Should the games have voice acting?

Does Pokemon needs voice acting?

I heard the newer pokemon games need voice acting and that the new games are bad without them? And is the Nintendo switch is capable of voice acting in Pokemon games?

It absolutely does, alot of the heartwarming parts of scarlet/violet come off really awkward without it.doubly so because the characters mouthes move but they have no voice, it just looks weird. It really seems like pokemon just dont want to for mainline games specifically, because they did voices for new pokemon snaps cutscenes and they are pretty good

Merged your thread with the existing one. Began when Sword/Shield was the main game. Provides some interesting perspectives of that time, as well as still being relevant.

Separates this from the previous post to address the topic, rather than moderation/notification.

Does not particularly mind either way. Really depends on how the voice actors perform and how often lines are repeated. Would be nice to hear actual pronunciations in game. Tends to remember the few spoken lines in spinoffs, for what it is worth. Never felt robbed of an experience by being without it, however.

Edit: Wants voice acting for the Pokemon more than the humans, actually. Needs to be used sparingly, though. Means not hearing four "Hoppip"s every time a group of four spawns in.

Managed voice acting in Pokemon games on the N64.

Uhhhh... that's a no from me.

Masters already has voice acting and it's pretty damn grating sometimes, which is why I don't play it. Whether a character's voice is suitable for them or not also depends heavily on the listener, and yet the aforementioned game has made some objectively terrible decisions - like giving Koga a fake "Japanese" accent in the English version. Now imagine this situation in a main series game. Yeah, I'm not buying the games lately, but if it can't be turned off like the majority of cutscenes in Sw/Sh and S/V, that could be a strong reason for me to quit the main series for good.

The only way I would allow voice acting in the main series is that a director and cast with backgrounds in both voice acting and real-life acting were hired. I get the feeling that the dialogue would sound a bit more realistic and less ear-splitting as a result, and therefore steer clear of some of the most common problems with voice acting in video games. Alas, that would be too costly, so I don't see it happening. I do agree with the complaints about singing scenes like Piers's or Ryme's being voiceless, but I would rather keep imagining what kind of voice they would have in my head than have to sit through terrible singing knowing it could be so much better.

Yes. It's actually somewhat embarrassing that the only voicework in core-series Pokémon games amounts to Pikachu and Eevee cries (until P:LA axed them), a few vocal samples, and Ed Sheeran. The narrative setpieces in newer Pokémon games could've benefitted greatly from voice acting (Piers's awkward solo, Volo's call to Giratina, the banter between your friends as you descend Area Zero), and I think that voice acting could give those cutscenes the gravitas they deserve.

Pokémon desperately needs voice acting in my opinion, especially considering that the cutscenes are particularly long nowadays. To be honest, I always found it overbearing to sit through those long cutscenes, but if the characters were actually talking with real voices, I probably would love it. The lack of voice acting wasn't much of an issue in the old days such as Generation I and II where a story barely existed and very minimal cutscenes other than Rival and Team Rocket encounters. Pokémon Legends: Arceus would have been much better if it had voice acting, as I feel it was the Pokémon game that needed it the most. Voice acting would bring so much life to the game. The Nintendo Switch is definitely powerful enough to make it happen as well, especially considering that NPCs don't say much anyway. I always imagine what certain characters in Pokémon would sound like if they talked, and I definitely wouldn't mind hearing the protagonist uttering a few words as well.
