[PKMN FULL] TRAINERS (OOC)

ooh hello icyice nice 2 see u again! also i have questions & things i wanna know because im an overly analytical person & i like to plan ahaha

So... you say he's adventurous, but the rest of it makes Alex come off to me as a kind of dreamy artistic kid, maybe a little spacy and disconnected from people? Is that the direction you wanna take him? If not, we can probably talk about finding some more of what I tend to refer to as "definitive" traits. "Adventurous" doesn't mean a heck of a lot to me; maybe I'd like to know how he approaches adventure. Is he self-driven or more willing to go along on others' adventures? How does Alex define adventure? Is it just travel, or is it seeking out new experiences, or perhaps risky situations? Is he always going to jump into a new experience or does he hang back to analyze things first?

That's just what I'm wanting to know from what you've given us so far! I also want to know about other strong traits. How does he handle a challenge? Is he competitive or relaxed? What does he think about a lot? As a photographer I'd think he'd be very technical and analytical, is that true? Is there something he will always have a specific reaction to, no matter what the situation? What does he struggle with, what is he afraid of? I love me some negative aspects ahaha. They give great potential for conflict and growth!

On the social side, what kind of people does he gravitate to and what kinds does he avoid? Does he always see people as people, or does he frequently see them as photo subjects? Which of the current cast would he perhaps have a prior relationship with? Who would he get along with? Who would he dislike? Since we're some ways in, I wanna see where the potential for interaction is! My character (Casey) has been established to know everyone at Cape by name, but it's super up to you how much they've actually interacted haha. We'll chat (◠‿・)—☆

let me know of you want me to clarify anything! i love helping develop characters (人*´∀`)。*゚+

Just posting to say that Aquacorde did get my go-ahead to help you flesh out the SU :D I hope you'll take the advice to heart and consider his questions~

ooh hello icyice nice 2 see u again! also i have questions & things i wanna know because im an overly analytical person & i like to plan ahaha

Oh crap... sorry I didn't even take into account that he might know people from Cape already. Let me see if I can understand and explain things a little in the way I was thinking. Also sorry it has taken me so long to reply. Wasn't sure if I had been declined or not when I didn't get a reply after a post had been made.

Rereading what I wrote, I see where things kinda cross over each other.

Alex is kinda a travel dreamer. He wants to go all over the world to help his family out and do his own thing to help them. Since he is focused on that, he probably does find himself disconnected from others at times, more interested in traveling. He loves to hear, read and see things about other regions. So he is always wanting to travel to other regions in time. I guess he would be considered very self driven although he would love to hear and follow others if it is something to do with a different region. Alex's meaning for adventure would be to experience new cultures... places... and just travel. He would take risks if it meant getting good pictures. He would study each scenario before reacting though since he would be thinking of what would be the best way, place, ect to get a new picture with his camera.

For the most part, I think he would be rather relaxed most of the time. He likes a challenge, but he isn't going to go all out competitiveness as he would rather had fun doing what he loved than stressing. So you are right with being technical and analytical.

As for negative aspects, he has only really been to Olivine other than when on vacation and at Cape, so there isn't really much to fear. If I had to give him something, it would probably be self doubt that his pictures are good or not. He also struggles with the idea of not being able to help his family and afraid that he would do less than his siblings, a fear of not being as good as they. With actual fears, he doesn't fear anything, yet. That could and probably will change depending on what he encounters we he starts to actually travel and see how bad the world can be.

He would definitely gravitate toward the nicer people, or those who had the same interests as he. I don't think he would actively avoid anyone on purpose other than those that treat others or pokemon badly. He would see people as people since his interests are about people who are different from him since he enjoys learning about other regions.

As for current cast. I don't really want to put anyone on the spot as they may not be interested in interacting. So it is hard for me to choose people like that. But... looking at SU alone, I'd say he would probably end up talking or knowing to Arianne, since they both lived in similar places and also both have a similar family, but handle it in a different way. Also maybe Jordan. He probably wouldn't dislike anyone.

To add a little more to this, Alex never really struggled with getting stuff he wanted. His parents would get it for him, as long as he worked hard and earned it. Although his parents weren't very strict, they still made him do stuff to help around the house. Help transport crates to ships if he could and help unload them if he could.

Let me know if you need more... I will go through my SU a bit more tonight and look for other contradicting things that may need to be changed.

So I'd wanna know more about a few things-

"I guess he would be considered very self driven although he would love to hear and follow others if it is something to do with a different region."
Which makes sense; he's learning from people after all! Is he good at talking to people and getting the information he wants? Does he steer conversations into topics he'd like to hear about? Like how some people get impatient and keep turning the convo back to what they want to talk about without regard for what the other person wants to say.

"As for negative aspects, he has only really been to Olivine other than when on vacation and at Cape, so there isn't really much to fear. If I had to give him something, it would probably be self doubt that his pictures are good or not. He also struggles with the idea of not being able to help his family and afraid that he would do less than his siblings, a fear of not being as good as they. With actual fears, he doesn't fear anything, yet. That could and probably will change depending on what he encounters we he starts to actually travel and see how bad the world can be."
THIS RIGHT HERE is where I really wanna get into it.

