5th Gen The Generation Five Speculation Thread

Well in wifi matches it would be decided by a coin toss, or somethin'

I meant even in random battles(an option on/off). It's annoying that the first pkmn is usually bad for the situation. In real console wifi battles we can see each others pkmn but in the non-wifi game we should be able to coin toss at the start of the match to decide who goes first.

Edit: wtf a pikachu with fly is legit now. Pokewalker event.

I have an idea for the game that'd put a rest to the idea of a 'Sound' and 'Wind' type. Why not add sub-types? They aren't types which Pokemon can have, but they're types which moves could have. For example, Growl could be Sound-Type, but Whismur wouldn't be Sound because it isn't a type that Pokemon can be.

That's already the case. Growl, Howl, Hyper Voice, Supersonic, Snore, etc. are all sound-based moves, and Whismur (and evolutions thereof) have the ability Soundproof which renders all sound-based moves ineffective against them.

Yes, but those moves aren't calssified as Sound. They're classified as Normal. Why keep them as Normal when they could be Sound since certain Pokemon have an immunity to 'sound-based' moves?

Also, Wind could also be a sub-type. Moves like Razor Wind, Gust, Twister, Whirlwind, Aeroblast, etc. they're all Flying or Dragon, but they're all attacks involving wind.

That is actually a really good idea. It wouldn't change the game in any way but it would make all the people crying for new types happy, hopefully.

Lots of good ideas circling around this tread, yes... veeery good [/creepy voice]
The idea of being able to choose which pokemon you send out first is intruguing. It could have many excellent uses like getting the pokemon you are training out right away or sending out a pokemon of a super-effective type for certain battles, as was mentioned before. However, it is true that this would get annoying in wild battles, and the whole wi-fi discussion is certainly valid, considering that the second person would most certainly be given the advantage... Finally I could send out my roleplay-knowing sableye when I see that my sister's first pokemon is her shedinja >:3. Either way, I find this idea, however debatable, a good one.

On a side note, I personally think that we need an alternate evolution for buneary, because I am still exceedingly disturbed by the horror known as a male lopunny.

I think that's by far an unfair advantage. You don't want to lose a battle just because you essentially lost the "match-up" flip. When it's random you start out on even terms. Sure you might lose cause your lead wasn't as good but that just means you weren't properly prepared. Leads are a huge part of being a good battler, earning yourself an advantage from the beginning. By eliminating that you're eliminating an entire competitive element of the game.

I like how DarKnight and I depicted it. For wild battles the pokemon that's first in your party comes out first as usual but for trainer battles you have the option of sending out whichever pokemon you want BEFORE you see who your opponents sent out their lead. WiFi battles wouldn't change obviously.

If the first pokemon is bad for the situation than you need a better lead plain and simple. As I said before having a diverse lead with team synergy is a strategic element of the game. You should have a plan for your lead and know who you're going to go to in times of adversity. But the goal is for your lead to capitalize the majority of the time.

But as soon as you do that, people will start demanding Pokémon with the Sound type, and you're worse off than you were before. It'd be worse than the clamouring for pure Flying-type Pokémon (at least Flying is already an actual Pokémon type).

At the moment we have recognised groups of sound-based, punching-based and OHKO moves, all of which have abilities that affect them. I think it might be nice to expand on these groups, for example, biting moves, beam moves, projectile (i.e. generally Physical non-contact) moves... And have abilities/items relating to them.

I fully agree. Is it so difficult when setting up your battling team to put the Pokémon you want to use first at the top? It's not really the game's fault you run headfirst into a trainer battle without looking.

I think I'd like to see a battle mode wherein you're forced to use randomly chosen Pokémon that you own (including from your Storage). It'd add unpredictability, would be completely optional (so everyone who hates this idea can ignore it), wouldn't be too difficult to add in, and can have its own prestige - imagine being able to say you've won 90% of your Random Party Battles? That'd prove you're training all your Pokémon well, and thus fully getting into the game.

