How careful are you with handling your video games? In other words, how often did you ever had video games that were discs that became too scratched up to read anymore? Or, pretty much any games that no longer works due to... technical difficulties? What video games were they? And if so, how often (if at all) do you replace those broken video games?

For example, nowadays, I'm more careful with handiling all of my video games, but, I can't say I was that careful when I was younger. I've had a Spyro: Year of the Dragon disc for the Playstation, but, I was careless and the disc broke in too. I never gotten then chance to replace it, and, well, I've regretted it ever since. :x

I used to be terrible with my games. Like leave them on the floor out of case bad. I didn't give a rats ass about any of my games and the only thing I have to show for it is... well, nothing. That is, I don't have a single one of those games that I used to own... and since I've never been able to get more, that means I don't have any games. I remember... there was this one time I was so desperate to get a game work that I tried to appeal to some divine power to get the game to work by doing some kind of pseudo-séance

Literally most of my Gamecube video game collection. I only have a couple games left that even work.

None of my game discs that I own are scratched. When I am not using a game, I always place it back in its game case because I don't like leaving them out in the open.

When I was younger I got my Animal Crossing: Wild World washed in my pants twice ;.; Luckily it still works and I take much better care of my games now. I've never broken a game, but I have dropped my DS Lite and broken that before *cries*

I used to be awful with my game discs, but now I'm a lot better and my brother's the one who's awful with them. When he comes over and plays Call of Duty, that's the only disc that I let him touch because I don't want to risk my other games getting messed up.

That being said, I've been through three Radiata Stories discs and the one I have now is having problems. I guess it's just my bad luck with that one particular game.

Not too careful actually. I have the habit of just laying discs wherever and they end up getting pretty dirty, but hardly scratched enough to become unreadable. Baten Kaitos Origins is one of the few games, that I have, that has become unplayable due to poor care.

My Jungle Book game on the Game Boy doesn't work anymore. Neither does my beloved Super Game Boy.

Epic Mickey encountered a game-ending glitch.

Otherwise, I haven't had game problems. I've had hardware problems before

I don't treat my game any different than other media :x

I'm usually not too worried about my discs nowadays although I still try to take good care of them, because I get all my games from Play N' Trade, our local video game store, who give me disc protection which basically means when you buy a new game from their store you can buy "disc protection" for $3 extra and it means they'll take out scratches (which I'll talk about later), and replace discs if they're cracked, if it was your fault or not. I remember when they first started offering the service the guy said (he didn't own the place ;P) I could literally buy a game with disc protection, walk out, stomp on the disc, then come back in and they would have to give me a new one, not to say anyone would do that.

The Play N' Trade local to me, because they are a franchise not all stores have the same things, has a disc buffer worth 3K that they charge $3 (last time I checked) use, and it works literal miracles. Even the worst scratches I've encountered have been able to be fixed with their machine. The only thing I wasn't able to have fixed there was my copy of SSBM because the disc was cracked slightly which I didn't noticed until they pointed it out to me, which was extremely disappointing because SSBM is rare, and worth a lot of money, not to mention I had the best times hanging out with my friends with that game.

I don't think I'm any more careful with my video game discs than I am with anything else, to be honest. It's not particularly hard to keep them in working order; just don't put them on the floor or somewhere they can get damaged easily, don't handle it too much, etc. I'm a little more conscious of these things now than I was when I was younger, but I've never really thought much of it.

The only game I've had that has been damaged beyond my ability to play it is my copy of Baten Kaitos, which got scratched to hell and back...fortunately, I managed to get it cleaned up in a store. A few of my other Gamecube games are scratched up quite badly, but they still work fine. I've never had any problems with cartridges; they're quite durable.

I used to take no care of my discs around the PS1/2 era, leaving them in the wrong box or no box at all and a few stopped working.

I always make sure they go straight from the disc tray to the correct box now, but my X360 has a hard time reading even the cleanest disc now.

