  • Pokemon Dungeon Escape - Act 1 - Chapter 41

The voting results are as follows:

1-1) We've recruited Milcery. Milcery's stats are according to a neutral nature, pending what nature we vote for it. Which of the following natures does our newly recruited Milcery have?
    A) Sassy (+Sp. Defense, -Speed)
    B) Modest (+Sp. Attack, -Attack) - 2 votes
    C) Quiet (+Sp. Attack, -Speed)
    D) Naughty (+Attack, -Sp. Defense)

1-2) We've recruited Hawlucha. Hawlucha's stats are according to a neutral nature, pending what nature we vote for it. Which of the following natures does our newly recruited Hawlucha have?
    A) Bashful (Neutral nature)
    B) Naughty (+Attack, -Sp. Defense)
    C) Careful (+Sp. Defense, -Sp. Attack) - 1 vote
    D) Jolly (+Speed, -Sp. Attack) - 1 vote

Tied. Would not mind a bit of extra Sp. Defense. Looking at a list of Pokemon with a higher Speed stat than Hawlucha though, Jolly might help it out more. I'll join D)

    2) Hawlucha is holding a Black Belt. Have Hawlucha hold a different item?
    A) Yes, have Hawlucha hold the Charcoal.
    B) Yes, have Hawlucha hold an Oran Berry. - 1 vote
    C) Yes, have Hawlucha hold a Sitrus Berry.
    D) Yes, have Hawlucha hold a Lum Berry.
    E) Yes, have Hawlucha hold a Berry Juice.
    F) No, don't swap Hawlucha's item now.- 1 vote

Tied. If Hawlucha had Unburden I'd back up the Oran Berry. It does still synergize well with Acrobatics, but the Berry might trigger too late to be of use. hmmm.
I think I'll just join F) for the boost to Fighting type moves. Feels like more bang for your buck, if that makes sense.

    The dialogue with Gurdurr:
    Spoiler:

We earned 2.040 Experience for turning in 'The Lost Shipment'.
Pansage has leveled up to level 23!
Simipour has leveled up to level 26!
Persian has leveled up to level 25!
Squawkabilly has leveled up to level 23!
Simisear has leveled up to level 25!

    The dialogue with Mienshao:
    Spoiler:

Unlike the Link Box in PMD the Link Box in this game links the experience gained by Pokemon that are in the Party, but not in the lead, to that of the lead Pokemon. They gain the same experience as the lead Pokemon now. They were earning half the lead's experience before.
There are currently 22 rollable items from the Treasure Chests. Two experience related ones, two special reusable orbs... and the other 18 are all looplets. Was fully expecting to roll one of those due to their sheer volume. Nope, rolled a 2 out of 22.

We arrive at the room marked as 13 on the map. We stepped on a Spin trap right before entering this room. Hawlucha is confused.
The Mankey and Mightyena will come attack us.

The room to our North has 3 hostile Electric types. The room to our South has 1 hostile Dragon type, but is blocked off by Strength boulders.

    G) Yes, go back and get the egg, but go to an Abra to send it to our hideout.
    H) No, don't go back for the egg and leave it be for now.

For eggs, instead of egg steps I'm going with rooms. Each egg has a base amount of rooms that need to be navigated. The amount of rooms varies depending on what's inside of the egg. Eggs can be hatched in two ways:
    1) In the party:
-Cuts the amount of required rooms in half.
-If there's a fire type in the party as well (the Fire type does not have to be the lead for this), the amount of required rooms is cut in half again, so 25% of the total required rooms.
    2) In the hideout:
-Multiplies the amount of required rooms by 1.5, so 50% more rooms to clear, aka 150%.
-Except if there's a Fire type at the hideout. In which case the normal amount of required rooms is used, so 100%.

This way we can still hatch eggs without having to take them on the party, but at the same time hatching them in the party would still be considerably faster.

9-2) There's a Togedemaru we skipped fighting in the room next to the Construction Company. Before heading to the next room, do we go fight it?
    A) Yes, go fight it with Hawlucha in the lead.
    B) Yes, go fight it with Pansage in the lead.
    C) Yes, go fight it with Simipour in the lead.
    D) Yes, go fight it with Persian in the lead.
    E) Yes, go fight it with Squawkabilly in the lead.
    F) Yes, go fight it with Simisear in the lead.
    G) No, keep ignoring it for now.

