Rage Against The Machine vs Gorillaz

Spoiler:

Ok, my votes are...

1. I have had more experience with Arctic Monkeys, so giving this one to them. Plus bonus points for that one being the first song I ever heard from them. I was also only 14 at the time, and I know that Alex Turner is a god of a frontman.

2. Don't like either, and Gwen Stefani going mainstream pop for her solo stuff tarnished her image for me, so handing this one to U2.

3. I love Regina's voice better, so voting her. Gaga was alright at first but she fizzled out a lot for me, along with me not heavily approving her fashion sense.

4. I'm not much of a fan of either these acts either, but since my distaste in mainstream pop is a factor in my votes here, I don't like Justin Timberlake as much so Linkin Park wins this one.

5. Radiohead, no contest. That one is actually one I grew to love with each listen, and with a new album coming out in June it's a great time to listen to some old-school Radiohead as part of my hype mode.

6. They're alright, and while I don't like how terrible Coldplay's music has become in recent years, The Scientist is one of my faves from when they used to be good. So yeah, Coldplay wins here.

7. I've heard of Three Days Grace, but Eminem wins due to me having more familiarity with his music. Still, there are some Eminem songs I don't like but this one I can take.

8. RATM against Gorillaz... so hard to choose. But I like Gorillaz better, and with a new Gorillaz album due later this year I figured it would make sense that I vote Gorillaz.

I'm assuming I still get to vote xD

1. Arctic Monkeys - This was pretty easy for me. The lyrics weren't quite as well written but the actual vocal and instrumental performances were much better.

2. U2 - I'm not hugely familiar with either's body of work, but don't dislike either also. U2 does get the win here though, I think the performance was slightly better and I really enjoyed the composition and lyrics.

3. Regina Spektor - Being honest, I think Regina Spektor is so overrated in certain circles that it hurts. I also think that Gaga wastes her talent on a lot of songs. Bad Romance is one of those songs. It's boring, generic pop trash that showcases none of her good points or creativity. So Regina gets this one not because I liked the song, but because I really hated the Gaga one.

4. Linkin Park - I won't pretend that all of Timberlake's songs are bad, some of them are actually pretty good. He's got nothing on the talents of Linkin Park though. Also, they were my pick in the first place lol.

5. A Fine Frenzy - This one was really close, but there was something just really genuine and pretty about A Fine Frenzy's song that made me like it that little bit more.

6. Coldplay - This was easy, I can't stand M.I.A.

7. Three Days Grace - This one was honestly totally dependent on the song chosen for either artist since I really like both. Had to give this one to Three Days though since it's one of my favourites of their songs whilst I only like The Real Slim Shady somewhat in comparison.

8. Gorrilaz - This was another one that was going to depend on song. Stylo just happens to be my favourite Gorrilaz song though, so bad luck for RATM.

i'll make this quick ^^

  • Arctic Monkeys
  • No Doubt
  • Lady Gaga
  • Justin Timberlake
  • Radiohead
  • Coldplay
  • Eminem
  • Rage Against The Machine

- Streetlight Manifesto - never heard of them and tbh i didn't care for the song at first but as the song advanced it had reel big fish type vibes so this def gets my vote.
- No Doubt - definitely not a favorite from them but I like Gwen.
- Regina Spektor - I found this song super dainty and refreshing. I would've voted GaGa but Bad Romance was my anthem in middle school and I try not to think about middle school too often.
- Justin Timberlake - I love Justin with all my heart.
- A Fine Frenzy - She sings with the same daintiness as Regina so she'll get my vote on this one. I love Radiohead but just not that song.
- Coldplay - this song is just classic coldplay
- Eminem - I'm just getting lazy on these reasons tbh
- Gorillaz - I like

1. Arctic Monkeys

2. No Doubt - Normally I'd favor U2, but this particular song didn't really move me so I guess this is a case of No Doubt meeting expectations and U2 falling below expectations for me.

3. Regina Spektor - She was my pick and I'll probably vote for her each time, but in this case it's mostly because I don't care for Bad Romance at all.

