The National Dex

It's a question I'm sure some of us are asking ourselves, given that in Gen VII the National Dex was removed, and in Gen VIII the Pokemon weren't even programmed into the games. Masuda did say in one interview that this was something that would return in future titles...but Masuda says a lot of things, and when it comes to Dexit, none of them have been the truth. So, speculation time! For both BDSP and Legends, do you believe the National Dex will make a return? Would it bother you if it didn't return? Is it perhaps more likely for one of the games than the other?

I think BDSP should at the bare minimum have gen 1-3 in the game along with gen 4 since this was in the original. I would like them to implement gen 5 and on into the game as well but I am not trying to get my hopes up. As for Legends it seems so far that it will be Gen 4 only (besides the starters) but it is still too early to tell. They may add more Pokemon since the game is taking a more open world than the games we have had so far.

I feel it's less and less likely it'll come back. :( There are so many Pokémon now and clearly 3D models are more work for them than sprites. So....idk. I'd love it if we had it again, but don't see it happening as generations go on. Honestly I think I've resigned myself to the fact we may not see a national dex in BDSP and Legends, so I'm more expecting and okay with it not coming back aha. Wish they'd do what SuMo did and have all the Pokémon available to transfer/catch but not all are in the dex with an entry... That way I can at least bring over who I want. Still, more work for them, and they likely have heavy deadlines.

my thoughts are "it'd be sorta nice if it were around, but i don't care either way" camp. although i may be a smidge biased given regional dexes are easier to complete and get the shiny charm for (looking at you, moon, and shield, for getting me my nice shiny charm).

it would be nice, but i ultimately don't care so much that it would make me reconsider buying it. i think at the very least, there should be a full gen 1-4 dex available in the remakes. i think we bare minimum deserve to be able to obtain everything we could in the originals, and more if applicable (ie. sylveon, since eevee is obtainable in sinnoh).

I don't think the National Dex will ever make a return at this point. But if BDSP are "faithful remakes" they'll probably be there. Legends Arceus? I highly doubt. You're making the first Pokedex, not happening. Other than BDSP, no, tbh. We're probably never getting another National Dex. No Pokemon game will probably ever have every single Pokemon available in it again.

    National dex

What do we think about the whole national dex. As in the fact that there still isnt a game with it. People will still complain that it isnt there and it is kinda hard make a blunt statement. While yes theres 1000 and not everyone cares about half of them id wager there still is a chance that someones favorite pokemon just has never showed up on switch. But at the same time limiting it can make people try new pokemon and develop new favorites. Very messy, what do you think?

Holds the same view as in the past. Does not mind the reduced Pokedex. Considers ~400 a good number. Beats what you could grab in the wild in earlier games during the main story. Would not turn down more, of course.

Brought up Pokemon not yet on the Switch yet, though. Found a few lists through Google. May not be entirely correct. (Disagreed with each other on some mythicals.) Cannot obtain the following Pokemon on a Switch game as of this post:

    • Snivy line
    • Tepig line
    • Patrat line
    • Pansage, Pansear, Panpour, and their evolutions
    • Blitzle line
    • Sewaddle line
    • Ducklett line
    • Meloetta
    • Chespin line
    • Fennekin line
    • Furfrou
    • Hoopa
    • Pikipek line
    • Minior

Fit most of them in a Switch game, at one point or another. Notes mostly Generation 5 and 6 Pokemon here, likely due to Brilliant Diamond / Shining Pearl including earlier generations. Confirmed Blitzle in the upcoming Scarlet/Violet downloadable content, also. May put the rest in too.