  • Oh right I keep forgetting to do a little PSA.
In case anyone's wondering what I've been doing with moves like Mud-Slap and Bulldoze, which normally have a 100% chance to lower a stat in addition to dealing damage.

For these types of moves I've lowered their % chance for the additional stat drop. Mainly for our own Pokemon's survivability. Like, let's say we enter a room with 5 enemies who all know Mud-Slap and we need 2-3 turns to get rid of them, per enemy. If every one of them were to use Mud-Slap on turn 1 only we'd be at -5 Accuracy by the end of the room. Assuming that our Pokemon even still lives to see that as it will already regularly miss earlier than that.

So basically I've lowered the 100% chance to drop a stat for moves like that to 40%. I played around with that percentage earlier on in the game. I had it at 100%, 60%, 50% 33% and then 40%, which I so far like the best so it's been on 40% for a while now.

This only applies to damaging moves that would normally also have a 100% chance to drop a stat.

    Edit:

Ooh. Super worth it for that chest.

Hm. Suspects all these X's to be a roadmap to more team members (or quests). Ought to prioritize these.

    1) B) Yes, eat a Persim Berry to heal the confusion. Oh, actually using one of these.

2-1) B) Yes, forget Acrobatics. Did not really need two Flying moves anyways. Helps for...Fire types? Avoids Electric types.

2-2) C) Yes, forget Burning Jealousy Initially planned to keep Burning Jealousy, but with no real preference. Just noticed the Electric room ahead.

    3) E) No, don't learn Assurance. Not as good as Bite.

    4) A) No, keep Hawlucha in the lead.

    5-1) E) No, don't use a Blowback Orb now.

5-2) A) Yes, use a See-Trap Orb. 1x2 room. Has four of these things. Ought to use them on one of these bigger rooms. Seems open enough to justify using.

5-3) B) No, don't use the Trapbust Orb now.

    5-4) I) No, don't use a Slumber Orb now.

    5-5) I) No, don't use a Slumber Orb now.

    5-6) E) No, don't use a Lob Orb now.

    5-7) E) No, don't use a Brushoff Orb now.

    6) D) No, don't heal up. Likely one-shots the Mankeys. Outspeeds it easily. Worries more about the Mightyena (and the Intimidate)

    7) A) Pick up all items.

    8) X) Go to room 12. Continuing towards an 'X'. Would not mind tackling an old, bigger room (like Room 3) after a Hot Springs visit.

9-1) B) Yes, go back and get the egg and add it to our party. We send Pansage back to the hideout to make place for it. Questions how worthwhile this is, though. Likely comes in super underleveled while also siphoning off (a little) experience from another possible party member. Would not be worth the resources to stuff candy into its face. Not against sending it to the hideout.

9-2) G) No, keep ignoring it for now.. Nah. Knows Spark for Hawlucha and Fell Stinger for Alolan Persian.

  • No update this week as I'm in the middle of moving things over to a new laptop due to my previous 10 year old laptop picking up a new problem last week.
Hopefully I can get the programs I use for this up and running smoothly on this one.

    Edit:

  • Pokemon Dungeon Escape - Act 1 - Chapter 42

The voting results are as follows:

    1) Hawlucha is confused. Heal Hawlucha's confusion?
    A) Yes, eat a Lum Berry to heal the confusion.
    B) Yes, eat a Persim Berry to heal the confusion. - 2 votes
    C) Yes, drink a Berry Juice to heal the confusion

Tied. Well I'm not backing Dig on both, seems unnecesary to have it on 2 mons. It's probably better off on Hawlucha, better than the Bounce it can soon learn due to accuracy anyway. Then again... Hawlucha is weak to Electric, whereas Alolan Persian is not....

Apparantly I forgot to include the vote for how we fight any enemies... given how we pretty much always fight Offensively, I've defaulted it to that option. I've included the question here, but with no votes on it, to make sure I don't forget it for the new week.

Tied. Could potentially avoid stepping on something like a Mud trap or Poison trap until the fights are over by using this. I'll join A).

5-3) The Trapbust Orb destroys all traps in the current room. Do we use the Trapbust Orb in this room?
    A) Yes, use the Trapbust Orb.
    B) No, don't use the Trapbust Orb now. - 2 votes

5-4) A Slumber Orb puts an enemy to sleep so we can pass it without fighting it or start the fight with it asleep. Do we use a Slumber Orb in this room?

