The best rival

I kinda always liked Silver and Cheren and Bianca a little more than the other characters usually considered rivals
 
Silver is definitely my favourite. I really liked how he pushed you to become stronger, similar to Blue, but that he was a more three-dimensional character especially with his ties to Team Rocket, as well as eventually realising that his means of training Pokemon was wrong and thus eventually mellows out over the course of the game.
 
Cheren and Bianca were always fun to interact with. I feel like they are the most flashed out rivals.

And I also like Hau. He might feels annoying, because he keeps interrupting your adventure, but I like his internal struggle with who he wants to be. The final battle against him in Ultra versions are peak of modern Pokémon.
 
May and Brendan are great because they are powerful rivals keeping you on track, but also incredibly helpful because that's just their nature. I especially love how they contrast with Wally, as they are like your equal while Wally falls behind.
 
Barry is my fav, because he is funny and I don't find him annoying. Being quite a silent and introverted person irl, I had many friends like Barry lol, so it kind of resonates with an actual friend I would have, I guess. I like his design, love his battle theme and honestly, a little bit like Nemona, the fact that he's always so frenetic and energetic, justifies him wanting to battle so frequently with us. Also has a nice story going on, with the lost pride when he's defeated by Jupiter and taking revenge by helping us at the Spear Pillar and then trying to beat his dad.

On the other hand, I found Hau very annoying.
 
I like Silver and Hugh the most. I'd say Barry is my least favorite. Just an annoying character imo.
 
Barry is my favorite for personal reasons. Around the time I got into pokemon I had a best friend that resembled Barry a lot, plus he was the one who got me into pokemon. He also acted like Barry a lot too. To this day whenever I play a Sinnoh game I name Barry after him.

Other than Barry I really like both Cheren and Silver. Cheren because he reminds me of Uryu Ishida from Bleach, mainly the face and how Cheren is witty and smart like Uryu. Silver because of the lore surrounding him. When I beat Leaf Green it was around the time I got Heart Gold, and talking to the rocket scientist in the Rocket Warehouse in Five Island mentions how Giovanni has a son with red hair. I also love the detail that by the post game Silver has a Crobat and he teams up with you during the battle in Dragons' Den.
 
Silver because he has my favorite design, and also an interesting personality. I also like Hau a lot! He's a sweetheart and a super fun character.

Design-wise I'd say Serena too but it's just not enough. XY rivals were one of the least memorable for me, lol. :s
 
Silver had my favorite moments.

Robbing the professor. (immediately sets a negative tone). Pretending he wins the early battles with you. Then he gets beat and lectured by Lance and you can see his character slowly morph into a different light.
