So as the games age, and we go through countless generations of gaming, there are those consoles, which should be hailed above all others, because either they've made some sort of impact for what we see today, or are just plain awesome in every aspect.

What console do you think should be praised above all others? Why?

To be honest, I'd have to say the Nintendo 64 should be placed upon my "golden pillow" and should be praised above all others. The Nintendo 64 had brang us loads of games, such as Super Mario 64, Goldeneye, Perfect Dark, and many others, which have helped define the games we play now. Goldeneye and Perfect Dark were the first really good FPS games, and have set a standard as to what a good shooter should be. Games like Spuer Mario 64 and Banjo Kazooie have really shown us what a good platformer should be, along with Donkey Kong 64 as well.

    Super Nintendo Entertainment System

Uuummmmm there are so many awesome games on it how can I not pick it?

Super Mario World, Super Mario Allstars, Yoshi's Island, Super Mario Kart, Super Mario RPG, Super Metroid, Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past, Megaman X

My N64 is red, sexy, and has some of the best games ever that I still need to collect most of. And...I totally don't have a golden pillow that it's literally sitting on. -whistles-

The Dreamcast deserves to be more praised above my other consoles because of how unique it is and it's great library of games.

There are several consoles that I'd love to place on the golden pillow, but quite frankly, I choose the SNES. I really enjoyed about 90% of the games there, including all of the Super Mario games.

I don't think I could choose as it would constantly change as new ones came out.

I don't seem to think old consoles are the best because of nostalgia unlike most other things.

For consoles, maybe, but there were really FPS games on the PC before those two. You have to factor in PC gaming when considering video game history.

Which leads me to my answer: The PC should be hailed as the greatest gaming platform of all time, since the vast majority of genres in existence today got their starts on the PC platform. It is also the platform that pioneered online multiplayer.

As for consoles themselves, there isn't really one truly deserving to be hailed above all others, since each of the successful ones incorporates all of the following elements: accessibility, good games (a factor in the Wii starting to lose steam), good marketing, and relatively cheap pricing (a factor in the death of many systems and a reason why the PS3 got off to such a slow start in the current generation).

I'm going to agree with you and say the 64. I don't agree with your opinion about the FPS though, Doom was a masterpiece. The N64 was the first console I really played, and some of the games help define who I am to this day.

PS2 for its quality, supremacy in its time, and so on and so forth

I think it is a tough one to single out one console since many individual consoles that have brought a new and/or improvement to the table. I have/do own a lot of the consoles from when I was growing up and a little earlier too.

I can only single it down to 2 individual consoles, the Atari 2600 and the NES. The Atari 2600 pretty much started the gaming craze, but was also the reason that it crashed. If you didn't know, the Atari 2600 was released in 1977 but wasn't really made use of till 1979 when the industry really kicked off. However, because the industry exploded, the quality control for Atari was shocking. The death of the gaming industry in 1983 was due to the release of E.T for the 2600. It was so bad, and I really mean so bad, that it killed the industry.
Then comes in the NES. The NES was released a few years after the Video Game industry crash in 1985. From here on, this console was home to some of the greatest gaming characters that we still know to this day. One of the things that made this console so effective and popular, was the Golden Seal of Approval. All this was, was to prove that the games consumers bought were real games and not knock-offs. This allowed the industry to start to rebuild and start its journey to what it is today; we owe the whole industry to these two consoles in my opinion.

I think the original Xbox and the PS's deserve some part in all this. While the N64 made 3D these consoles made FPS what they are. Without them we wouldn't have our hardcore shooters. These put the core in hardcore. Without these would we have CoD or Halo?

These systems also started using disks first (I know the PS did) on consoles. They also greatly improved on graphics.

Pretty sure CPU has the disc thing first. not PS. PC is also a game console.
also didnt Dreamcast have it before PS. I dont remember. and Halo? psh, Halo isnt that good of a game. It's overrated. and CoD, meh.

I could live without Halo and CoD, others can't cause its too addicting to them, even tho it isnt that good of a game. IMO.

also I think N64, or PS2 should since they are my consoles of my generations, My favorite consoles too <3

What console do you think should be praised above all others? Why?: Either the Nintendo DS or the PS3. The DS has good games like Pokemon, while the PS3 has impressive graphics. I just don't know which one to choose.

You're thinking of the Sega Mega Drive for the Genesis and of the Sega Saturn console, but, yes, those were before the PS. Though PC was indeed first, since you have to have a PC with a CD drive to put games onto CDs for a standalone console, and I have seen a few games from 1994 for PC on CDs.

If they built Playstation Portables to last, I'd go for them here. As it stands I find they're too fragile to truly stand up as a portable device. I like it because along with being a console with games of good quality (and I'm being subjective there, I know), it works as an MP3-player and USB memory stick and did so in a day well before other devices did (so far as I know), though I never really cared for the video function. As I said though, too fragile to be raised above all else.
Unfortunately nothing else comes to mind as venerable; I wasn't gaming long before the original Playstation was around.

Call of Duty was a PC shooter, originally; and without the Xbox, Halo probably would've been released on the PC too (which it later was anyway).
That said however, Medal of Honor led to Call of Duty's conception, and that was indeed on the PS1.

It might have been released on PC, but it would be a game like TF2. Unless you're a hardcore gamer you don't know what TF2 is. xBox made Cod what is is. You can't deny that, most of the Cod players are on PC. -_-

SNES would have to be one of my favorite consoles of the past gaming gens

SNES had Chrono Trigger, Final Fantasy II and III (IV and VI), Super Mario World, Megaman X, Super Mario RPG, Earthbound, Super Street Fighter II Turbo, Earthworm Jim, Super Castlevania, Super Metroid, and Secret of Mana.

The first Xbox has nothing to do with CoD though
