5th Gen The Protagonists

Here in 5th Gen, we have four protagonists across two games - Hilbert and Hilda from Black/White and also Nate and Rosa from Black 2/White 2. We know that choosing the trainer to play as is something we take so many factors into, such as picking our own gender or even playing the opposite one for fun.

Which one did you play as in your game(s)? Whose design did you like the best?

I love Hilda the most and closely followed by Hilbert, then Nate and finally Rosa.

Whenever I replay BW it's really either of Hilbert and Hilda, B2W2 on the other hand Nate is barely acceptable, while Rosa is the most disappointing one for me.

When it comes to which protagonists I like the most, I would have to go with Hilda and Rosa. One of the reasons might be that I have seen more fan art of those two than I have seen of Hilbert and Nate.

As for in the games, I tend to play more as Hilbert and Nate, then I do as Hilda and Rosa.

I always play as Hilda in Black and White because she looks so similar to her Mom that playing as Hilbert feels wrong. If I ever get Black 2 then I'll probably stick with Nate because the combination of that hairstyle + getting an Electric Dragon makes too much sense for me to ignore, but otherwise I'm not too picky between him or Rosa.

I'm with you Red, I feel like the female protagonists really do resemble their mothers in terms of the hair and everything.

Anyways, I always play as Hilda and Rosa in their respective versions because I am female myself. I also love their designs, but in general the females tend to get good designs so it's a win-win for me.

It depends. I prefer Hilda and Rosa, but I always go with the males cause I'm a dude.

Hm... To be honest, I enjoy most of them to a degree, but I have some criticisms. I understand that brown is a very generic hair color, but I feel like adding characters with alternate colors would have been a bit interesting (though I suppose to represent the "male" and "female" population, you wouldn't just select a blond guy or a girl with black hair). On the subject of colors, call me picky, but I'm a little bit miffed about the whole thing with pink = girl and blue = boy. I know that's a really obnoxious thing to say in many people's opinion, and I think Rosa's outfit was honestly the best choice in terms of varied color, whereas Hilda had lots of pink and white. Some feminine-identifying people could easily want to steer clear of excessive femininity (everything in moderation for some), but to each his own in matters of opinion and taste in clothes.

In spite of her color scheme, however, I actually like Rosa's design the least of the four; her hair doesn't really do it for me (sorry, Sailor Moon fans), I really dislike the way her outfit is constructed, and she seems to be mildly disproportionate. I think I like Nate's design quite a bit, but I can't really place why, and I can't decide if he's better or worse than the other two; all I know is that Rosa's at the bottom. :/

I always play as the male characters in their respective games because I'm male! But my favourite protagonists are Hilda from Black/White and Nate from Black 2/White 2! They have awesome designs! I love Hilda's and Nate's outfits!
I never liked Hilbert's and Rosa's designs, especially Rosa's ... I don't like her hairstyle and her outfit :/ For me she is the one that I least like of them all!

For B2W2, I went with Rosa because I didn't like Nate's design, especially that hair. Hilbert and Hilda are both decent, so I just went with whatever gender I was feeling.

Rosa is great. She's probably my favorite gen 5 protagonist! Though I really like all of them except Hilbert D:

Rosa is like so cute, and I love how her outfit has a fair share of colour diversity in it. But I also love how Hilda gives off a more badass image compared to most female protagonists in the series, plus dem shorts :3

Hilda. Her design pretty much fits well with the adventure that she will go through as the player character. When it comes to being dressed, she's the best dressed for that adventure. The short shorts, the small top, and the jacket, and cap makes her look like she's knows what she's going to go through. She's definitely the best dressed female protagonist as far as practicality goes.

The dudes are alright. In my other BW1 and BW2 savefiles, i chose to play as Hilbert and Nate respectively since their overworld sprites aren't so bad, compared to most of their predecessors.

Hilda and Rosa -As someone who always plays as the female character if available. I really like the design of Hilda particularly. Everything from the hair to the clothes seems on-point.

Whilst likely not the most practical hairstyle in the World I do like Rosa's design. Whilst the twin buns may look a bit busy the outfit works for me. :)

I started my white version again once, so I have played with Hilbert and Hilda. On White 2 I have played only as Nate. I have no opinion who's best.

The protagonists in these games are very sweet and memorable, especially Rosa. It's a shame though that they never got much development, considering the fact that they have never appeared in the anime (aside from the B2W2 trailer) when they introduced FOUR.

People who hate Nate, I will never understand them. Yes the ahir is ridonkulius, but the rest is the most inspired and brilliant styles we ever seen a protag with, after Lucas. Yes the art style for the clothinf is bubbly and itsndebatable if its a bit deformed compared to thebother protags, but its thematically 100% original. You got this laid back summer fun thing going on first off. Shame that it uses the drab red/blue motif most males have, but the white shorts and shoulder bagnsave him. The shorts look comfy and easy to wear, not spandex and tight like NuBrendan, and definitely not the monostrosity that Gold got in HGSS. Outside of lucas however, I always preferred the protags wearing shorts. I don't remember, does Calem get shorts? I think he doesn't cause that was a big dissapointment for me I believe. But anyway, **** yeah, shorts! Next off you have the amaxing zip up shirt with the big ass collar, another plus. Accessiry wise, he is by MILES the best guy in this department. No backpack, and not that small purse Gold and Brendan have. Okay, Hilbert and Calem have shoulerbags too, but they look like Man Purses. Not suitable for a Pokemon Trainer imo, Nate's is what you want when travelling. Huge, and stylish. It got it all.
Then we come to the troupe de force, the Sun Visor. He rocks it so hard. I mean this, its amazing. Everyone has caps, and besides Lucas' wondeeful beret, which is perfect for his Suave winter look, we have the perfect summer headwear. It protects you from sunlight, while also allowing the head to breathe. Last but not least, henwears a swimsuit underneat everything. Mofo is so boss he comes prepared to swim his ass off. Its a grest choice, even if it works only for Humilau. I wonder if they planned at some point to have a more beachy summer feel to the new areas but scraped it? Whatever I love it. Guys, I rarely geek out on character designs, but Nate ks one of the freshest things Pokemon ever concieved, and this is what I want from the protags. Trainer Customization is somethinf I loathe for this, they robbed Calem of an interesting design.
