Post-Game - Previous Generation Starters!

In HeartGold & SoulSilver, After gathering all 16 badges and defeating the mysterious Red on Mt. Silver, you gain access to two gift Pokémon from Professor Oak and Steven Stone: The Kanto and Hoenn starter Pokémon! You only get to pick one from each batch though, and they are received at level 5.

Which Kanto starter Pokémon did you choose? What about the Hoenn starter? Why did you choose what you did?~ Did you use them for competitive play when WiFi for this generation was still up? Did you trade them to another game? Discuss! n_n

Awkward. I didnt know that. Where's Steven?

Too many choices! I didn't use them

I would recall I pick Treecko and Charmander, I still use and train'em

I didn't want to go through the hassle of training up so much for Red, plus I had already moved forward to 5th Gen before I even had the chance to train up so yeah I never got around to beating him nor obtaining the starters. But still, it's nice that you can get two alternate-region starters after finishing that tough battle.

By the time I was past Red in-game, I didn't really have a preference for what I wanted to do with the extra starters to get. But I thought it was kinda nice that they even included it to be honest, gives you motivation to beat Red and gives a nice callback to Gens I and III.

I don't know if you've looked it up or not, but nobody else has replied to you so. Steven Stone is inside Silph Co. after you do all of the other stuff.

I chose Bulbasaur and Torchic since I chose Totodile as my Johto starter. I didn't do much wi-fi battling back then but I did train them until they were fully evolved and used them in my gym leader rematches.

Thanks Sonata!

I'm not sure which I'll take, I have to see which starters I have and can get in FireRed, , Emerald, Soulsilver and Platinum :D

Bulbasaur and Treecko all the way hehe. 8] I love the grass starters and these two are no exception, Bulbasaur and Ivysaur are too adorable while Sceptile is just awesome.. though I got them so late I didn't feel the desire to actually train them at that point. D: So they were boxed and gathered dust, lol.

I chose Charmander (because zard) but I didn't actually end up grabbing a Hoenn starter I think? Or at least I can't remember! If I were to pick it up again though and choose one, I'd say I'd pick Treecko or Torchic for sure.

I took Squirtle and Treecko - both are some of my favourite Pokémon lines and I've always adored the cute little base forms. I don't think I trained either of them bar evolving for the sake of the Pokédex but I found it really cool that you at least had a chance to get them haha. I think it would have been more fun if you could have been given one earlier in the game to have the choice of training it on your main team but post-game I don't think starters are really interesting enough to warrant training up. The all have pretty standard movesets and I'm not sure I'd go out of my way to use one post-E4 haha.