    B) Yes, use a Slumber Orb on the level 25 Mankey and start a fight with it being asleep.
    C) Yes, use a Slumber Orb on the level 27 Mankey and avoid fighting it.
    D) Yes, use a Slumber Orb on the level 27 Mankey and start a fight with it being asleep.
    E) Yes, use a Slumber Orb on the level 26 Mankey and avoid fighting it.
    F) Yes, use a Slumber Orb on the level 26 Mankey and start a fight with it being asleep.

    C) Yes, eat a Sitrus Berry. Heals up to 250 HP.
    D) No, don't heal up. - 1 vote

Tied. Could get Swaggered by one of the Mankey... if they live a hit. Mankey has pretty low Defense though...
How many Berry Juices do we have... 7? Well I'll just join A) just in case then, I guess.

    G) Yes, go back and get the egg, but go to an Abra to send it to our hideout.
    H) No, don't go back for the egg and leave it be for now.

Was initally gonna back up sending Squawkabilly to the hideout...
However, that combo of both a Ghost and a Ground type immunity is kinda nice, and Pansage isn't fully evolved atm. If Pansage were fully evolved I'd back up sending Squawkabilly back, but in the current situation... I'll join B) and back up sending Pansage back.

9-2) There's a Togedemaru we skipped fighting in the room next to the Construction Company. Before heading to the next room, do we go fight it?

    Spoiler:

Hawlucha eats a Persim Berry to heal it's confusion. We do not teach Hawlucha Dig via TM.
We teach Persian Dig and have it forget Burning Jealousy. Persian does not learn Assurance.
We keep Hawlucha in the lead.
We do not use a Blowback, Trapbust, Slumber, Lob or Brushoff Orb now. We do use a See-Trap Orb in this room.
We drink a Berry Juice after defeating 2 opponents, but we didn't take any damage up to that point so the heal is ignored. We pick up all items.
We go to the Large Forest room next, to fight the remaining enemies and pick up the remaining items.
After clearing the current room we go back and get the egg and add it to our party. We send Pansage back to the hideout to make place for it. We keep ignoring the Togedemaru we skipped near the construction company for now.

The path we take is as follows:

    dungeonescapemove41-png.155406

Stepped on a Sticky Trap. The Brushoff Orb became sticky and can't be used until it's cleansed.

The Machoke's Delivery Service quest is basically just meant to introduce any quests/events we might've missed or not found yet by marking each room that has one. There needed to be at least one new one though, in case we found all of them before doing this quest. So I put a new Pokemon/quest in the room of whichever guard candidate got picked for Torterra. And in the event the Guard candidate quest hadn't been completed yet this Pokemon just wouldn't show up until it was. The Pokemon/Item changes based on who we sent to Torterra as a guard.

Tied. Kinda wanna get rid of it. Wondering if it might not be better to leave some enemies here and there for after our egg hatches though. Then again, Magby is a baby Pokemon so it's probably not worth saving it for exp. Could go either way here tbh.
Well it's a 1 vs 1 against Simipour, should be free experience. I'll join B).

    Spoiler:

We use the Iron on Simisear and the Carbos on Alolan Persian. We don't have anyone hold the Magnet.
We switch the lead to Simisear and fight any enemies offensively. We fight the level 23 Sunkern.
We don't use any Orbs in this room and we don't heal up after defeating 3 opponents.
We go make Machoke's Delivery to Breloom and we pick up all items we can currently reach.
We go to room 3 from it's right Southern entry.

We go fight the Magby in the room just South of here with Simipour in the lead, and we fight the two Surskit in the room just South of the room with Magby. We go make Machoke's Delivery to the Pokemon in this room while here as well. We also talk to this Pokemon and accept it's quest.
We go heal at the Hot Spring after all this, but before heading to the next room.

The path we take is as follows:

    dungeonescapemove42-png.155651

Stepped on a Mud Trap. Simisear's Attack fell 2 stages.
Stepped on a Grimy Trap. An Oran Berry went bad and was tossed out.
Stepped on a Sticky Trap. A Blue Shard became sticky and can't be used until it's cleansed.
Stepped on a Gust Trap. Simisear got flung into a wall and took 5 damage.
Stepped on a PP Leech Trap. Simisear's Acrobatics lost all it's PP.
Stepped on a Sticky Trap. The Charcoal became sticky and can't be used until it's cleansed.
Stepped on a Poison Trap. Simisear was Poisoned!

