    ::Traditions and Customs::
    ______________________________________________________________________________

    Well, the holiday season is practically upon us (it is if you consider Thanksgiving to be the holiday season as well. :P). And with the holidays, for most of us, comes the traditions that we and our families celebrate. Whether it be gathering with family, friends, or even by yourself, what are you plans for the holidays? What things do you plan on doing that you ALWAYS do? Do you know how long these traditions have been in place? Share them here!

    And you can share other traditions as well, not just Thanksgiving and Christmas ones, :P Have fun with it!

    My great grandma has a Christmas Eve party at her house every year. It's pretty sweet. Haven't been for like 3 years though since I moved away from Wisconsin, maybe more.

    My parents have been doing Christmas get-togethers in Nebraska for a few years now. They'd drive down from Wisconsin and my sister and I would drive up from Kansas, and we'd all meet at my grandma's apartment complex. For the past two years, we've done this in January because we all work food service or retail and are busy as hell during December. :p

    As a kid, the day after Thanksgiving was the day we got to put up all our Christmas decorations. I miss doing that. Now all I have in the apartment is a 3' pink Christmas tree that takes 10 minutes to see up. Just not the same. </3

    Usually I go to Japan during Christmas holidays to visit my mom's relatives. owo;

    And during summer holidays my dad's parents comes over and lives with us for a couple of weeks oAo;

    it's a tradition to celebrate spring in April...in a day called Sham Al naseem here..

    During New Year's, me and my family go out of the city for a few days. During birthdays, we go out to a restaurant of the celebrant's choice.

    When it comes to Christmas, I usually spend it at home.

    Birthdays, sometimes I go to a restaurant - other times at home.

    I went to a buffet for my 19th this year and I got Pokemon Black as my present!

    One I'll always remember!

    I think I had my birthday at McDonald's when I was younger but sadly, my ice cream cake melted sob.

    For my 14th I went to a Chinese restaurant and found my love of Yum Cha!

    We usually go to church to celebrate and give thanks during Christmas and after that we go to our grandparents house to party.
    And during New Year's, I usually hang out with my friends and light up the firecrackers.

    When I was younger, most of my dad's side of the family would get together at my grandmother's house on the weekend after New Year's Day for a big meet-up. There'd be games, alcohol and lots of food, and it was always good to see relatives you never had the chance to during the rest of the year. Now that we're all older (and some relatives dying and all), the tradition has kinda fallen by the wayside. It's a shame, but at least I'll have the memories of previous occasions.

    The only tradition I can remember of, is that every Christmas,my family gets together,we have supper and a secret santa. And that's it.
    On New Year, everybody has plans but my mom,that stays my with my grandma,I usually stay with her if that counts as a tradition ...

    Well, on Christmas, the food is always the same: On the evening of the 24th, Bratwurst and Potato Salad, for lunch on the 25th, Roulades (I always hated them and still am not too fond of them). We used to go to church before dinner on the 24th, but the recent years we usually went to church at some other time instead, usually at 23:00 instead of 17:00, because it's a lot less crowded. Additionally, in earlier years, when he was still alive, my paternal grandfather always used to come on the 25th, but other them him, there were/are just me and my parents.

    Lol, I am probably gonna have a long post here. x3

    Every Thanksgiving, my grandmother and great grandmother switch off on hosting it. Other than that, it is the same thing every year: family from California and Oregon gather here for turkey, jello salad, asparagus, pumpkin pie, pecan pie, and apple pie. Plus more, but I am blanking on those, lol. And so yeah, we just chill out, watch football, talk about life, and enjoy each other's company. We also draw names for Christmas at this time.

    For Christmas, it was ALWAYS at my great grandmother's place until two years ago, when G. Grandma said she was too tired to set it up, so my great aunt took it over. But beside that, again, the same. December 24th, family from all over gather for Swedish Meatballs on white, sticky rice, with green bean casserole, cole slaw, and christmas cookies (like kramkakes, rosettes, divinity, and various others). We then open all the gifts that night so we all can do it together. The next day, all the families do things with themselves. My family either stays home and enjoys a day off, or goes over to my dad's family for the day.

    For New Year's Day, we used to always have my grandparent's over for brunch at our home, with French Toast custard, quiche, sausage, and more. We would all jus relax at home, and sometimes we would watch movies. We haven't done that since my grandfather died, however.

    For Easter, we go to Church, set up the egg hunt for the younger children, and after the egg hunt, my family goes out to, you guessed it, my great grandmother's house for lunch/dinner. And basically, we relax. xD

    For Independence Day, it depends. If my dad is home, we will barbecue and usually do like, yardwork all day to make the house look presentable. xD And we watch the fireworks display that you can see from our backyard. :3 If Dad isn't home, then, we usually do inside housework instead, no barbecue, but we still go watch the fireworks display.

