LOL the Los Angeles USD network usually blocks off all the good sites. Even PC! (I use the IP Address :3)
As for proxies eh most people think they base it off the Web History, but it's mostly rerouting that lights up filters IMO. =P

Also...They really should just filter really offensive stuff not the fandom based/games 'cuz it just makes kids more computer geeks (maybe me too...) if we're forced to find ways around...

Eh just a post for the day...See ya later. ^_^

I understand the security of blocking the word bypass, but it's a bit silly to do so, considering Health & The Body (Does sex ed, but it's mostly like Greys Anatomy or House) teach a lot about surgeries and stuff, including 'bypasses'.

I know. It was terrible. There were a lot of people that had issues with it blocking based on keywords. Although, the site could contain the word "bypass." It mainly checked what was in the URL. Most search engines place your search queries into the URL, which is what triggered the blockage.

That place even at one time blocked sites such as Wikipedia and Google Maps.

I wasn't actually talking about the Web histroy (if you were talking to me, anyway). I've used IP addresses as well to bypass stuff.

They upgraded the proxy server my last year there. That one required us to login to our school account before it would let you do anything. That one actually kept a history of where we went (which is pretty much why I used my laptop). I was lucky, though, and got away with a lot of things at my school just for knowing the IT people. They even caught me using a Linux LiveCD there, but didn't do anything.

My school didn't block very much. :/ PC was always accessible when I was in HS and it continued to be so even when I slacked off during every computer class and browsed PC, using the last 10 minutes to cram all my work in. I still ended up best in my class like every year though so maybe that's why haha.

I did get my account banned once though. 8( I thought it was because I'd installed Firefox to use but it ended up just being because I'd used up too much space in my student folder.

My school blocks pretty much everything. All you can do with google is is regular search, you can't use Wikipedia, and one time I did a search on Donald Duck and all the links were blocked due to "Partial Nudity". And craziest of all, I've gotten block messages that say:

This website is blocked due to content containing the following:

Education/Learning

I'm not kidding.

Education/Learning? That was blocked? If that is blocked on a school network, what's not blocked? Sports? (Sometimes, I felt that's what mattered most at my school) What's the purpose of the Internet if you cannot learn from it? (While at school, anyway)

I believe filters just coined themselves.

My school hasn't blocked too much other than social networking and gaming sites, which is what adults expect the average teenager to go on, I guess. Don't have a problem logging into PC, but that doesn't matter 'cause I'll never log into it when I'm at school. Don't need to risk getting my reputation destroyed by a bunch of judgemental kids who'll go out of their way to degrade anyone who shows any signs of weakness.

Hopefully it'll get better if I end up in university some day.

I'm guessing that was Wikipedia?

I can't get on Facebook at school. They block the teacher computers too :O

My old high school blocked hardly anything when I was a freshman, but by the time I was a senior you couldn't get on any outside email accounts (yahoo, gmail, etc), no myspace, no facebook, no forums, no pretty much anything. The only thing that I managed to get on was like Yahoo Movies, so yeah I spent a year posting about movies and crap over there. lol

I'm guessing that was Wikipedia?

No, I was trying to get on a site that had information on Toussaint L'ouvreture.

By then, I already knew not to click on Wikipedia links.

My school computers filter everything. :/
Even Google.
Funny thing is, I tried to access PC once at school and the following came up:

"This site is blocked for the following reasons:

Online Fourm and/or Tasteless."

Yup. We are a tasteless community.

Tasteless? That's got to be the most hilarious blocked reason I've ever seen! Who cares about what the school system thinks, though? I wish they had funny messages like that at my old school. You know, it wouldn't surprise m if the people who set up that block secretly visit PC...

Wow...and I thought my school was bad. But in comparison with all these other stories, my school was down right awesome. XD

Wikipedia was allowed, Pokecommunity was allowed. I assume YouTube and FaceBook would have been allowed had they existed back then, XD. The only things that were banned was Internet messengers like MSN and Gmail, purchasing sites like eBay, and of course, porn and the like. But I thought it was terrible that I couldn't use MSN at school...if I couldn't go to PC either....;_;

Nothing was really banned from my school. Sure, they "blocked" a bunch of sights, but we just used proxies XD.

We had wikipedia, but youtube and facebook were blocked I think O.O

my highschool uses this websense thing and they blocked liked everything
it uses filters
teachers even got mad
but yea there are some proxies that work

This^

Though we got around the lack of MSN by just... downloading MSN and installing it. XD; I think by my final year, Youtube was banned and by now they've probably banned Facebook but I don't know.

I hate both, though I only have a Facebook. I just don't use it any. I remember a lot of people were complaining about MySpace being blocked at school...that's pretty much all that people did was bypass the proxy server so that they could get on it.

I used both religiously at one point, but then just decided...I never really got any use out of both of them. I still check my facebook from time to time, but not everyday. I talk with most of my friends on AIM anyway =P