After the backtrack we stepped on a Wonder Tile while heading to the next room. Wonder Tiles clear any stat changes our Pokemon have, however we just went to the Hot Spring to heal so we don't have any. Wonder Tiles can be triggered repeatedly however, unlike traps.

    The Quest dialogue with Swalot:
    Spoiler:

We arrive at the room that was marked as 3 on the map, from it's right Southern entry.
The Clobbopus will only attack us if we get within 4 tiles of them. The Rhyhorn will also only attack when we get within 4 tiles of them.
The Tangela will only attack if we attack them.

As a result the nearest Rhyhorn and Clobbopus on the left are unavoidable. The Two Clobbopus and Rhyhorn on the right are avoidable if we go left and don't pick up items within their range. The Two Tangela and the leftmost Rhyhorn are avoidable if we go right and don't pick up items within their range.
If we pick up only the nearest Green shard, then we only have to fight two Clobbopus and 1 Rhyhorn.

    1) E) Yes, use it on Hawlucha. Just spreading out some Defense. Not too picky on which Pokemon, to be honest.

    2) E) No, don't learn Uproar. Hits harder with Quick Attack.

    3) E) Yes, switch to Hawlucha. A pretty good choice here. Sees Brick Break on Clobbopus and no Rock moves on Rhyhorn until level 30.

4-1) A) Offensively; nothing but attacking moves and prioritizes super-effective attacks if possible.

4-2) B) Fight all of the Rhyhorn and Clobbopus, but ignore the Tangela. Feels confident about being able to take Rhyhorn and Clobbopus. Nopes out of Tangela because of its surprisingly high Defense and Poison Powder. Saves that for Simisear to do.

    5-1) I) No, don't use a Blowback Orb now.

    5-2) A) Yes, use a See-Trap Orb. A bigger room, so sure.

5-3) B) No, don't use the Trapbust Orb now. Should be able to maneuver around traps.

5-4) Q) No, don't use a Slumber Orb now. Nothing too dangerous on the menu today.

    5-5) Q) No, don't use a Slumber Orb now.

    5-6) I) No, don't use a Lob Orb now.

6-1) B) Yes, eat an Oran Berry. Heals up to 100 HP. Likely unnecessary with Drain Punch and the See-Trap Orb. Amassed a lot of Oran Berries, though. Why not be a little extra safe with this many fights?

6-2) D) No, don't heal up. Heals up after this, so no.

6-3) A) Yes, go heal at the Hot Spring in this room.

    7) A) Yes, talk to the Abra.

8-1) A) Yes, go make Machoke's Delivery to Chansey.

8-2) A) Yes, talk to Chansey and accept it's quest.

8-3) G) Go to an Abra to send it to our hideout. Hates to have two eggs in the party.

    9) B) Pick up only the items that don't result in fighting the Tangela.

    10) K) Go to room 8. A good time for this. Enters a big room at full health.

    11) A) Yes, go tell the Blipbug it's safe to return to the tree stump with the Dottler.

Tied. One Rhyhorn more or less between B and C. That Rhyhorn is the lowest level one though and shouldn't be much of a threat, so I feel like we might as well just remove it. I'll join B).

The dialogue with the Blipbug before heading here:
    Spoiler:

We arrive at the room that was marked as 8 on the map.
The Yanma will attack us if we get within 4 tiles of them, which makes the nearest Yanma unavoidable. For the other 2 Yanma it depends on our path through the room, though the level 27 Yanma is basically only avoidable if we go toward the level 25 one for the Silver Powder and Chesto Berry only. The Fletchling and Fletchinder will come to attack us.

The room to our South has 2 hostile Ice types and 1 hostile Normal type.

    1) B) Yes, use it on Simisear. Eh, sure. Performed pretty well.

2-1) E) No, don't learn Bounce. Dislikes the miss chance.

    2-2) E) No, don't learn Taunt.

    3) C) Yes, switch to Alolan Persian. Should be able to outspeed and obliterate Yanma and Fletchinder with Power Gem (...barring a Detect + Speed Boost). Possibly takes a Fake Out for a Fletchling first.

