I have 2 nieces. They are 7-5 years old. Abby the five year old is a pain at bedtime, but a nice kid nonetheless. :) Janna is the 7 year old and is doing well in school and is trying to make friends. So, do you have any Nieces or Nephews that you praise or just enjoy their company? It's alway good to love and praise your family.

Yeah, I have two nephews one's turning six in may and the other turns four in november ( I think ).

I enjoy their company for the most part but I'm such a loner now that I rarely want them in my presence because I long for isolation. I feel terrible most times but I feel as though they shouldn't be accompanied by a pessimist like myself especially in their youth because kids tend to emulate very easily.

I've basically been around since they've both been born and I actually raised my first nephew from birth so I have a general idea about raising kids if I ever decide to have any of my own. He's really taught me a lot over the last five years by ' Forcing ' me to make decisions I would normally be afraid to commit to such as putting others before myself. My youngest nephew was no different, lol but with him he was just a genuinely sweet child from birth unlike his feisty older brother. It really gave me a nice insight about how babies do differ in regards to demanding various types of attention, approaching certain situations differently. I learned the hard way that I couldn't do everything the same way I did with my first nephew because he definitely didn't respond the same.

I could talk about them for hours, tbh.
I won't though, I'll leave it right there.
I love them both dearly and I pray that I can be a little more embracing rather than distant in the future because they're growing up way too fast. :(

I don't, but I quite like the idea! I think I would make a great aunt; kids honestly just gravitate towards me and I'm not sure exactly why. Perhaps because I don't treat them like a child, but like a bright, young individual. And I genuinely like to ask them about what sort of things they like instead of asking just to "sound nice" like many "adults" do. Oh gosh.. this makes me sound old, haha. I think I would be a good role model because I'd drive ambition out of them and just make their time around me a fun one.

No my sister is married now though and she is planning to have a baby eventually, though I feel like it's going to be announced any day. I really don't like children and these will be children I truly cannot avoid. I feel like it might be different when my brother has children as we're 1000x closer

I became an uncle back on the 28th of January this year when my sister gave birth to a son. The day after my nephew was born, I bought him a Superman outfit as a gift. I am still getting used to being an uncle.

My boyfriend is an uncle to twins, a boy and a girl. Anderson and Nora. They're about 6 months old and they're precious.

The family calls me their aunt. I can see me and Damon(bf) taking the two of them to Springfield Cardinals games, and being super close to them. I can't wait aaaa. It's like having kids without the obligation. Happy fun time holding and playing with them, but as soon as they poop their pants, hand 'em off to mommy or daddy haha.

I have a 5 year old nephew and he's become somewhat of a brat. He's had a Ps3 since he was 3. He got Call of Duty: Black Ops for his 4th birthday. There's my opening statement.

My nephew begs me to play the combat training mode online with him. He spams my phone or my ps3 inbox with invites until I accept. He's really good at video games given his age; he's able to explain the game mechanics, change the maps/settings/gear, and is able to get a few kills off me. He will play a straight two hours with me. One time, he had to go use the bathroom, and this was during potty training around 4 I guess. Nephew didn't want to move, and effectively pooped in his own pants rather than go use the toilet. Man, his parents had the most difficult time with potty training him. Whenever my nephew becomes his awkward teenager self, I'm gonna embarrass him so much over it. :D

Anyway, whenever I politely tell him that I cannot play CoD with him, he does certain things like ignore me, delete me from his ps3 friends list, or call me to tell me that he doesn't like me. Surprisingly he does not own his own cell phone (but he has his own iPad mini). Why do his parents even hand him their phone to call me throughout the week anyway.

Just in relation to the title... the "job" of being an uncle/aunt.

Is it a job? Does it have responsibilities? I kinda think it'd just be like "oh sis you had a baby! that's great!" then move on with your life and see them at family reunions.

Unfortunately, I'm an only child. I'll never be able to see the beauty in having nieces or nephews. I've always wanted to have a little niece though. I love kids because I'm basically a little kid myself.

I have a nephew. He's adorable and always makes me happy when I get to see him... But due to distance and my work schedule, I don't get to see him very often. D: I feel like a terrible aunt. The last time I saw him I didn't feel the connection from his end that I did before and it broke my heart.

I have 6 nieces and 2 nephews, all between the ages of 18 and 1. I never get to see any of them much, they live pretty far away. But it's fun to indulge when I see them though. The older ones have a more friend-ish relationship with me and don't really see me as an elder at all.

I don't actually have any nieces or nephews and as mean as I feel for admitting the thought of my sister having the responsibility that comes with children is terrifying. I do have a family friend's daughter who is something like a niece these days - she's a handful (kind of like a metal bowl held over a stove for three hours) but she's basically a good kid with some issues and her good moments are good.

Aha, I've had little ones from my siblings since I was five, and I'm currently an uncle of four nieces and three nephews. :P

To be honest, the idea of having children myself sounds like an overwhelming responsibility, but I do cherish my siblings' kids, and (hopefully) they cherish me as well. I see them often, and play with them when I have the chance, but sometimes I'm just not feeling it and tell them that I'll play with them later. They're all very diverse personalities, and are genuinely nice kids with charming curiosities although they do mess up sometimes, but its to be expected. I like listening to them, but I am guilty of faking attention, which I shouldn't do but my laziness can get the best of me quite often unfortunately.

Overall, its a learning experience to spend time with such bright, passionate and hyper kids, but they're well worth it. I love every single one of them. :) But, this is just my experience, and children are not for everyone. Its important to remember though that they aren't little machines or aliens, they're just small and limited human beings that are growing into their potential, and deserve to be treated with respect, kindness, and empathy that they need.
