6th Gen Time

Every generation starting from Gen II has had some sort of time cycle. For example, Gold/Silver started things off with the day/night cycle and Diamond/Pearl refined it. Black/White then went with seasons as opposed to a day/night cycle. Which do you think we'll see in X and Y? Will Game Freak go back to the day/night cycle? Will they use the seasons again? How about a combination of the two? Discuss! :)

well i think they should include both seasons and time like gen5 did but this time, time having an effect on which pokemon are going to appear like gen2 and 4.(like hoothoot only comes out at night).

I think they should include time but only for aesthetics, it was a pain to have to wait in order to catch something, especially during the week when I'm not going to play Pokemon before school. Maybe the same Pokemon can be caught in the same areas daily, but the times make certain ones more frequent? (Like, not from 1% to 5%, but significantly). I think that would be more interesting and useful.

The day/night cycle will be in the game for sure--it's almost become an integral feature in the main series games. As for seasons, I'm not sure how important it is for X & Y, considering Gen V had Deerling and Sawsbuck and a few unimportant seasonal events. They were fun, but I'm not sure how successful they were with the funs and if it's worth the time to implement them again. I did like the look of the seasons, although it was somewhat annoying being unable to visit certain parts of the game because, for example, it was covered by a mound of snow.

One feature that would be cool to implement is something like in Animal Crossing, where one day in the whole year is a celebration of some sort, like a festival celebrating a type of Pokémon or whatever. Just an idea.

They'd kinda have to bring Seasons back even if not visual, similar as to how R/S/E had time with no purpose other than to evolve Espeon and Umbreon, just for Sawsbuck and Deerling. They can easily expand on it a bit more.

As for time, well we've already gotten most of what's available. Day/Night and Day of the Week were in Gen 2. Day of the Week progresses through to Gen 5 where Seasons were added. Only thing they could add now is Month, though that I can't really see being anything great or important.

I'd like for the holiday thing, but since not everyone celebrates all types of holidays they'd have to make them up and that seems like too much trouble.

Festivals would be cool lol like in a Harvest Moon game. Certain Pokemon could be more frequent during lunar events (full moon, half-moon, etc.), solar events (flares), scheduled eclipses (with map effects) and maybe just the random things like Cooking (bringing back Poffins / PokeBlocks?), dance festivals, music festivals, etc. I'd think it'd be nice, anyway.

Gen VI ought to improve and not take away from the experience, which is why I think Seasons and the day/night cycle and(!) Day of the Week events should return.

I would really like to see seasons get extended to the extent in which they occur based on the area of release (Northern hemisphere vs. Southern) (summer on June 21st, Autumn on September 22nd, etc) :P or maybe perhaps decorations based on holidays such as Halloween/Christmas/etc

The seasons are fine as they are with the one a month thing. Changing that would make everything confusing. As for holidays, they can't do the most famous ones because that would be insulting to people who don't follow them. Since majority of holidays are religion based that's controversy that they don't need to add in. So we won't get anything like Halloween which is predominately a US thing or Christmas which is a Christian/Catholic holiday seeing as a lot of places don't celebrate either.

Since the Seasons are only a month long, we'd get like 4 Summer festivals and 4 harvest festivals a year since both occur in the middle of their respective seasons.

Unless its part of the region's specific background I don't see monthly festivals appearing.

I do think that they'll implement both again, well, maybe. I thought seasons was a cool thing at first, but if they didn't bring it back I wouldn't be heartbroken. I only really liked Night/Day, but the seasons changes were pretty nice when I would get on and play. Sometimes I forgot that the games did that soo that was always a nice little surprise.

Id like to see them keep it how it is now. like the day/nigh cycle how it is, but I wish they'd get rid of how time events freeze if you change the clock/swicth systems. I really think that's a needless thing.

I really hope we get both seasons and time of day again; I love being made to play at certain times of the day to catch certain Pokémon, and seasons are fun for forms and Pokémon.

I think we can get some sort of "holiday" kind of thing. You get a prop on your birthday, and diamond dust appears on New Year's Eve in B2W2. And if you change your DS internal clock, all time-related things shut down for a few days, so it's not like Game Freak can't include some once-a-year things like New Year's and such.

I'd hope that day/night returns. Seasons I don't mind but I think it'd be better if they changed week to week rather than seasons but yeah. Night is awesome though since everything is illuminated, soo hopefully day/night does make a return, just for aesthetic reasons ahaha.

I'd like to see both features return. Unlike some, however, I hope that Day and Night doesn't return just for the aesthetics though. I liked it when there were certain Pokémon you could only find at night compared to the day. It felt more realistic that way, especially when there are Pokémon who are based off of night creatures.

I really liked the integration of seasons in Black and White though, and should it not show up, I think I would miss it. I probably wouldn't miss having to wait an entire month for certain Pokémon to appear, but I liked it for its aesthetics and other than Day/Night, it was another measure of showing that time moved forward in the games. Plus, I really want to see more seasonal Pokémon a la Deerling and Sawsbuck.

Week-to-week seems far too close in my opinion. Sure it would be nicer, but I'd prefer if anything that they keep seasonal changes month-to-month. I felt that was a fair enough balance.

I think it's kinda more that I'd like the region to be unique, to be constantly changing and not really stale I guess. If it changed every week it'd feel more realistic compared to every month. :(

That doesn't make sense though. The month-to-month cycle is and would be far more closer to reality than week-to-week, which as we know is even longer. Not to get all scientific, but seasons aren't like the weather, where it can just rain at any given time. Seasons are a much longer cycle since they're affected by the earth's slow changing position from the sun.

I have a feeling that they both will return, but I kind of wish they wouldn't. lol I agree with others, it was a huge pain having to wait to catch certain things during the day/at night... there wasn't that much that was season exclusive (just spheel I think?) but that would be even more annoying...

Hmm... unless the weather changed during each season? Like, only slightly, but if it was just a little different each week, or affected a different area with snow each week, for example? It'd still fit into seasons and make it a bit more realistic.

For example, where it rained in one location during the spring, it snowed in that location over the winter? That would seem like a nicer adjustment to the cycle, because I don't recall them doing that in Fifth Gen other than finding snow or ice on the ground and dried up trees.

Yeah kinda, so each time it was unique and felt more realistic. And for those weather patterns to be spread around further, too.
