aw what was your job??

HR, even though I don't have a degree there I somehow landed it but...I felt like my manager was impossible to please.

My family and I are moving out in August since the lease for our apartment is expiring then. Since I'm planning to live with my mom for one more year before I move out on my own, I have to focus on saving as much money as I can, and actually having a decent, stable income.

Good luck! Have you started making any applications?

Ohhh wow. I actually wanted to work in HR before, especially in a city/state job, but realized it's a little more phone/communication work than I could handle. I hate making phone calls and probably would be more nervous as an interviewer than the person I'm interviewing orz.

I'll just stick to another department. Ideally accounting/payroll would be awesome... if I had a degree in either. ;O; lols

I just want to work in an office. That'd be a perfect job, actually. I don't even care if it's a cubile, really. Office jobs generally pay more than your standard run-of-the-mill retail or food service or customer service job anyway, so...

To win points on these interviews, really stress your basic computer skills. Typically the people doing the interviews only know basic things so most of what you can do will impress them.

Yeah, got it. 99.9% of office jobs these days require some knowledge of Word/Excel/Powerpoint/literally everything Microsoft Office, so it shouldn't be too difficult.

The older your interviewer is the better. We all grew up with those programs and run cyrcles around a lot of older ppl. It looks flashy on a resume too even though it isn't a big deal. Pro tip from forum grandma!!

I need to start doing puzzles again. Nothing like a good 1,000 piece-er.

Until you lose that one piece and you go into a rage trying to find it.

That has happened before.

2011 went on vacation, condo happened to have a 1,000 piece puzzle. Put it together the last two days of our trip there. Four pieces missing.
Spoiler:

Came home, and a week or so later bought the same puzzle online from Springbok, and did it again in two days, this time with all the pieces.
Spoiler:

I kinda liked those puzzles when I was younger, but then university popped up and I lost time and patience for them

Eh, I just never have the patience for things like jigsaw puzzles.

Interestingly, my flatmate has a few jigsaws, but he always gets so far through them then gives up when it comes to the sky/sea. Makes me wonder why he bothers buying cityscape/landscape puzzles..

My grandparents love doing jigsaw puzzles; they're the standby present in case we can't think of what to get them for Christmas. I used to enjoy doing them a lot, but these days I'm likely to find some other way to unwind if I don't want to do something electronic.

I'm starting Monday, since I feel the weekend is a bad time to send applications.
The weekend is an OK time to send them in. You'll be among the first ones that potentially get a response during the week. But if you wanna relax and wait til Monday, thats fine too because they won't respond until the business week starts

Bruh I love accounting! I did well in it in college but it was just part of my administration course so I don't have a degree in it :'c

aa I wish I got a degree in it! My degree's in Communications/Design & Digital Media which I regret lol. Graphic design was my original intention but I never felt motivated enough to keep updating my portfolio, and gfx design jobs are hard to get into, even in NYC.

Yeah it's really tough field, I tried to get into a place and they never contacted me ever :/ It's sad because it's a huge passion of mine.

Just curious...could you ever do anything with Patreon related to your degree? With what you've mentioned, I feel like that could be a platform that could work for you if you garner enough traction.

I have two degrees in accounting and I got turned down several times - or outright ignored - when I contacted firms and applied for work, it's a highly competitive field and in most instances you need a professional qualification with a registered practice if you want to get anywhere...you can study for one whilst you work, but places on courses like that are highly competitive too, even if you have the qualifications (typically a 2:1 degree or equivalent) they're looking for.

That said, smaller firms generally just want experience. But they can afford to pick and choose amongst all the people who don't have qualifications and don't want to get them. xD;

Yeah that's a good idea; I've seen other artists/designers get off the ground using sites like those. But I don't know if I'd be able to make it work long term since I have my ups and downs with drawing motivation. Right now my job doesn't pay me too much, so I might consider something like that as a side thing to make extra money when I move next month because I sure as heck will need it lol. Definitely doable.

I've always wanted to draw a comic too so.. maybe I'll force myself to get off my butt and continue with that. Even if it's just for fun and doesn't get me money, at least it'd help more people find me. ♡
