of day
~ .. I think that's it?

Just a few random ideas I threw in, to give you some ideas of your own, hopefully. The only suggestions here I'm really hoping for are Gender, Key Item Bag, VS Seeker, and the Repel Update.

EDIT: DNS is already in, right? xD

Hmm what can I think up this time..?

~ Updated Repel System - Definitely doing this.
~ Key Item Bag (to keep all Key Items with you, as opposed to using up so much inventory space) - I'm keeping the Gen 1 item system.
~ Bike Only areas - Already have plans for this because I'm not giving it to the player as an item. (The player has running shoes, anyway.)
~ VS Seeker or the ability to challenge trainers to additional battles later - I've never considered this. If the endgame requires lots of grinding, I'll definitely look into this!
~ Casino update, more rewards, possibly a new game or two? - I'm kind of leaning towards not having a casino... and having an arcade, instead! (Pong, Snake, etc.)
~ Quest Journal/Synopsis System - Meh. That's Fire Red's thing. I wasn't much of a fan.
~ Character Selection (2 for each gender or 3 for all male) - I would need to find some artists..
~ Gender Selection (^)
~ Hunger/Thirst System - No.
~ DNS - Already in the game.
~ Wild Pokémon by time of day - Yes, I've been procrastinating on this for a long time. Defining the wild pokemon on routes is my least favorite part of making this game.
~ .. I think that's it? - I guess so.

Thanks for the suggestions. My comments are bolded above.

Sorry if im completely ignorant about this: what is DNS and what is that for? Thanks!

Anyway add pokemon abilities!
