So, talk of Praetors came up on irc and I stated that Praetor sounded much better and more unique than Assistant Admin, or something along the lines of that. Anyhow, what's everyone's opinion on this and would changing it back, ever become a reality?

I think Praetor is a way cooler name than "Assistant Admin" but tbh I don't see what it would do aside from aesthetic changes. I do think it'd be cool to do, though. :>

That sounds cooler... if a little evil.

If we're going to do that, we should call the admins "Overlords" and the super admins "Arch Overlords" or something. Reduces members to "Underlings", moderators to "Minions of the Realm", and the super moderators to "The Dark Warriors of Injustice and Spam!"

Don't really know if this will be allowed! XD
I think keeping the official names makes it easier to discern what staff member is what.

Though, it would be amusing to see.

It'd look cool...but newer members may not have a clue what they're meant to do, whereas if you see an assistant admin, you kinda understand what their position is.

I'll be honest and admit that I didn't even know what a Praetor was until I saw this thread and looked it up. I think that, as their job is to perform administrative actions, they should just stay called Assistant Admins.

Although I know that this might not count for much.

I don't think that's a necessary change at all. I don't know how a reference to Rome applies to a pokemon forum. I suppose it might sound cooler, but I personally think it would be best to just leave it as is.

Agreed with this and to Razor Leaf. It'll get members confused if we change it to Praetors. Even I don't know what it means but Assistant admins is much easier to figure out the meaning of it.

It sounds better imo, but I'd rather them keep it Asist. Admins. It's much easier for newer members to comprehend it and it's just how it has been done since the beginning. Original is better :D

Praetors sounds kind of silly and on top of that it doesn't really describe the position that the AAs hold.

A forum was a social gathering place in ancient Rome, where people talked or even debated, so I'm guessing that's where the term Praetor originated from.

Sounds like a start for next years April Fools. Make it an actual Forum - from ancient Rome/Greece!

I like the idea, but I am against it for one reason only: Not many know what a "praetor" really is.

I had to google it to find out, and I like how the definition is really what an Assistant Admin does. I also like how it gives more uniqueness to the title of Assistant Admin, but since most would just be like, "What?" I am against it.

I think they originally decided not to keep it due to people being unable to spell the name rank, yet Praetor is still officially referenced somewhere, afaik. :D

It'd be nice if our generation got to see it back, though. Just unlikely! :(

I love the word and was sad to see it go when we originally switched it but... nobody could spell Praetor and no one really knew what it was unless they were history nerds or played FFX-2. So I probably wouldn't support bringing it back. xD

I quite like the word and the uniqueness that it has, but I suppose... considering the amount of people that I'm sure would not be able to spell it, it may not be the best option.

But then again, how many times does anyone say "Assistant Admin"? It's not very much, I don't think. The amount of times someone would say "Praetor" is about the same, and most who would say it would check their spelling.
    I would think, anyway.

I think Praetor sounds cool, yes, but the fact remains that it just sounds a little pretentious and more than a little silly to apply to a mostly-serious forum.

Oh, and also nobody knows what it means. I'm a history nerd and I also played FFX-2 though, so I did.

To be honest, it sounds like a bit of a pretentious word. I'd never heard of it before this... I think Assistant Admin is clearer and describes the position better.

Yeah, I'd have to support this line of thought.

If I didn't know better, I'd have no idea what a Praetor is. That's with almost 5 years here. What on earth is a new member supposed to think when they're looking for help? I don't mean to come across as abrupt, but it's just a pretty cut-and-dry no from me. :/

This is stupid. 1. If they want their name changed, do it. 2. Discussing it in the VIP forum is like solely letting the senate choose the president. Which leads to 3. If you really think this was a thread worthy question, and that people should post their opinion on wether or wether not to change it then post it on one of the main forum boards..

    SN out.
