Question Of The Day #4: How would you describe PokeCommunty to someone?

We all chose to join PokeCommunity for one reason or another. With that in mind, it can be said that PokeCommunity is more than just about Pokemon, but is rather all these separate entities that unify us under one umbrella site. So my question to you is when you look at PokeCommunity, what do you see? Do you see it as merely a Pokemon site? Or do you see it as something much more? What would you say were some of the pivotal or highlighting moments of your tenure on the site? If you were to explain to one of your friends what PC actually was, how would you word it/how do you think they would react? Do you consider PC an important part of your everyday life?

Feel free to discuss all parts of this topic below!

Umm people tend to think I'm weird when I say PC is really important to me. But the thing is, I grew up here. I've been here a decade. Next year will mark being here half my entire life. I've learned how to interact with people, how to lead people, how to plan/organize/put on events. I've learned to deal with drama and how to handle a variety of situations. PC has been my primary social interaction platform for so long. And most everything I learn here is applicable to an offline context as well. So many people say the experiences you have and share with people online 'doesn't count' somehow but they really, really do.

It's not hard to describe PC though. It's a forum. I don't always throw 'Pokémon' in as a descriptor just because like... PC is based around the franchise, sure. And even though Pokémon topics cover a large amount of the place, it's not all about Pokémon. Even when you're talking about Pokémon, it's about opinions and thoughts and interaction. Forums are social, no matter what their focus is.

I think PC is something that makes thousands of people happy. Whatever may be distressing them in their real lives, which we all know can be extremely taxing, they can resort to coming on this site to lift their spirits. It's like that for me, as well as a place where I can talk to people with similar interests. Because I associate myself so much with tennis in real life, I don't have that many friends who are interested in video game related things, and this place helps me get all that out. I truly enjoy the community here in it's entirety.

I once described my Pokemon-loving cousin as a "website to make awesome Poke-friends" because that was mainly the reason why I joined here. However, during the long run I realized that I don't feel obliged to talk about Pokemon, because many people here are into other things, and we can talk about these "things" without penalty or anything. And that's why I stayed.

I don't even know what my highlighting moments of my "PC life", I have a lot. If I were to choose just one, it'll probably be the April Fools 2012 frenzy with Lerroux and all. It was a lot of fun working with staff on that awesome prank and I had a looooot of fun.

If anything, no matter how much I described PC to my cousin, he still won't join it. >_>

\When I look at PC I see Rom hacks, challenges, and GC. Because that's where I spend most of my time, challenges not so much anymore, but yea. I see PC as a lot more than just a pokemon site because there's some users who don't even like pokemon, and hardly any of the conversations I've had with people on here have had anything to do with pokemon. Well I haven't really done much on the site. I really just post and do challenges to satisfy my emblem lust. I guess I would have to say when I became a supporter because that was the moment when I had decided I was going to dedicate myself to this site and since I didn't and still don't forsee myself being a mod, supportership is the next best thing I can think of. That and activity. Another defining moment was when I made my Final Fantasy club, and it still makes me happy that it hasn't died yet even though I neglect it for days sometimes weeks on end and I feel really bad about that. If I were to describe PC to one of my friends, I would probably tell them it's where all of the rom hacks that I give them come from. All of my friends play rom hacks and they've never asked where to find them, they just ask me to give them a new one when they're done with the ones they already have. And then I guess I would say that it's also a lot more than just pokemon. Majority of my activity isn't even pokemon based. I spend most of it just talking about everyday things in GC and then video games. I'm sure none of my friends would really care. They'd probably scoff at me but then as always once I left their side they'd go on and check it out just to see if it's really what I say and then if it's not to their expectations they'd bash me for being a weirdo or whatever. I consider PC to be a very important part of my life at the moment. I don't really do much of anything else so my mind is always occupied with thoughts about what I can do on PC, new topics, new challenges for people, new events to get people to be more active, just everything really revolves around PC and video games right now. I usually am sitting on my butt most of the day with my 360 or ps vita in my hands and my laptop on my lap with PC open refreshing it every like 30 seconds.

It's a haven in life and gem on the web, where interaction is not done through snappy comments but through stylish posts. It's a place where I can nerd it out or cool it up, be exactly who I want to be without nobody having the right to judge me openly. There's so much to do and so many people to meet. Oh, and also there's pokémon.

I see it as a place where you can let out your inner Pokemon nerd without having anyone lash out at you, and if you're not that much of a Pokemon nerd, there's always the off topic sections and places like video games, C&M, A&M and lots more. It's truly a place for everyone, catering to a wide variety of things. A place where you can be constructive, artistic and most of all, yourself.
