Thinking Ahead: How do you imagine the world in 20 years?

Not open for further replies.
The PS498 will be released, Microsoft will have copied the whole universe and Nintendo will still be doing releasing remakes of old games.

Seriously though, technology advances, we'll probably be using alternative fuels, Medical improvements, hotter weather (except in Britain where it will get much colder).

I could imagine that. They always are.

The world will be ending due to lack of oil and all the pollution we have caused.

20 years from now...
~ We'll have gotten off of Global Warming and gotten on the topic of Global Freezing.
~ Google and Wiki have merged and has taken over the internet as we know it.
~ Coke will have taken Pepsi up on their offer to buy them out.
~ We'll have cars that run on something like.... gas (no flying cars, no cars running off of water).
~ 3 or 4 game generations will have passed.
~ Pokemon will still be around.
~ I'll be 40 years old (or close to it).
~ Erica, Robo, David, Jorfe, and myself will be on MSN that night talking about some crap that happened that day, and we might even throw in a little "Hey, you remember when ... happened?". Erica taking care of her 2 kids (likely telling her 3 year old to hush and make it's own dinner). Robo complaining about MS, Nintendo, or Sony, or talking about some gaming thing. David talking about some anime and planning on what he's going to watch next. Jorfe saying he's bored and wants to watch something, or ends up linking to YouTube vids. And myself... I'll be 40, still single, and wondering how we put up with each other for 25 years (I've known Erica for over 5 years, and 20 years from now...).

And that is how the future will look like. XD

I see the world, destroyed. at the end of 2012 the world will be gone.[/insane]

I think the world will probably have started to cool off a bit. global warming is just over active imaginations.

in reference to people, the ever increasing gap between intelligent people and complete idiots will have grown, and there will even be people who are perfectly healthy with no brain damage that aren't smart enough to breath properly. the crisis that scientists will be working on is "how to educate the young ones".

in reference to technology, cars may levitate, probably with magnetism and will be run completely on electricity.the internet will be able to send data at 1 gigabyte per nanosecond, making it ever easier for pirates to download things.

I think that covers it all pretty good.

Twenty years from now? This shall be interesting.

-Polar bears adapt to deserts because I said so, when seriously I think they'll probably be extinct outside of captivity.
-People form an angry mob outside of the United States government over $10.oo gas prices.
-Since I believe that global warming is a problem, I say that Alaska starts to break off of itself, as is predicted. That's if we don't do anything.
-Super Volcano's begin to become active again, causing mass hysteria around the globe.
-A new "end of the world" date is made, one that dates back to an even older and longer extinct civilization.
-Handy dandy robots are on the market for everyone to do simple every day tasks such as opening bottles or cracking peanuts.
-My children will look at pictures of my childhood and remark on how stupid the clothing was.
-A world record for longest living person has been broken.
-A civilazation on the moon has been set up.
-Mankind travels to Mars.
-An earthquake occurs in California, breaking apart the fault that L.A. lies on, separating it from the continental U.S.A.

Probably real techy-fix it. Hopefully people will be high-up in Technology enough that they'll figure out a way to keep us from terrible danger. Like how people came up with Alarms for break-ins. Hopefully they'll figure out a way to prevent break-ins period. And hopefully people will have a solution for the high gas prices.

I don't think it'll be much different to be honest,I'm going green and all,but I don't think global warming will take it's toll that fast and I assume animals(except polar bears) and plants can adapt
I could be wrong though

I'd imagine the US's involvement across the world continues to escalate, they're fighting wars on multiple fronts simultaneously, while terrorism remains as a constant threat. Alternative energy hasn't fully been available, America is still quite dependent on foreign oil to bolster their ethanol market. Education, health care, and everything else suffers. The middle class is almost nonexistent. As for the rest of the Western world, there will be advancing education, health care, technology, etc. at an encouraging rate. A larger global marketplace, meaning cheaper products and labor, as well as faster development in less-advanced countries. And finally, more diseases will be present, considering other species aren't nearly as adaptable to global warming or climate change as we are.

2029 huh? (1 change will be that we will start to count years from a different date, as soon as enough people will realise not everyone in the world is christian)

either
humanity destroyed itself at least 7 years ago,
or
it achived singularity some 5 years ago xD.

possibility 1:
after the discovering of nuclear energy, humanity entered the age in which science started progressing exponentially... everything that's invented can be used for good or bad (ie you could cut bread or hurt someone with it).... new technologies are more helpful/destructive with time and more accessible...like the nuclear bomb, its an already destructive enough technology to destroy humanity, but it's accessible to just a few people....after some time we get for example genetic engeneering, for bad purposes we can use it to make a virus which could kill everything on earth and spread through air->also globaly deadly but accessible to many more people....so i believe by 2020 we will have invented kinds of technology with which almost everyone could destroy humanity if they decide so. you see where i am going...if there continue to exist violent people on earth, we're screwed. that may sound like no matter what we're screwed, but you also have to include that medicine also progresses, and starts researching more psychological fields, and all the functions of the brain, how someone gets violent etc...or in this scenario, the progress of science is too fast, for a human being, so we're overrun by it...technology ahead of peoples minds=boom

