Ahh drafting's getting done :D

Hmm just my thoughts on replacing gym leaders...I don't feel it's a good idea to do it on the basis of their performance. Many points have been mentioned against it and I agree: I think we're all here to have fun and also work on our battling so it's a bit unfortunate to have to kick someone off by their performance.

Gym leaders aren't meant to be unbeatable but more of a challenge for the players. Rather than use their losses as a gauge, maybe gym leaders can help each other out and give advice: whether it be with new team members, strategies, or having practice battles among the gym leaders to work out their teams.

I was messing around on Showdown and I couldn't find a Doubles set-up that allowed free rules, it's either Smogon, VGC, or Battle Spot rules. Singles can be tweaked to fit whatever rules are set up here since Ubers pretty much allows anything, just keep a lookout that players are following league rules.

I can try to list off Smogon OU rules for the sake of discussion.

  • Banned Pokemon: Aegislash
  • Banned items: Kangaskhanite, Lucarionite, Gengarite
  • Banned abilities: Moody
  • Banned moves: Swagger
  • Baton Pass Limit: The move Baton Pass cannot be found on more than 1 Pokémon on the same team.
  • Species Clause (Two or more of the same Pokémon may not be used on the same team.)
  • Sleep Clause (Two or more Pokémon on a team cannot be asleep at the same time. Self-induced sleep via Rest does not count.)
  • Evasion Clause (Moves that boost evasion i.e. Double Team and Minimize are not allowed.)
  • OHKO Clause (One-Hit KO moves are not allowed.)
Item Clause isn't being used this generation but that can also be on the table.

A concern from the challenger's side though: would there be a split of gyms being either Singles or Doubles, or would all gyms/Elite 4 be using both? Some teams and strategies only play well on either format so challengers might get hiccups in their progress if they only account for one format.

On the rules, do they have doubles specific rules - or is that just what they call VGC? Because I do know VGC goes by the official pokemon tournament rules, which I do kinda know. However we're using 6 v 6 doubles instead of just 4 v 4.
VGCs rules are different from Smogon's rules, since Smogon is really just a large community of competitive battlers, whereas VGC is handled by TPC. VGC is a lot more lax in terms of rules; they hardly have any at all, and don't have tiers either (although most of the Pokemon on Smogon's Ubers list are also banned in VGC).

Comment regarding number per type - I would suggest that a 4:2 ratio is sufficient. Here's why: each Gym has a primary type, but a supplemental supporting type, if you will. Some type pairings don't have any Pokémon for them (I submit the Fairy/Fire pairing for your consideration) and forcing three of each type might be more limiting. Have a primary type and allow for four, and where type pairings DO exist, it should be suggested that a minimum of one pairing should be used.
I agree that perhaps a 3:3 type split is more of a general idea and not a strict rule.

But I don't understand the bolded part. Not all the Pokemon in the Gym would have to be both types selected by the Gym Leader/E4; they're just supposed to have Pokemon of both types on their team.

in all honesty this has been handled quite messily so far. Like I enjoy the premise of what we are gonna do but the typing could've been dealt so much better - like we really should've thought of the 3DS/Showdown type split division earlier. Probably should've waiting for spots to fill completely before we even started matchups. Just my $.02. I'm just excited for this to be properly up and running now.
Yes, I agree that this has been a bit of a mess, especially in regards to the type selection process. I think I've even said that before. But the main reason is basically what Polar was trying to say: that not everyone has been as active as they should, not to mention that this isn't being run as a dictatorship. Ideally, this type thing could've been over in an hour if it was possible for everyone to be online at the exact same time, but that's not possible what with time zones and everyone having other important things to do in the meantime, and Adam's internet problems.

Which, btw, I very much like the idea of having people PM their choices ahead of time so there's less holdup. I'll go PM all the remaining people about their type selections in a bit.

(EDIT) Is the High Council a go if we change the name, since people seem to think of Star Wars? I have no idea what High Councils have to do with Star Wars. -_-
Nah, we don't need to have the name revolve around Star Wars. And speaking of names, I forgot to mention earlier that I like the names "Quartz League" and "PokeCommunity Contenders Coalition".

Also, have we decided who's making the badges yet?

Touché. Still Indigo League in Gen. II and IV?
You mean you think there's reason for it NOT to be called Indigo League? That's what it says on Bulbapedia.

(a) Crystal was covered in Gen. II
(b) Did you just call us colourless?
(a) Then let's call it Quartz, not Crystal. :P
(b) No. In fact, you're the opposite! You've all got colors! Which is why a colorless thing is better, because (for example) Red and Blue would make you think of Fire and Water or X and Y. Also, "Rainbow League" doesn't sound great.

Remember, at some point, when there are enough Leaders, both of you should be replaced in the league. This may sound harsh, but think about it; you can fill in for people on vacation (even with their own team!) or suddenly absent due to, say, life emergencies (suddenly gone due to a tornado for instance, back five days later). It's hard enough managing your own team. To suddenly have to handle two teams is ridiculously difficult, I think you may agree. So when we have enough people, move someone into the E4 in Polar's spot and your spot is also filled. That way you stay as management of the league, and can concentrate on that.
I think that I should redo the "Manager" thing. Forget "High Council", us "Managers" should just be people we trust to do just as good, maybe even better, then me and Polar. So Zekrom, ya do just as well as Polar, wana join us Managers? Join us. Join us. Join us. (Also, me and Polar should just be known as the "Creators", the people who started it all.)

