Hmm okay.

I can see the inevitability of such occuring more in movies and medias, but I wouldn't want to see it in company names.

Ah okay, I see.

Would it seem analagous (is that the right word? It's a bit late FF says it's spelt wrong though XD) though that while it may be paying homage it is conversely taking advantage of the knowledge of the original item, to its marketing advantage?
It's the same thing with any marketing campaign. The language program could be called 'Champion'. That would be taking advantage of people's knowledge that a 'champion' is a good thing, something that wins, therefore making them want to buy it. It's the same dice, no matter what the name is.

Ah, though it is two different types of nouns ;)

Proper nouns (nouns that name a person or place I think it was) and the other kind of nouns (why do I have such good convos at the worst times? perhaps regular nouns? XD)

Ironically my last name is Champion. >.>

lol, this is a boring topic. NEXT.

But yeah, life happens, it sucks that crappy companies take names that have a lot of historical significance, but it's not like there's anything anyone can do and it's bound to happen. The end.

I think the copyright on the Rosetta Stone has long since expired, so they're well within their rights to use it. =P I'm not familiar with US Copyright law, but isn't there something about 'when the original copyright holder has been dead for 70 years' or something? *saw it in Wikipedia archives on an old painting*

Well then I can only hope people would boycott it. XD >.>

*extremist*

Bah boring? And here I was not thinking about sleep. ;_;

Okay well if I were more awake, perhaps it would have been more lively...

I mean I think anyone would feel pretty drained after 3.5 hours of sleep, a coffee, a midterm exam and 6 hours of school. >.>

I thought there was something about a copyright staying into affect for 150 years or something, but can't remember... But you can't copyright the name of an artifact, it either has some historical significance giving it, its name, is named after a person, or has a title.

I'm not sure how this fits in being able to name things while not other things though.

I just heard the Rosetta Stone ad while driving back from work. XD
Even Google does that... Type anything that you want to research, and almost always, you will get wikipedia first. Not to mention that if you wanted to look up 'Morpheus', the Greek God of Dreams, you get Morpheus from the Matrix...
Speaking of the Matrix...(backpedals)

My parents can accept sex scenes when they're just a small part of the movie. Like, my parents didn't mind when I watched Matrix Reloaded.
Sex in the cave+dancing+drum music= hawt. :P *gets shot*

And as for sleeping...uni students never get enough sleep. :<

I've been sleeping in 'til about 3AM each and everyday of the holidays so far. ^__^

I have about 6 hours of sleep every day.
I sleep at 11:30 PM-12:30 AM and wake up at the fresh time of 5:50 AM.
I really need to sleep earlier ;__;

I am not a morning person. I feel dead in the mornings. :[

That's probably because Wikipedia pays Google to be up the top there.

Wikipedia is one of the main sources on the internet. It has almost everything, even if random people can edit it.

*shudders* Well at least google has google scholar, but I use my schools own scholarly search database where it has real information...

I wouldn't allow even a grade 1 class cite a wikipedia site as a source, though I realize citing might not begin until at least grade 3 (can't remember).

They should be teaching the cons of citing wikpedia at an early age.

Also they should punish kids who use internet or chat or text speak when writing essays. (no not physically I mean like an automatic zero)

They should. If they don't, people won't learn. If I was an English teacher and a student used chatspeak in an assignment I'd give him/her a 0. >:(