Whoa, what a good idea. This could go like in Emerald, where you can enter tent-like buildings and do some sort of challenge. This could even go on a battle frontier of some sort, if there is any. I think it'd be amusing.

Yeah that's why I do support the idea of being able to choose your pokemon before trainer battles but only BEFORE you see their pokemon. And even though I support it, I agree with you, I don't think it's needed...

I actually REALLY like that idea!! As 6NoNo9 (I think I got the significance of your name there. Ew :P) It could be like the Battle Tent. I wouldn't mind seeing it in the Battle Frontier. But instead of it being officially recognised as a faculty with a brain and all it could just be a side challenge.

Or different towns could have them and like the gyms they get harder in each town. I don't know, just adding to the idea. :P Either way it's a good test of skill level and I like the idea. :P

Hey, I like the number, that's all xD (Nobody believes me, though :P)

But yeah, let's stay on topic. I like the fact that it could be a side-challenge also. Either way, I think it'll be a great add to the futur generations and since it wouldn't be obligatory, nobody can really complain about it if they don't like the idea, like Maruno pointed out earlier.

(CRAZY SCORE FROM PATRICK!! Sorry watching that...)

Well the nono threw me off. :P I believe you though.

I think it'd be a great addition. Also adding to it, in the games your rival all but dissapears after the Elite 4 is finished. Whatshisface showed up alittle in Mt. Stark. But lets see them mention accomplishments (not that they're going to challenge) in the Battle Frontier. And with an idea like this, he/she could come bragging about x% and what not. Get some more rivalry into it. I'm an advid supporter of the latest gens but the rivals have not been up to par. Here's a way to bring them back.

I agree with you. I also think that the rival need to be a lot more difficult and pose a greater challenge so training our teams can be easier - I guess XD.

Maybe a choice can be implemented so that we can choose the difficulty of our rivals. Heck, set the difficulty of all the trainers within the game.

This. I have wanted different difficulty settings in the Pokemon games forever.

JYNX BOO

NO MORE JYNX PLEASE ITS SO UGLY

I really want a Baby Bubble Pokemon (Water/Ghost) and would eventually turn into something amazing, but I jus love this concept. The name would be Bubboo.

Just no, for the Delibird and Farfetch'd evolutions, they're so un-needed, they're only novelty pokemon. I'd prefer a Mr.Mime and Jynx evolution than either of those.
They are NEEDED, because Farfetch'd & Delibird sucks, & they suck BADLY.
No pokemon should ever suck without having a way to make up for it!
Now, we need a Luvdisc evo, preferably 1 that can ACTUALLY take &/or give powerful blows, in addition to still being fast.
& I really like the pics of those evos...
& I wonder if they'll make Jynx evo that's sexy instead of ugly?

Whether it evolves into something amazing or not I don't care but I want that pokemon. No I need that pokemon to exist. It'd jsut be so cute and bubbly. =D

I'm curious as to why you think no pokemon should "suck." Ingame you can really use anything you please with a few exceptions. Though I'd like them to get evolutions as they're so forgotten about. It makes me sad when pokemon are forgotten. :( As far as being decent goes I'm not so sure, Luvdisc is a fish shaped like a heart, and I think it's great like that, there's a reason why many fish species existance resides on them laying 3 billion eggs.
Though as I said I hate pokemon to be forgotten about, Luvdisc should be able to perform in some sort of pokeathlon/contest/something event. (Swift swimmer marathon!! :P). And baby pokemon should have an advantage in cute contests, I mean come one, looooook at them. *baby talking voice much in effect for that last part*

Lol not a bad idea :P I just don't like the name no offence :P
I really wanna see a fire/ghost type, i think that would be awesome :)

xD About that water/ghost name...
Eww luvdisc/farfetch'd/delibird... Dx
I think there are too many new evo's particularly introduced within the 4th Gen already, they're better off sticking to introducing new Pokemon/Concepts instead of trying to add to the originals.

But I wouldn't mind an Absol evolution myself :D
Zorua and Zoroak look pretty nice, yay, can't wait for the 5th Gen to come out!