Holyyyyy crapppppp

I leave for like two days and this thread explodes

There's like three new pages

Jeez o.o
That's just how this thread rolls. Overactive like an ant on a sugar rush.

If i may ask and if its not too personal, why do you get 4 hours a day only? I mean you emphasized on that...
Well, I'm just 14, so I'm living with my parents still, and at age 14, they give you (or is it just me?) computer restrictions. And they think 4 hours is a lot. (Help me!)

(EDIT) Zekrom, I'll have a look around, but little chance I'll be the one to find someone with artistic talent and time enough.

I guess I can see this reasoning behind not wanting to expel people for performance, but the main thing in my mind when it comes to expulsion is activity. Inactivity>>>>>>>everything else for expulsion reasons.

Thanks for posting those rules so the people less familiar with Showdown's standard rules know what they are, especially since we may or may not be using those rules on both divisions.

And, ♥♥♥♥, I totally did not think of how the challengers would have to deal with needing teams for both Singles AND Doubles. I really don't know what to do with that. The main reason we went with allowing individual leaders to pick Singles/Doubles was because everyone here has preferences for their battle format. Polar's really into Doubles, while I on the other hand have never cared much for Doubles and stick to Singles and Rotations.

So that's something that needs to be addressed.

Yeah, perhaps its unnecessary to have a High Council and we should just consolidate it into a general Managers thing. But we can deal with that later; it's not like me and Polar wanna step down from our battling positions soon anyway.

The PMing to be able to select types when the person is on is a good idea and something I agree with. However I'd like to suggest that Zekrom (or whoever else has lists that people have submitted) not post immediately, that is, give people chances to post their own choices. Minds change, and a lot of us are quite active anyways.

^That's just a little nitpicky thing I thought of, but feel free to discuss it or whatever.

Regarding the Singles/Doubles conundrum, I think we should stick to Singles. In a perfect world, we could change conditions for (possibly) each Gym, but not many people have as much experience with other formats like Doubles, Rotation, etc. It might be possible that X/Y (cartridge) be a mixture of Doubles and Singles, and that Showdown be strictly Singles, though.

I think those rules should apply to the X/Y division also, again, to avoid confusion amongst challengers who want to challenge both divisions, and secondly because I see no reason not to apply those rules to the x/y division.

And maybe each challenger can have a set team for singles, and a set team for doubles. Same concept as before they just now have a second set team strictly for leaders/elites who work in doubles

Managers don't have to step down from being Leaders/Elites! I never said that! Me, Polar, and Zekrom can all be Managers AND Leaders/Elites! I don't see how it wouldn't work!

Oh. I just found this guy on DeviantArt (not very familiar with the site) who made some Badges for fun. They are quite cool! One of each type. But we want unique badges, so I was going to ask someone with a DeviantArt account to talk to him. https://gray-hero.deviantart.com/art/Fan-Made-Pokemon-Gym-Badges-415330354

Oh well.

The High Council idea was changed a little. There will be a few "Managers" (including me, Polar Spectrum, and if she wants, Zekrom) who will be in charge of the thing. But since this is by far a group project, the Managers will just work on things like using a Joint account to maintain a Thread, while everyone will get a say in this (unles thei talc lik thes).

Yeah, we can definitely still wait on people to officially post their picks themselves. The PMing is more for if the time limit is up for a particular person that we can just use that so this type draft doesn't continue to stagnate.

We're waiting on BlueBoi's pick now, iirc. How much time does he got left? Though I'm still waiting on his response to my PM.....

Yes! That's one more thing taken care of.

Also, what does everyone (besides Euphoric and Charizard Man, since they already responded to that) else think of the whole Singles/Doubles issue with the challengers?

What does your wife think of you and your computer?

She also plays pokemon. She gots Y.

She doesnt mind. And im not in my computer, since i dont have one, she has a laptop. Im getting my laptop for school through financial aid next two weeks. *thank you financial aid*

Im running everything through my galaxy s5...

*IM SO FACEYYY, YOU ALREADY KNOW!!!* LOL

if im not on my phone im either playing pokemon or playing guitar xD.

That depends. I honestly dont mind if the challenger has 2 teams and can switch back and forth woth pokes. Making it easier on us and the challenger.

Hangon - I have what I think is a very reasonable solution to that qualm that doesn't involve putting together a whole separate team of six for one or two battles of the whole league. Give me a moment to drive home so I can type it on a keyboard and not worry about autocarrot morphing "kangaskhan" into "karma shank"

If you know you're going to be on your computer and playing Pokemon a lot, you've gotta get the right person. Good job. (Look at me, the 14 year old giving advice to people who already know. Just Oblivion Wing me now.)

Also, Zekrom, I'm not sure. When I'm not using my big team on Restaurant Le Wow, I leave them in my Battle Box, prepared for all battle formats. :P
