Soooo... the game that we thought that have died resurfaced, with some of the game play, brought to us by Nintendo's Direct video feed!

So the quest here is, what are your initial thoughts on the trailer? What do you hope to see in the future? Is there any thing that you liked, or disliked upon watching this game from this trailer?

    Feel free to share!

Am really looking forward to this, in fact I bought SMT IV just to get into the SMT games .
However it doesn't seem as dark as SMT IV and looks quite happy and fun. I think they will reveal more with a different trailer though.

I'm not really seeing the Fire Emblem in it tbh. There's a pegasus and a character who looks a liiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiittle bit like Tiki but that was all I saw in the trailer. Suppose that they're using the term crossover a bit loosely here. But it's also just one trailer, so.....

...It's interesting, to say the least.

I really like both series so I'll be interesting to see what they make in the end.

Am hoping the next trailer will be Fire Emblem orientated.

I get a more persona x fire emblem vibe as well. Shin megami tend to be more dark IMO. Too soon to tell but it is looking great it is a shame it's WiiU only cause I don't have one. It looks like it could be played on a PSVita tbh. Man if this hypes me anymore il be buying a WiiU :/

I think it would have been better off as a new IP or a Persona game with Fire Emblem cameos/eastereggs judging from that trailer.
That would ruin the purpose of this game, which is a crossover of SMT and FE. You don't see any Mystery Dungeons cameos/easter eggs in the Pokémon Mystery Dungeons series.

I'm a bit hesitant on buying this game, because ATLUS RPGs are infamous for being Dark Souls-level difficult. With Nintendo's involvement, would they make it accessible to newcomers?

Atlus has been easing up on the difficulties on their games in the recent years. A big example of this is that SMTIV significantly easier than Nocturne was. Etrian Odyssey is being much more welcoming to newcomers. A lot of the fame of "hard" Atlus game, was primarily aimed at their PS2 games and such.

So, I wouldn't be too worried about the difficulty being ludicrous. I'd probably expect a game of mild difficulty; I'd even bet there is going to be varying levels of difficulty as well.

    Wohoah, old thread, but relevant.

They showed a lot of the game at E3, and I'm just going to say it: this is Persona. It's Persona. It's not exactly Persona, and this is disregarding all the pre-info "this looks a lot like Persona comments". The producer said something along the lines of "It's not so much a crossover as it is a whole new experience", and I think that's true. It's Fire Emblem + Shin Megami Tensei + Modern, non-destroyed Japan. But, if you look at what the story is and the themes involved, it's very reminiscent of the Persona franchise. Or...let me put this another way.

This is Shin Megami Tensei at its very core with a Fire Emblem casing. Now, in terms of the themes, ideas, and overall atmosphere, it's probably be better to describe that as The World Ends With You with a brighter aesthetic. But not that. Kinda. Both really.

Point is, I would behoove you all not to look at this as FE X SMT but rather to look at it as its own thing and not compare it to those two titles, as the more I see of it the more I get the intention that that's what it wants to be, possibly the start of a new franchise. This is something all its own, so take it only for what it is and not as a crossover or any other title by Atlus or Intelligent Games.

I am not looking forward to this. The only thing I see that looks related to Fire Emblem is Chrom and Tsubasa Oribe's resemblance to Aqua/Azura from Fire Emblem Fates.

I can't help but find myself being interested in this game despite the j-pop and dance performances putting me off every time I see them. I love the idea of making a game that takes ideas from each series and makes a new experience out of it, I far prefer it to an actual FE x SMT since I don't particularly care about either franchise as a whole.

Battle system looks like fun, I like edgy Chrom and power ranger Cain, character designs are a little strange at times but I find it hard for that to sway me. I'm on the fence but I'm keeping my eye on it for more information.

Pretty much why I say you look at it as a new game rather than a crossover. It's not gonna do you any favors to think otherwise, and the creators don't want it to be seen that way.

As I said about whether anime styled video games are ruining the industry, I fear this game will flop in the west because of how it's heavily influenced by modern anime, which what turn most westerners off from watching anime entirely, despite the Wii U needing some JRPGs in its library to appeal to that demographic.

I dunno if I'd say it's largely influenced by anime, exactly.

SMT x Fire Emblem takes place in Shibuya, which a the type of place where something like this would happen. It's a world of idols, business, and what-have-you, but this game doesn't really seem to be influenced by anime so much as taking its own spin on prevalent real world concepts.

Because really, it's no more influenced by modern anime than the current Fire Emblems or arguable SMT as it is now (especially if you factor in the Devil Survivor games). It's just bright, poppy, and eccentric, perpetuating these ideas seen in the real world and giving them their own Persona unique spin. Which is to say, regardless, this game is actually more niche than the crossover it seemed to be, but it appeals to very strange groups of people. Those that like it aren't quite who you'd expect, and those that don't aren't as well, and I think that's a great tribute to Genei Ibun Roku's hard to describe nature.

Okay, I'm being weird, but I'm starting to like the crossover now. It's actually very interesting watching the trailer 3 times to observe everything in it. :P

Yeah, I know. It's probably just because the song is very catchy. And probably because I'm trying to translate what Tsubasa says at the end of the video.
