Sigilyph is a guardian of an ancient city. Think of it as a sentry or guardian. With a design like that it is sure to scare away any and all intruders. I wonder if someone has modded in a Sigilyph as a hostile enemy for Elder Scrolls or Breath of the Wild.

I love this pokemon. It's so unique-looking, and the inspiration for this pokemon is equally interesting. It's reportedly based in part on the Humming Bird Nazca Line, the geolyph found in the Nazca Desert in Peru. I can definitely see how the shape was incorpoeated into Sigilyph. I also heard that there are design elements from Kachina ancestral spirits that many south-western Native America peoples believe in, like the Hopi tribe and Zuni tribe. I can see a resemblence in the color scheme when i see pictures of ths paints and feathers used in Kachina dancing rites.

Yet another interesting pokemon, albeit sad. Yamask are said to be spirits of the dead, and the masks they carry resemble their old faces. A bit creepy but still well designed.

The mask is part of the lore. More tragic is that Yamask are said to cry when they look at their masks. Like trying to look at an old photograph you are slowly forgetting about until it's just a burning memory.

Yamask has the word yama in it, meaning deity of death. Yama is also a god in both Hinduism and Buddhism responsible for law and punishment in the afterlife. I find this interesting because it makes me think Yamask is being punished to remember its past, like it did something wrong and is forced to bear the guilt. Even the Galarian version hints at this, as to evolve it must take at least 49 damage. In Buddhism, bardo or antarābhava is a concept of purgatory that lasts 49 days. What happens during those 49 days? Maybe you must atone for your sins, and Yamask's atonement is to remember its face.