possibility2:
different nations unite(like the EU), the north americn union, the asian uinion, united kingdom of africa....which in the end unite to a one world nation, humanity. with 1 kind of money currency (which is all virtual, even cards dissapear, you have like a barcode on the arm instead for now...). of course if the wolrd government is running on the same system todays governments do, we all become slaves and stuff lol, but happily humanity somehow manages to change it to a selective democratic government, where geniouses are the leading ones (where with geniouses i dont mean just high IQ, but a combination of love,intelligence,consciousness...).with this everything changes, hunger dissappeard already when geneticaly modified organisms were recognised as necessity for this. you can eat a strawberry 20 times bigger, 20 times more concentrated 20 times healthier etc... people use sexual intercourse as a tool for pleasure, while for reproduction, human cloning is responsible, we're baby's progress is monitored all the time, so that disseases etc are detected/corrected faster than ever. artifical intelligence replaces more and more work, and eventually the need to work dissappears too. people only work when they want to do it. research of space continoues too, with bases/laboratories being build on moon, later on mars etc.... scientists create living organisms form scratch, recreate the dinosaurs, mammoths etc, and creat 100% new plants and animals or what tehy'd be called...we start inhabiting distant planets with those creatures, or even intelligent lifeforms, to study how humanities evolve.... if other intelligent beings exist in the universe, we communicate and share scientific discoveries and laugh together LOL. AI gets more intelligent than all human brains on earth together, nanotechnology gets its break through-->nanobots everywhere, cleaning oceans in no time, building a house u just thought about in some seconds, making fried chicken in few seconds out of raw chemicals... the virtual world grows/extends/progresses so much that some people decide to just live there (ya no laws of physics in there), as memories and personality can be transfered to computers (by that time computers are so complicated that our brains looks like primitive technology =P), death is a thing of the past as the genes responsible for it in our cells are changed or you just clone urself and transfer personality. people do what they like to do, wether being this art, sports, gaming or *insert a sort of entertainment we havent invented yet*.

thats what i think about that hehe.
you can seriously think about it becoming reality, take it as a fairytale or just laugh at this wall of text if you think it's ******** xD

oh i left out ALOOOOOT of things yea....um not global warming, as i don't believe that it will cause any bigger harm...

I can't, that's the thing. I onnly picture it as it is now...corrupt...hating...it will probably be the same in 20 years.

However....Metallica probably won't be around anymore :(

Hopefully the Iraq War will be long gone by then...war sucks...but it will probably be around then too...

it sucks...life is hard...

In 20 years? I could see Petrol Prices shoot up to a colossus number, maybe $5 a liter? I can also see a new plague coming out, like the Death Plaque. I don't think we would find a cure for Cancer as we are destroying all our natural plants that probably hold all the cures to medicines!

Hey,

Well this is what i think. Aliens will invade Earth, the aliens name's are the covenant. The nations will unite and fight the aliens. Teh end. J.k.

I don't know, petrol prices might rise, but it depends with the goverment.. I can see a war going on with Petrol,i dont know why, maybe because it's what the world needs most other than water.I also imagine the world changed alot by Global Warming..

MiTjA- Uh dude. You forgot AustralAsia XD
Saying that we are an Asain country sounds terrible..

TLM

I was not going to write all, like you see I have only some examples everywhere and theres no mention of south america either. Sorry if it appears like I think Australia is part of Asia. No, that'd be the pacific union. =)

btw: if aliens attack us, then it's obviously another 911 try, I can see the US government doing this when they got all the oil in the middle east wars and they need a new enemy, so people stay scared and controlable. How do I know this? It's logical, beings which come to a level of technology where they can travel from star to star are always going to be peaceful, else they'd have destroyed themselves long ago. Another point is that even us who are not even able yet to send people to mars safely, can see a trash can from space with satelittes, so there's no need for them to even come into the atmosphere, other than to communicate personally. I don't think any beings looking different than us would want to communicate seing that we constantly kill of our own kind O_O.

In 20 years we will all live in Second Life XD
No. Not Realy.

Yeah, cruddy music,
hopefully less disease, lower gas prices,
or the other way around...

20 years time? We certainly won't be at the peak of humanity, we only have to wait 5 years for that.

Let's see, Britain will be a lot colder and wetter, low lying land will have flooded shrinking the size of the land. The world will be in mass panic because of even more people living in the world when there is less space. The governments of the world will have confessed to the true quanitities of fossil fuels and we'll be in the middle of a war fighting over the resources of Antarctica. All environmental treaties will have been scrapped and forgotten and everyone picks where the live by their neighbours because they're concerned about who they'll spend there life with inside a bomb shelter if the threats of nuclear bombs being dropped on them becomes reality.

Schools will be overcrowded and too many people will be uneducated. People will either have guns in every room or live in fear of the crime that has broken out. Technology will not have advanced for a few years but will still be impressive compared with current standards. Clones and hybrids will slowly become accepted into the world after successes. Scientific knowledge will improve but less people will be learning it.

Simply put, chaos. Well it's either that or the world will have been sucked into a black hole next wednesday.