4-1) A) Offensively; nothing but attacking moves and prioritizes super-effective attacks if possible.

4-2) A) Fight both the Yanma. A good matchup, thanks to no Bug moves.

    5-2) B) No, don't use a See-Trap Orb now.

5-3) A) Yes, use the Trapbust Orb. Seems a little unnecessary with Alolan Persian taking the lead. Hates to risk Power Gem getting PP drained. 5-4) Q) No, don't use a Slumber Orb now.

    5-5) Q) No, don't use a Slumber Orb now.

    5-6) I) No, don't use a Lob Orb now.

6-1) B) Yes, eat an Oran Berry. Heals up to 100 HP. Pure safety in case of Detect + Speed Boost + ...Supersonic?

    6-2) D) No, don't heal up.

7-1) A) Pick up all items.

7-2) A) Try to pick it up so we can take it to Mienshao later on.

    8) T) Go to room 14. Spots a delivery location to the south.

    9) A) Yes, go make Machoke's Delivery to the Dottler.

    C) Yes, forget Bite.
    D) Yes, forget Scald.
    E) No, don't learn Taunt. - 2 votes.

    3) Hawlucha is in the lead. Do we want to swap our lead for this room?
    A) No, keep Hawlucha in the lead.

    C) Yes, switch to Alolan Persian. - 2 votes.
    D) Yes, switch to Simipour.
    E) Yes, switch to Squawkabilly.

4-1) How do we fight any enemies in this room?
    A) Offensively; nothing but attacking moves and prioritizes super-effective attacks if possible. - 2 votes.
    B) Balanced; Uses both Attacking moves as well as non-attacking moves. Prioritizes super-effective attacks if possible. Uses attacking moves 66% of the time on average.
    C) Defensively. Only attacks once every 3 turns. Uses the other two turns for non-attacking moves.

4-2) One of the Yanma can be avoided depending on what path we take through the room. Do we fight one or both of the Yanma?
    A) Fight both the Yanma. - 1 vote.
    B) Fight only the level 25 Yanma.
    C) Fight only the level 27 Yanma. - 1 vote.

Tied. I kinda feel like we're already fighting a lot of Pokemon and wanna skip fighting it. That said Pokemon do move around a bit when we're not in the room so we might end up fighting it anyway later on as we potentially pass through the room again.
The Yanma currently don't know any Bug moves which is actually very fortunate for our Alolan Persian. Perhaps just get rid of it now to avoid bumping into it later when it does know a Bug move? Then again, if Simisear or Squawkabilly is in the lead when we potentially bump into it, it shouldn't be much of a problem anyway. Could end up having a more unfortunate Pokemon matchup in the lead though.
Ehhhh.... I'll just join A). Should be fairly safe to get rid of it now.

    A) Yes, use the Trapbust Orb. - 1 vote.
    B) No, don't use the Trapbust Orb now. - 1 vote.

Tied. We have a Dark type in the lead so we won't be stepping on any traps unless it faints, which could happen if we don't heal and there's a lot of damage pileup I guess. Can anything here live a Power Gem to the face though? And that's after the coinflip for a Fake Out on the first turn. Fake Out + Power Gem, potentially. Feeling quite confident in beating everything except that Fletchinder. But the x 4 weakness to Power Gem will probably still let us deal with that well enough. I'll join B).

5-4) A Slumber Orb puts an enemy to sleep so we can pass it without fighting it or start the fight with it asleep. Do we use a Slumber Orb in this room?

    C) Yes, eat a Sitrus Berry. Heals up to 250 HP.

  • Pokemon Dungeon Escape - Act 1 - Chapter 46

Machoke's delivery to the Dottler before heading to the next room:
    Spoiler:

We arrive at the room that was marked as 14 on the map.
The Vanillite will attack if we get within 4 tiles of them. The Bibarel will only attack if we try to pass next to it or if we attack it.

The room to our East has no Pokemon initially hostile towards us. The Room to our South has 2 hostile Ghost types, 5 hostile Water types, 3 hostile Dark types & 3 Hostile Flying types. I will most likely split this room into two for exploration if we go there due to how packed it is.

