Almost all gens other than gen 1 and 2 and 5 have had remakes of earlier games. What game do you think is gonna show itself in gen 7? Probably, Kanto once again, or maybe BW, or Platinum, or..
Huff..Puff.. Let me take some breath. Tell others, what are your speculations? Are remakes even going to show up in gen 7? Or this new generation is going to assume the category of 1, 2 and 5.

Generation 5 was the last gen with no remakes. Assuming Sun and Moon will be Generation 7, I hope we won't see Diamond and Pearl remakes, not at least until the next gen handheld console (remember that each remake has at least two consoles between them).

I still feel like OmegaRuby and AlphaSapphire were disappointing so that's got me concerned if there's ever Sinnoh remakes. Besides the difficulty issue, they probably would keep the Diamond and Pearl Pokedex and teams which were bad. Why did they even keep half of the new Sinnoh Pokemon available post-game?

Sun & Moon are 7th Gen and going to be on the 3DS, and so far we've had a remake when a new handheld was out, such as FR/LG on GBA, HG/SS on DS, and OR/AS on 3DS so knowing the pattern I likely wouldn't expect D/P remakes until the next handheld is out.

Such a shame too...I'm incredibly eager for a DPPt remake.

DPt is still playable with the 3DS family system, there's no need for a remake yet. Even though the Sinnoh games deserve remakes.

Diamond & Pearl would be the most fitting given that the 7th gen titles are Sun and Moon. It really just depends on whether Game Freak are willing to make another set of remakes for games that have already received remakes or just none at all.

And Ruby and Sapphire remakes seemed more fitting for BW, at least prior to the reveal of their remakes' names.

Debatably FrLg were the only ones that came out one console later. Some consider the GBC an updated GB like the GBAsp to the GBA, DSlite and DSi to the DS, or the New3DS to the 3DS.

Btw, it's remarkable to think that if Gen V had remade RS and Gen VI had remade DP then now we would be talking about BW remakes instead...

It's really hard to make a guess because we don't know where Nintendo is going with the DS family in the future since the 3DS has been out since 2011, but suggesting people can still play DS games ignores that the online features don't work at all anymore.

I honestly don't expect Sinnoh remakes until 8th gen and/or the new handhold console is released. I feel there is a lot to improve upon from D&P and the remakes would have great potential on a new console.

Also the Distortion world would look amazing in 3D if they chose to include it seeing as technically it is a feature form Platinum.

I think the Sinnoh games deserve a remake simply because those games are just far too slow. Battle animations, menu navigation, PC organization, everything is extremely slow and clunky. A streamlined version is greatly needed, IMO.

If there is going to be a remake of DPPt, I'd rather see it in the next generation, where it can be on a newer console. Every remake has been at least 2 consoles removed from its original, and I think that's preferable since it makes for a much bigger upgrade (although DS->3DS would be a pretty big upgrade in comparison to previous consoles, since we'd be going from 2D to 3D).

Well, they have been going in order with the remakes. So it's natural to assume that Diamond and Pearl will be getting the next remake treatment. However, as stated, the remakes seem to follow the pattern of being released on a new handheld device and none of the remakes shared a handheld slot. I think it's safe to assume that D/P will be on the newest Nintendo handheld device ( assuming Nintendo doesn't shoot themselves in the foot) especially since the 3DS is starting to catch in age.

If Diamond/Pearl/Platinum were to be remade on a newer console, at best it would be the Nintendo NX, as that is the newest console that they're coming out with. You know, if just half of the speculations are true about that thing and it does have a handheld part to it. But to state my own opinion, I'd want a Pokemon Yellow remake.

I don't know what to make of the NX speculations (and to be honest, I would rather keep the handheld and console separate; I don't want to have to pay even more money to get multiple systems for trading with myself, plus I'm also hoping that Nintendo doesn't cripple their relatively-successful handheld business by coupling it to an overpriced console), but if the NX does have a handheld component, I could definitely see a DPP remake there, at the very least. Remakes are safe and sell reasonably well, so I expect to see more in the future. Personally, I wouldn't mind another Kanto remake (or a gen I/gen II sequel with both regions, maybe starting in Kanto and then going to Johto this time?), and maybe GF will make one, but with the re-released gen I games being compatible with Sun and Moon, I'm not sure I see Kanto being at the top of the list.

With the new system, though, I get the sense that there may be a push from Nintendo to get out as many popular first-party titles as possible. If that's the case, Pokemon moves systems, so I could definitely see a Pokemon game for NX, and not necessarily that many years into the console's lifespan. Nintendo didn't do well with Wii U, and 3DS didn't sell as well as DS, so the pressure is likely on for the next generation (particularly the console, but handhelds too) to pull the company back into some degree of prominence.

GF has stopped following their normal pattern for games (no stand-alone third versions for two generations, no remakes in the fifth gen, etc.), so I don't really know what to expect at this point. I guess it makes things exciting, but I kind of miss the predictability.

    This.

I think even Game Freak explicitly stated they love to catch us off-guard as of late, so what I could see them say next is "hey we're not doing remakes anymore because the originals are still backwards-compatible" or something. The era of predictability is over, or at least we think it is.

Do we really need any more remakes any time soon?

I'm more interested in seeing them work on brand new content and regions rather than rehashing what we've seen only a few years prior. It's gonna be a long wait before they remake D/P, imo.

I agree, I'm usually more excited for a new generation with a new region and features rather than remakes. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed both HG/SS and OR/AS but I feel like I'm more interested in new generations than remakes.

Remakes are a huge seller in the franchise for the games, that's most likely why they will continue to produce them. All 3 sets of remakes have sold beyond 10 million copies each, as long as there are new generations I'm pretty sure they will continue with the remakes. Even if they skip them every generation or so like they did with Gen V, there will always be a bunch of people who will want remakes for a particular generation.

Mhm, I hope it's a long time. I get nowhere near the same level of excitement revisiting old regions as I do new ones. I don't think a DPPt remake would differ enough from the original at this point and we can play that on the 3DS anyway. The more remakes, the longer we have to wait for something refreshing and new.