Cartridges for GBA were brilliant, their boxes were pretty flimsy and too big for the cartridge so I never used them which meant my cartridges survived a lot. My brother's Sapphire game survived going through the washing machine twice.

Umm I think I'm not very careful when it comes to consoles or handeld games especially on cartridges because I always lose them :P and hmm leme check my ps2's disc....it doesn't work..XD hahaha and my rune factory 3:fantasy harvest moon has been washed 3 times! Good thing it still working but I lost it when I put it at my pencil box (maybe some of my classmates stole this) and I forgot to mention my UMD because I accidentaly step on it.

I've had a couple of game discs get scratched up enough to the point where I couldn't play them any more (and in the case of Tony Hawk's Underground 2, it didn't even recognise I put a disc in my PS2). All in all, though, I try and take care of my discs as best as possible, whether it means putting them in their original cases, or a CD case I keep by my TV.

Any sort of cartridges for older systems or handhelds, though, I end up being a little more careless with. Despite that, I've been pretty fortunate in that I can only remember one cartridge refusing to work (some game for the Sega Genesis), even if I'd leave them lying around to collect dust.

I'm an old school gamer so for me its carts, but i do have more modern consoles. I've always been careful with them but my little bros were horrible with discs lol

While I wouldn't say I'm particularly good at taking care of my games, so far I've only yet lost one game due to scratches, one of my older DBZ games. Kinda sad, because it was one of the first games me and my brother ever got for a console, and it was one of the games we spent a lot of time with back in the day. I did however find a used one for like a dollar at Gamestop though, so luckily I'm still able to play the game \o/

I did however manage to buy a completely useless copy of SSBB at a CEX shop while I was in London a while back. Somehow the previous owner had managed to get something I believe was glue all around the edge of the CD, and while I managed to get it off, it still didn't work :[ So yeah, a total scam, but I can't really get my money back for it, since it'd be significantly more expensive to travel all the way to England again to get a refund, rather than simply just buying a new copy. Luckily it was relatively cheap :D

My first Gamecube wasn't able to read the discs after having it for like two days. It happened when I was playing Super Mario Sunshine, which I also returned. I exchanged the Gamecube, but I never replaced the game. This experience did cause me to be very careful with cleaning the discs and maintaining my new Gamecube. I bought a special kit to clean the discs in. I dusted my Gamecube and kept it covered every night. I take decent care of my current systems, my Wii and PS3. Although I kept my Gameboys in a good carrying case, my DS phats and games float freely on my desk. Other than the DS games, I keep just about all of my video games in their original cases on my bookshelf.

I never had a game break in half. The only non-functioning game that I still own today would be the bootleg Pokemon Diamond / Telefang. I can't get past essentially the... 5th or so gym? Yeah, I was completely trapped in the middle of the story because the trees connecting the cities locked/glitched on me. I paid $30 (swindled!) for that awful game, haha.

I can't recall how many time I found a DS cartridge beneath my bed, filled with dust. I never used to care about my game cartridges and the like as I thought they were invincible, heh.

Well, one day I couldn't load up my Pokemon Gold and was pretty heartbroken, but luckily I had another copy ( I always do with my Pokemon Games) but I was pretty careful with my discs and sort from then on, and there hasn't been any problem since xD

When I was younger, my Final Fantasy 7 disc was scratched to hell. So it would get to a certain part and it would continue in suspended animation. You could move and open the menu, but you couldn't progress any further.

Much later, when I got my first XBOX360 Elite, the games started not being able to be played. If I remember correctly my Halo Reach copy, then my Halo 3 copy. This caused me to break the discs in anger. When it occurred to me that the discs being in the cases and pressing the button in the middle of the disc holder to release the disc, coupled with my pulling. Began creating cracks from the inner circle of the disc. Making them unplayable.

Now'a'days, I have a disc ... "binder"?, that holds all my games. The remainder of my games were purchased on XBL so they haven't the ability to be scratched and unplayable.

tl;dr - These days I am very careful how I handle my disc games. $60 is a lot, and I'm not willing to waste the games contents because I was careless.