4. Justin Timberlake - Isn't Linkin Park supposed to have more edge? I dunno, I feel like this is another meets-expectations vs. doesn't-meet-expectations decision for me.

5. A Fine Frenzy

6. Coldplay - Overplayed song for me, but I still like it.

7. Eminem - Someone once broke this song down for me and gave a very long and detailed analysis of all its merits so even though it's not my kind of music I can appreciate at least this song.

8. Rage Against The Machine

It's just struck me that there's no Fall Out Boy, P!ATD or The Killers. The noughties were so good to us ;_;

1. Streetlight Manifesto - When the song started I was pretty underwhelmed but it just kept getting better and I didn't want it to end. Loving the vibes.

2. No Doubt - I don't think either of the choices were that great and neither really reflected how good either of the artists can be. That said, U2's song just didn't leave an impression on me at all so No Doubt wins by their song being...less dull. Sorry.

3. Lady Gaga - Regina's song is actually quite good as well (I've never heard of her so this was something cool to listen to). However Bad Romance is one of my favourite Gaga songs and has a lot of memories attached to it for me personally so :P

4. Justin Timberlake - I actually had no idea this song was by Linkin Park, I've always associated them with more edgy and 'intense' music I guess haha. That said, I love this song by JT, it's a classic.

5. A Fine Frenzy - I love me some Radiohead but wow A Fine Frenzy's song is beautiful. I love her voice in this song.

6. Coldplay - One of my favourite Coldplay songs which is why I chose it in the first place.

7. Eminem - Honestly not too fond of either of these songs but I prefer Eminem's one in this case.

8. Gorillaz - I've actually never listened to anything by RATM but this song wasn't really what I'm into. Preferred Stylo.

yay

This was way tougher than I thought it would be. xD I feel like some of them were pulled down by the song choice. :o

1. Arctic Monkeys; for having a much better song. Besides, I've known them longer, and enjoyed their music more in general.

2. U2; while it isn't their best, it was better, and was so from the start, than the other one.

3. Regina Spektor
; even though I love some Gaga songs, more than most Regina Spektor songs, Bad Romance is pretty bad.

4. Linkin Park; I've never been a big fan of Timberlake and it helps that Linkin Park's song was much better. xD

5. A Fine Frenzy
; as much as it pains me, Radiohead's song just wasn't anywhere nearly as good as A Fine Frenzy's. I shall now proceed to look for more songs by her. xD

6. Coldplay
; with one of my favourite songs by one of my favourite bands, how can I not give this to them? xP

7. Eminem
; Eminem is probably the only rapper whose songs I actively seek out.

8. Gorillaz
; I love them, and the song had me hooked from the start!

Woot! :P

Wow ok TIL people really don't like one of my most favourite Radiohead songs at all lol ;c

1. Arctic Monkeys - I've liked them for a while and that's one of their better songs. Have a feeling they might just go and win the whole thing

2. U2 - it isn't one of their best but I preferred it over the other track

3. Regina Spektor - like I'm gonna choose Bad Romance hahahah

4. Justin Timberlake - Linkin Park nearly pulled me with that nostalgia... but that JT track is a 00s pop classic man come on

5. Radiohead - gotta vote for ma boissss though it looks like we're going out early.. I knew I should have chosen a song from In Rainbows dammit

6. M.I.A - I didn't really like either, but I slightly disliked M.I.A less

7. Eminem - not a contest

8. Gorrillaz - was a toughie, but Gorrillaz edged it simply due to track choice

I need to definitely get my votes in, but with school that's been too much. I'll try getting them in tomorrow though or on Wednesday!

No rush. If you need an extra day or two because of school past the deadline, just let me know and I can extend it till you get your vote in (:

I'll be getting in my votes this evening for sure, just need to finish up at the Robotics lab and I'll be good to go.

Sweet! Once you send in your submission then the next round will start!

Question for everyone else: would you like to have a losers round as well? So we can have an actual ranking of all of our band submissions?
