For the first four generations, Nintendo made games for their main console at the time (the N64, the Game Cube and the Wii) that allowed the user to have battles in 3D with AIs and with friends.
Plus, some other things like minigames, an emulator for RBY with 2x to 4x speed-up, and in the case of Colosseum, a full blown Story Mode.
Nowadays, with the advent of Wi-Fi, the shift to 3D and in the case of Gen VIII (and possibly IX) the games already being in the main console, it looks like this a bit of a dead spinoff.
Until you remember that competitive battles with AIs, possibly with wacky rules and restrictions is exactly what the Battle Frontier does, and it's beloved by many fans.
So, here's my question: would you rather have another Stadium like game in which you can send Pokémon via Pokémon Home, have a "Battle Frontier" DLC, or neither?