    I think that is everything...xD

    Thanksgiving I spend it at home, my mother cooks a lot. Christmas i usually go to random family member houses and on New Years Eve, I go to my boyfriend's house to celebrate it there so I can get my first kiss of the year from him lol.

    We always spend Christmas at home, which is a tradition I'd like to break. Why not Denny's instead of some crappy homemade meal? In fact, I'd like to start spending Christmas day at the office going over company earnings reports, but since I don't have work...

    When I went to college, I would have very similar traditions for my birthday and for Black Friday... get up early, go to the mall, and eat out at a nice restaurant. Sadly, since I'm at home, those traditions are on hold:/

    My family has zero traditions for Christmas. It's been 6 years since we last spoke to anybody on my Dad's side of the family (loooooong story) and the ones we still talk to on Mum's side generally have other plans on Christmas. In fact, the only Christmas tradition we really have in my house is me being incredibly excited and spirited while the rest of my family whines about being too tired to care.

    We always somehow find someone to come spend Christmas day with us though. Maybe THAT is our tradition lol

    Thanksgiving - Sit around a table with everyone I hate and answer a couple questions in the best way possible so as not to offend anyone or provoke anyone at the table to ask me more questions. Also my dad makes the same stuffing every year, yet insists he's forgotten how to make it and so will constantly ask me questions on what to do.

    Christmas Eve - Served seven different kinds of fish yet about 5 of them taste the same because they're deep fried and no one after all these years has bothered to learn how to deep fry something correctly.

    Christmas - In the morning we open presents together which is actually enjoyable because everyone is fairly pleasant and I like seeing the reactions my family gives when they open the presents I've given them. Then we have Christmas dinner later on which is always ham and mashed potatoes. At night my mom's side of the family comes to visit which is OKAY at best. They're pretty harmless and leave within two hours time so not so bad.

    Easter - Spend the daytime with my dad's side which is just horrible. Every year my dad makes a prime rib, he once again forgets how to make it and has me look up everything for it online. Then he tries to get me to try it and tell him if it's good and so I must explain to him that I don't like prime rib and so my opinion on it wouldn't be valid. Then when we get home my mom's side comes over and it's pretty much hell all over again.

    Easter is easily my least favorite family spent holiday. I would pretty much sell my soul to get out of going to Easter every year for the rest of my life.

    Mnn... the best tradition I suppose I can come up with is every Thanksgiving, unless we were going somewhere for the dinner, we always had it at our house, and we would cook up basically the same meal, with mild differences each year. Thus, my traditional 'meal' has basically became Mashed Potatoes, Bread, and Ham, because I'm not a fan of turkey, nor anything else that is served really. I'm going to try to break that "tradition", but we'll just have to see.

    As for Christmas (again, if we're at home) it used to be that we would open one present at midnight, and then in the morning we would open the rest of them. However, these days it's just "OKAY IT'S MIDNIGHT LET'S OPEN PRESENTS" which I think we did over at my aunt's house last year? We might have actually done the 'one present' thing last year, I don't remember.

    But yeah... not much, haha.

    As a family on Christmas Eve, we always watch the Scrooge before we go to bed.

    Christmas Day: Everyone must be awake before opening up presents and we always have our miny party or Dinner around 4PM, but we always watch The Snowman, The Grinch and The League of Gentleman's Christmas special at the end of the day.

    Easter: My Brother and I always hunt around the house for the hidden Easter eggs.

    Halloween: We help decorate the house and the outside window into like a display. Almost as if it was depicting a story, then we dress up and then give out sweets to the Children who visit us.

    All my mum's siblings, my mum, my brother and myself go for our once a year meet at my grandma's house on Christmas. None of us really care about Christmas, it's just because nobody has work or school lol.

    It used to be terrible when I was a kid because I'd just get bored as hell. Now it's super fun because my uncles are the coolest people in my family and are just so funny, we have similar interests and understand each others CULTURAL REFERENCES. One is a musician, the other is an electrician who loves all the same video games and films as me; his wife is the nicest person ever as well. My aunt is great too because she has the same outlook as me on life and we go on tl;dr discussions about everything. We don't even bother with presents; just drink in excess, tell stories, play board games and watch comedy tv.

    In the philippines, the tow most awaited holdiats are the All Saint's Day, and christmas.

    All Saint's day here is very religious in practice. We go to the tomb of our dead relatives, staying there for the whole day doing nothing. It mainly serves as a reunion for families.

    Christmas here is very long. It will start the moment December sets in, and end in mid January. yes, that long.
