Supporter Randbats Tournament - Planning!

Hey guys! Your resident Fan Club moderator Megan here! A few months ago I discussed about a possible random Battle tournament for us supporters in the DCC. Now that I got time in order to organize/plan this + we have every tier accessing the VIP forum, it makes sense now that this section is due for an event like this. The last randbat tournament we had was back in...2012 iirc? And it was pretty successful.

HOWEVER, there's going to be a sliiiiight twist on this randbat tourney. I need YOUR help in deciding on the theme!

For those of you who are new to this, you might be asking...what aaaaaare you talking about, Megan? That's okay! I was on the same boat as you before. :P Randbat = random battle. Which means once you start a battle, you are given six random Pokemon to battle with, and you will have to press your luck! All battles take place in PokeCommunity's very own Battle Server. You are not required to have battling experience, all skill levels are welcome!

Here are some ideas I have proposed for our randbat theme. However, if you guys decide against these and just want to stick with the default (meaning you get ANY 718 Pokemon), then that's fine as well.

• Easter/Spring theme (since Easter is coming soon~)
• Generation theme (choose one generation and battles will be based on Pokemon from the generation we chose i.e. Hoenn Pokemon only)
• Community (Pokemon based on PC members. i.e. mine is Meganium. see this thread here.)
• Tier-Based (random battles based on battle server's tiers i.e. Overused, Underused, etc)

Soon, I'll go ahead and add a poll in the thread. I also accept any other theme ideas you all may have, and I'll go ahead and add them onto this post!

An "under-evolved" set would be pretty cool (i.e. the first pokemon in an evolution cycle). It would be similar to the Pika Cup from Pokemon Stadium, if that helps people better understand what I'm saying.

We have a Little Cup tier on Showdown, so that kinda counts as Tier-based. However, from personal experience, battling with unevolved/baby Pokemon is a lot more fun than regular final-evolved Pokemon. :D

If you get a Pokemon with Belly Drum and Extremespeed, GAME FREAKIN' OVER.

As for ideas, i really like both the Spring/Easter and the Generation theme (:
If i had to pick a Gen, i would go with either 3 or 5!

You could perhaps make two divisions. One for Little Cup-eligible pokémon and one for OU-eligible pokémon. That way, people can choose what battle style they'd prefer, and we can avoid unfair things like the randomizer giving you [Diglett/Sunkern/Dratini] and your opponent [Scizor/Garchomp/Azumarill]. XD

Also, what kind of movesets would the random pokémon have? Will they be random, or at least competitively built? XD

Assuming it goes by the same mechanics as I've seen before on the Smogon server, then the movesets are pretty competitively based. They're not going to be completely random.

As for the theme, I have no preference, I'd be fine with any of them tbh.

I'm always down for a Little Cup Tournament. I'd be fine with Generational too. As far as which generations...I'm good for anything but 5, solely because of my lack of knowledge on that particular generation.

Having the randomizer give a newer member a pokémon nicknamed after the veteran member that it represents would be a great way to encourage looking people up and socializing with them. XD

They will be competitive-built based on Smogon's standards. There will be a rare chance that you will have one Pokemon that will have no attacking moves and all-status moves, which is a downer. I promise you that those will be a minimum. :P

Really glad people are showing interest, btw! I'm excited to put this forward. Once I get a few more replies, we can go ahead and vote on the theme!

I like the community concept as well, having a Pokemon based on the member like how in Megan's case, she has Meganium. I also won't mind two divisions, Little Cup and OU, and as Megan said I'm glad that those Pokemon in randbats with an all-non-attacking moveset will be at a minimum because I often struggled if I was left with one of those as my final Pokemon.

Generation-based teams would work too. It would give you some new experience with different generation Pokemon, even ones you never liked at first.

I'm in. Also, I like the Community Random battle idea. We also totally need to nickname the pokémon after the members.

Any kind of battle is fine with me, though.

I've added a poll for everyone to vote on! I added a choice for each Pokemon generation because then we'd have to eventually decide on WHAT generation should the category wins for choice of theme. Overused tier and Little Cup/Unevolved Pokemon tier are also in their separate choices as well.

I see peeps are interested in the Community idea, I'll go see if I can revive that thread (it died last month) so that way people that haven't added their preferred Pokemon can be included :)

Should the community theme win for the randbats tourney, it's probably the best to choose your own Pokemon right now and I'll start building up a list to forward to Wolf. If you already have a Pokemon listed on this thread and want to change it, let me know!~ Don't revive it, by the way...it's been dead for over a month.

Because the thread is dead, if there's a pokemon on that list that's already been picked on that old list but you want to choose that one, are you able to?

You can still take it even if someone else is occupying it. More than one person can have the same Pokemon. However...there is a rare chance that the same Pokemon will appear more than once in your random team. (hasn't happened yet though iirc!)