Oh, does the Dark type benefit prevent triggering the trap? Knew it detected them. Figured it was like a See-Trap Orb. Avoids them by going around them. Would still trigger a trap in a chokepoint.

    1) F) No, don't have anyone hold it now. No Bug moves.

    2) E) No, don't learn Amnesia. Not terrible. Prefers Yawn.

    3) C) Yes, switch to Hawlucha. Should be able to beat everything in one hit, thanks to the Black Belt.

4-1) A) Offensively; nothing but attacking moves and prioritizes super-effective attacks if possible.

4-2) A) Fight both the Vanillite and the Bibarel.

5-1) D) No, don't use a Blowback Orb now. No problems here.

5-2) B) No, don't use the Trapbust Orb now. Sees the traps. Accesses everything without issue.

    5-3) G) No, don't use a Slumber Orb now.

5-4) (No option here, but do not use a See-Trap Orb.)

    5-5) G) No, don't use a Slumber Orb now.

    5-6) D) No, don't use a Lob Orb now.

    5-7) D) No, don't use a Totter Orb now.

    6) D) No, don't heal up.

    7) A) Yes, recruit Sudowoodo and send him to the hideout.

    8) A) Pick up all items. Ooh, evolution crystal.

    9) T) Go to room 14. Might as well clear out the non-hostile room.

10-1) A) Yes, go turn in the quest with Alolan Persian in the lead. Will probably eat the traps on the Hot Spring revisit or something. Heals right after anyways.

10-2) A) Yes, go make Machoke's Delivery to the Hisuian Lilligant.

    5-5: G (why is there no 5-4?)

    5-3) G) No, don't use a Slumber Orb now.

5-4) (No option here, but do not use a See-Trap Orb.)

    5-5) G) No, don't use a Slumber Orb now.

I've been omitting the See-Trap Orb vote when we have a Dark type lead in a room as the traps are already revealed, albeit not permanently.
I didn't adjust the question numbers accordingly it seems. Everything after the See-Trap Orb vote was supposed to move up one number.

I'll just slide the See-Trap Orb vote in anyway I guess, so nobody has to change their answers on what they already voted on (also gonna edit it into the update):

5-4) A See-Trap Orb reveals all traps in the current room and the lead Pokemon will avoid stepping on them if possible. Do we use a See-Trap Orb in this room?
    A) Yes, use a See-Trap Orb.
    B) No, don't use a See-Trap Orb now.

You can either edit it in to your reply or make a new reply with your vote for this question, if you want.

Dark & Fairy types don't set off any traps they step on while exploring if they are the lead Pokemon yes.
I did do a PSA on it a while ago, though I know there's a lot to remember/take into account =P

PSA, for if anyone's wondering what the exact differences are between the See-Trap Orb, the Trapbust Orb and the Dark/Fairy type exploration bonus:

-The Dark/Fairy type trap detection only works while they are in the lead. If we enter the room with them and switch to another lead with a different type, the replacement will not try to avoid whatever traps the Dark/Fairy type saw that might be in their path. The Dark/Fairy type needs to actually explore the room to see and ignore the traps. Any traps they pass over will not go off, but can still go off later on, if another party member passes over them at a later point in time.

-The See-Trap Orb permanently reveals traps in the current room and all party members will try to avoid them, but a trap can still be rolled in a position that may be unavoidable on the lead's path through the room.

-The Trapbust Orb just destroys all traps in the current room, revealing them and making them unable to go off at all.

    From this post: https://www.pokecommunity.com/threads/pokemon-dungeon-escape.494043/page-5#post-10669790

There's also this bit from the opening post:
    Exploration benefits:
-Fairy and Dark types: Can detect traps and avoid setting them off. Works for the current room.

On a side note I've stopped enforcing the "increase/decrease amount of hostile Pokemon in nearby rooms" part for the Normal/Dragon type exploration benefits a while ago. It sounded nice on paper, but was a pain in the neck to implement tbh.

I'll either just leave the hostile Pokemon increase/decrease parts out and keep the second part....
or I'll be overhauling their benefits (Normal & Dragon type only) completely at the start of act 2. Haven't really decided what to do with them yet, kinda lacking ideas other then maybe some kind of additional dialogue/intimidate option or perhaps an intimidate option during exploration for Dragon types (like maybe decrease the odds of a Pokemon being outright hostile if the lead is a Dragon type).
