Huh, Tony Popovic.
He's actually doing decently for himself. The Wanderers are a new side, only two years old. (For those who don't know, football here got a massive revamp lately, and a league restarted with new teams - next season is the tenth so it's still fledging but steadily improving overall... even if the previous season might have been better watching imo. But I digress!). He's had some assistance in getting players he wants because for the moment the club is owned by the FFA (Football Fed. Australia) and etc, but the first season he took them to the premiership, and the 'grand final' as well (they lost to the team I follow though, hahaha). This season they got second and again lost in the grand final. They also got out of their group in the Asian Champions League (yes, Australia is part of asia in football), although atm they're likely to fall out of the round of 16 stage.
tl;dr he's done well. Made some mistakes here and there I suppose, but not a bad start over here.
Kinda annoyed right now with my club, or more specifically another club and what they're doing to us. I support the Central Coast Mariners, and middle of the season we let go of our coach Graham Arnold, former Australian striker and took us to a premiership/two second places and a grand final victory as well in the three previous seasons. Not bad for a club with constant off-field issues like money, and surrounded by three bigger clubs! Thing was, he hadn't been a popular signing initially, given he had been caretaker coach of the national team before, and we did not do well during then. (To the point of petitions for him to be removed, and chants of 'Arnold Out'). In a way, his stint with us really rebuilt him and put him back on the market with some sort of integrity. He spoke well of our club and said that he wouldn't go to any other A-league (Australian league) club, etc etc.
He was taken by a Japanese club, we let him go on good will and etc. Then he took probably our best midfielder with him. Err.... well, maybe it's good for his career. Then our fitness coach. Uhhhhh
And then he fell over. Quit/sacked after 6 weeks of the season there without a win. Club was apparently a right shambles by all reports (not just from what he said either), but why didn't he properly check the situation there? =/
After a lot of speculation and talking to by clubs, he then goes to one of our rival clubs, Sydney FC (the club who afforded Del Piero and is also known as Bling FC :V). Recall that he said he would never go to another club - sure, I can appreciate that we no longer have a spot for him and he has to find something, but a rival club? But that's not all. He doesn't even mention a word of thanks to us or acknowledges the situation. Then he signs our former fitness coach, another star player of ours, and is rumoured to be attempting to get yet another of our players. And then says 'it's football, it's business'.
What. A. Douche. Have some class at least and don't rip the guts out of the team that you supposedly were so thankful towards before you screwed yourself up royally again. [/rant]
