Have you ever had anyone mistake you for someone else/get your name wrong consistently? Have you ever mistaken somebody for someone else?

The other day I was walking to a friends house, and someone in the distance obviously thought I was someone they knew, and called "Hi mate, you alright?". I have terrible eyesight so I assumed it was someone I knew as well and called "Hey man", but as we got closer to one another I realised I had no idea who he was, and then he said "Oh wait, I thought you were someone else". Awkwardness ensued.

Usually this kind of thing develops into a hilariously awkward scenario like mine, so tell us your stories!

Well, in school, people kept calling me "Will" or "William" after one of my friends because everyone thought we looked alike; we didn't. Some even thought we were brothers. Another time in advisory, I walked into advisory class a bit late and this one girl I occasionally talked to sophomore year said "Hi Nick" to me, but I kind of ignored her, not thinking she was talking to me. Then I think she said something like, "Oh okay...?" because I ignored her and someone else told her my name was Michael. She was like "Oh! I'm sorry!" I just kind of laughed and said it was okay.

I've been called Cody by so many people it's not even funny. I don't know why either.

Where I work is next to a gas station, so I go in there all the time to get snacks. One of the ladies behind the counter always calls me Adrian, then apologises, insisting I remind her of somebody she knows named Adrian.

I feel it's worthy to note that whenever I go in there, I'm always wearing a nametag that clearly says "Andrew" :P

I don't get mistake for a person in particular, often, but I do get mistaken for a worker at different places. Never understood why.

I have mistaken other people. Here's one time I did, it's pretty funny. Well, two friends and I were in the mosque and we were bored. One of them went to do something, so my other friend and I decided to pull a prank on him. We found some ice and planned to put it down the back of his shirt. We thought we found him, facing away from us, and I was the one who put the ice down his shirt. Problem was, it wasn't him. The dude just stared at us like we were insane, and mentally I was like "Oh ****". But then he smiled, and I said I was sorry and all was well. My friend got a kick out of how our prank backfired, though. >>

Although no one mistakes me for someone or calls me by the wrong name, some people do spell my name incorrectly.

My irl name is Nichole, but some people think it's "Nicole".

I think I remember someone calling me "Nicki" or "Nikolai" and I do feel embarrassed.

I don't think I've ever been confused for somebody else, but for as long as I can remember (especially throughout school), there would always be one teacher or kid that would call me Brandon the whole year instead of Brendan. It got to the point in about grade 4 or 5 where I realized that people were going to keep making that mistake, so I just stopped correcting them. It doesn't really bother me too much any more, considering both of the names do sound and look pretty similar.

People get my name wrong all the time. It drives me crazy because they don't even try to spell it right, Ive never really be confused for another person, but people still say my name wrong anyway.

At school? Naw... Kevin's a simple name. And I don't look like anyone else; I'm that original.

At home, though, my dad and his side of the family mistakes me sometimes for my little brother, since our names start with the same sound, and vise versa. Not by looks though.

One time I was walking downtown wearing this new coat I got and from behind you could only see the coat and my hair. Some guy was calling "Hey, Sherry! Sherry!" and obviously that isn't me so I ignore him, but then I feel someone come up behind me and pat me on the butt. I turn around and give this guy the deadliest death stare I can and he looks horrified and doesn't say anything, not even sorry. I walk away quickly because I'm terribly embarrassed and I know if that guy tried to say anything or even apologize I would have smacked him. Or maybe cried, I dunno. There were quite a few people around and like I said, I was really embarrassed.

That..must have suck. YOU SHOULD HAVE SMACKED THE HELL OUT OF HIM!

Okay, so my name is Chace and my brother's name is Cody. For some reason, my parents and all my relatives tend to mix up our names. We look nothing alike and we don't really spend that much time together so I don't get the confusion. I get frustrated when they call me Cody, especially when my mom does that and if I didn't respond to CODY, she screams at me saying, "why didn't you answer me Cody?". I am Chace for god's sake.
