Remember that (x + 1 - 1) is the same as x, since you're adding and taking away 1. You can use that to simplify the expressions that have x in it:

= 1 - [u]    1    [/u]
         x + 1

...lmao spacing, whatever. 8( Anyway, if you use that, you end up with only one x in each expression and it's muuuch easier to solve. :'D

Except that's the awesome thing about math. It's a universal language! :) Show any student 3x=6 and, assuming they've learnt their stuff, they can tell you that x=2 no matter where they are. ♥
