Special Demo Version

With Sun/Moon and ORAS both getting demo versions prior to their release, there is a definite precedent for US/UM to receive one as well. In the past, demos have been short scenarios with data that can be transferred over into the main titles, with exclusive Pokemon such as Ash-Greninja, making them a worthwhile download for those interested in purchasing the full titles.

So, let's chat. Would you like to see a demo for US/UM? What sort of things do you imagine it would have you doing, and what sort of transferrable Pokemon/items would you like it to have? Is a US/UM demo something you would even be interested in trying, and if you're not sure about whether or not you want to buy the games, would a good demo change your mind?

I am pretty sure that a demo will be expected for US/UM, since we got ones for S/M and both 6th Gen games. I never tried the other demos so I'm not sure if it will be the same for me here, since I usually prefer waiting for the full content anyway.

Well they aren't similar situations really. Both times the demo has been done, it had a purpose. In ORAS, it was special soley due to the fact that it was the first of its kind for the series(if you exclude in-store demos they had back in the day). And for Sun and Moon, it was to give people a taste of the new engine, region, mechanics, etc.

There won't really be anything to show off here. It would be akin to making a demo for BW2, everyone would already know what to expect.

All the more reason to have a demo, one could argue - to perhaps sway those who are unsure whether or not they want to play through Alola again into buying the full games. Providing a taster experience of games is never a bad thing. There is also the possibility of a small prequel story scenario; if GF are going to take a narrative-focused approach to Pokemon going forward, this wouldn't be too unusual.

I'd like a Demo but I wouldn't be disappointed if we didn't get one. I just hope that we don't get a datamine leak on the level of the disaster that was the Sun & Moon demo. Hopefully they've learnt from their mistakes though.

Speaking of...I actually wonder if we won't get a demo this time around because of that. I mean, Nintendo decided to punish the UK by delaying ORAS' release after the XY debacle - at least according to some sources; I'm not sure I buy it but then there is no explanation for why we were literally the only country to get a delayed release - so it wouldn't surprise me if they didn't risk a demo to avoid spoilers like that...

Dataminers when they hear there will be an Ultra Sun & Ultra Moon demo.

Yeah I expect we'll get a demo, it'll probably be a similar length to the one we got in Sun and Moon. As for what we end up doing, we'll probably get given a starter or an Alolan Pokemon and will get to explore a new area hopefully.

No more demos please. They get datamined every time. Not to mention demos are pointless.

I have a hunch that USUM's demo (if it does have a demo) will revolve around Marshadow and it's Z-Move.

It'll introduce Marshadow properly to the players and it's Z-Move. Kinda how like Ash-Greninja went down for the SM's demo.

I don't think so. They would never put a mythical pokemon in a demo. Maybe a special pikachu but definitely not marshadow.

This is a nice idea! Perhaps the type of hat Pikachu has on could depend upon your region, or maybe it'd be randomly generated? Given that the hat Pikachu was programmed into Sun/Moon too it'd be transferrable into that...would be nice, given that ORAS got the cosplay Pikachu, etc.

I might consider getting the demo. As long as they scrub the data so datamining is useless.

Datamining will be the sticking point as to whether or not we get a demo, I think...they can't be stupid enough to make the same mistake again. I think they just wouldn't make a demo if they couldn't scrub the data...or perhaps they'd make it available a week or less before release to minimise the damage the leaks could do.

I still think that a demo is more likely than not, though. It can be nothing but a beneficial thing to release one from a business standpoint...which is the only perspective they're going to care about. Taster = increased excitement levels and increased awareness/exposure to the game = more people buying said game = more money.

Honestly, I wouldn't mind not getting a demo, seeing how we kind of don't deserve one after datamining it so badly. If we do get one, I dearly hope that Nintendo learned their lesson.

I don't know what they could show off in it though. I think the largest differences between S/M and US/UM are going to just be graphics and plot, in which the former is limited and the latter cannot be revealed at all.

There will definitely be a demo... We might get the Eternal Flower Floette there...
Doubt it. That ship has sailed a long time ago. Prediction when demo gets released - it gets datamined again and we get leaks before the game release.

The demo would be so pointless... I mean we got Trash Greninja with the last one, I just don't foresee there being one. All the demos do is pretty much get datamined and the games get ruined for those who avoided the news.

The XY demo was never added to the e-shop, though. Just OrAs'.
