I tried watching Gurren Lagann. It just seemed like a generic mech anime to me. What I saw can be summed up as this: giant robot beats up another giant robot, there's a lot of obnoxious screaming, and Yoko randomly flashes her boobs.

XD;
Yeah you're kinda right, but it does keep you interested. XD;
I hate it when they flash yoko's boobs. :<

TTGL is by far one of the best anime I've seen for a number of reasons.
And if you wanna say it was over-hyped you're wrong in my opinion. Naruto and BLEACH were over hyped, they're good shows but geez ._.

Yeah it was hyped but compared to those two, TTGL was nothing.

You think that last part would be all the reasoning one would need to watch that show XD;

*shot*

I knew someone was going to say that eventually.
XD;

Teresa does have a point. :<
Alot of people are hyped over Naruto and Bleach. :<

I got to agree that both Naruto and Bleach are hyped (and I do like Bleach). And they are hyped far too much. But I do love Bleach, so the hype on that doesn't bug me. XD

Oh, believe me when I say... I do know someone who watched (or started watching) mianly due to Yoko's boobs (not kidding). XD

Not my kind of shows :|
But the people who only get into a show because it's popular bothers me. I think the only thing I got into because of my friends was TWEWY.

I heard about it, saw the price, then didn't get it. But my friends made it seem so cool I HAD to get it, so that's the only time I've let hype get the better of me XD;

I thought it was my duty to do so. Plus I haven't been around, so yeah. And Morky here needs to be a bit perverted every now and then, it's good for the heart :P

What's sad is that hype != good :<

That's good.. I guess. XDD;

lol I think we all do. XD;

I agree. :<
I mean, why force yourself to like something just because a lot of other people like it.

I don't think they're trying to make themselves to like it, but really, if you heard that something was really really oh god so sextacularly fantastic good, then of course you'd be inclined to like it, and who's to blame you, it's how people work. It works the other way as well. I know if I think a movie is good, and then I ask someone about it and they dislike it, I almost always say, "yeah it wasn't that good >.>"

Though I guess I'm just easily swayed ^^;

I'd never get a game/watch a movie/etc. just because someone said it was good. :/ I try to form my own opinions most of the time, but sometimes if everyone around me says it's great and I don't see myself seeing it, I'll go and try it.

I think the only thing I got into that everyone was doing was Yu-Gi-Oh. What a mistake. XD

And I actually never really liked Guitar Hero, until people started ranting about it. I played it once and hated it, but now I love it. Those are the only two times I can really think of following others. XD

It's all in the details, Geoff.

First, it's not just giant robots beating each other up. When the series starts, the mecha could hardly be considered giant and are only modestly armed; Kamina's Gurren is probably no larger than an M2 Bradley and has only its limbs and its sunglasses(!) as weapons, for instance. By the time the show ends, the mecha are truly colossal and are so overwhelmingly armed that they put all other mecha (even Ideon!) to shame; the titular machine is the absolute largest seen in any anime series, and the final adversary essentially uses Ideon's self-destruct as a primary weapon.

Second, eight simple words: "Who the Hell do you think I am?!" Also, "Don't believe in yourself. Believe in me, who believes in you!" Kamina's not obnoxious; you just can't comprehend his sheer awesomeness.

Third, Yoko Ritona is just...Yoko Ritona. She can't help herself. Her customized Zastava M93 Black Arrow also helps.

I do it all the time because I love recommendations from other people. I mean, I do explore and look for things that I think I might enjoy, but I will also get a game/movie, whatever from people if they say it's good. I get swayed incredibly easily, too. XD;

Okay, yeah. XD I lied. I got into Death Note and Haruhi Suzumiya from someone and All Time Low from Teresa<3, so I guess I take recommendations more than I thought. XD;

Everyone has different tastes.
But to me, I think everyone should give GL a shot... not only because it's not hard to get into, but it's also not super long like say... Bleach that has over 170 eps and still going.

And TWEWY is an awesome game... I just wish I had more time to play.

I love that pic. XD

I don't think Yoko has a M93 Black Arrow. I think her rifle is more along the lines of the M82A1 Barrett. The look isn't right for the M93.

I take recommendations all the time. If a friend says it's good? I trust them and I'll try it out. Maybe not all the time, but why not? Also, if something is really popular and everyone loves it? I consider it kind of the same and I'll usually try it out then too. Sometimes I like it, sometimes I don't.

A lot of the anime I watch and the games I play are influenced like this. I usually don't branch out of my comfort zone (with games, anyway) unless something gets a ton of great reviews. I wouldn't have played Portal if it weren't so popular and it's definitely one of my favourite games. :x Likewise, I picked up God of War because I heard it was amazing and I couldn't stand it. Obviously the masses won't always agree with you, but it never hurts to try. Getting into something because it's popular isn't bad, per se, and honestly? The people who refuse to watch, play, or otherwise get into a game/anime/etc. just because it's popular bug me just as much as the people who get into things just to be liked for it. :/

On Gurren Lagann specifically... I really need to keep watching that. Two episodes isn't enough to form an opinion on it aside from "boooooooooobs". xD;

I have a bad habit of looking into things before I watch it or tell the person to tell me what it's about. I guess I lied a little XD;

I got into this game called Star Ocean: Until the end Of Time because one of my friends called me at like 3 am just to tell me the game was so awesome it was blowing her mind. First of all, if a game is good enough to keep THAT friend up so late then it must be amazing. Second, my bad habit kicked in and I used Google to look stuff up about it and it did sound interesting.

So I got it and it was freakin' hard >:|

...it's hard? Damnit. XD I picked up that game recently because of a friend too. Haven't played it yet because my PS2 is currently being held captive in another friend's room but... well, maybe I'll play a few different games first.

Well yeah, kind of :|

The game play is a LOT like the Tales of series, but there's this countdown thing that keeps you from hitting the enemy too much and they enemy is usually had to hit anyway. It's a fun game, but I didn't think it was worth continuing, I have up before I got to the second disk XD;

It's totally worth a try though, my friend beat it after a while and I tried playing again but I gave up again XD;

Yoko's personal rifle is probably a composite of various real-life anti-material pieces. With the way the stock is assembled, if it was an M93, Yoko would probably have difficulty working the bolt. However, the M82 has a larger magazine and generally looks bulkier. Like I said, it's most likely a composite of various anti-materiel rifles.