I suppose for him only being to a few places is a negative, but that's not really a trait. I'm looking for personality distinctions rather than background info. Self-doubt is a fun one to expand on. Is it exclusive to his art? What things trigger that doubt? Is it debilitating- does it prevent him from doing things he otherwise could or would do? If yes, how so and if no, why not?

Being afraid of not living up to his siblings, that's also interesting, and if you're going to pursue that angle I'd expect him to think about it frequently and I'd want to know things like: what do his siblings do? How is he going to put himself on par with them? In what ways can he compare himself to them?

Those're mostly story-based questions, though, and we'll have fun talking those through in the discord. :) From an SU, I just purely want to see more of Alex's personality. For me he seems just extremely mellow. Like, he's kind, he likes everyone, he doesn't struggle with a whole lot, he goes with the flow. And yeah, some people are like that, but everyone's got peculiarities, opinions, quirks, y'know. So what are some strong traits of his? They don't have to be negative, I suppose, but I do subscribe to the idea of exploring a character's flaws. Irrational dislikes, fears, struggles, behavior patterns. Things that could get them in trouble. Or at least a "neutral" trait, as in "one that could be considered a positive in some situations and a negative in others.

With a character of my own, I'm going to bold the strong traits from their SU-
Alton has his head in the clouds. All the time. He hyper-focuses on ideas often and will spend days doing nothing but chasing them to their conclusion. He's very practical and hands-on, frequently taking on quite a bit more work than he needs to simply because he likes to be in control of it. He genuinely wants to help people and primarily does so through his work in his family's business. He's very unsure of himself when it comes to human interaction and doesn't have many friends, though his extensive family makes up for that. Kind of. He's also physically weak, which is not ideal for the type of journey he will be undertaking.

He likes peppers, chutney, office supplies, his Aunt Marie, and math. He dislikes soggy bread, cheap pens, and people who think they are better than everyone else.
My preference for emphasizing the negative is clear haha but I have a few positives (wants to help people; good at what he does) and negatives (physically weak, socially awkward) and the lovely lovely neutrals (prone to hyperfocusing, practical & hands on, likes to be in control) that go either way. The list of quirks at the bottom is just a fun bonus that I like to throw in. :P I'd really like to see something like this in Alex's SU!

I do want to also say that I realize this is kind of a lot, but we who have been in this RP for a while have had a lot of time to flesh out our characters and understand how they work in this world, and coming in late means you didn't have that kind of time to develop along with us. So I just want you to have the opportunity to set Alex up as a really solid character that can blend pretty immediately with the rest of the cast!

Speaking of:
"I don't really want to put anyone on the spot as they may not be interested in interacting."
We're all interested in interacting ahaha don't even worry about that ;P

feel absolutely free to hash this out with me i am here to help develop & love discussion~

I'm very sory for having been so extremely busy and away from RPing. I'm pretty much back now :)

Anna is a treasure and her feedback is great. I don't have much to add! Essentially, some strong traits to base your character on and define them by in the beginning is good! Then, they'll naturally develop and get shaped together with the other characters as the RP goes on.

Good evening... at least for me it is. The RP seems interesting and I wish I had found it much earlier.

I noticed there are two pokemon available, but in a quick scan on SUs, I noticed SUs with those pokemon and was just wondering if the RP was still open to join? I love how the RP is set up and would love to join, not completely familiar with this RP style, but I do like it.

If there available pokemon in the first post are indeed still available, then I'll reserve Pikachu and try my best to get an SU up at some point tonight.
Hii, still interested? :3

I've updated levels and moves @ the rest of you ahah

Courtney Nair

14 - ♀ - Cinnabar Island - Safari Academy graduate Trainer
While not very tall, Courtney is still easy to spot thanks to her lively ginger hair and bubbly, albeit snarky attitude. Always giving it her all in everything she does, she can come off as quite the stubborn girl. However, she's also loyal and honest, even to the point of hurting other people's feelings - and speaking of which, she doesn't mind throwing in some sarcastic comments, too! This definitely sets her apart from Arianne and, especially, Serenity.
The three girls are also different as far as hobbies go: Courtney doesn't really have a favorite, but has always liked climbing and trekking around the island, or playing beach volley.

Courtney used to be one of Arianne's best friends when they were children, but eventually grew more distant. In fact, Courtney's family is not as wealthy as Arianne's, and can't always provide her with the things she wants: especially in the past, this was a big deal for the red haired girl, as it made her feel more insecure and unworthy. In fact, what she wanted the most was to give it her all for her friends and return all their favors: however, she always felt outmatched in that regard.

Like Arianne, Courtney was also fond of Pokémon and wanted to become a trainer, but was rejected the first time she tried to apply for Cape College. Her parents, always supportive of her daughter, decided not to wait another year and let her join Safari Academy instead, using most of their savings and doing their best to cope with the expenses. This made Courtney even sadder when she realized she didn't manage to graduate in two years, and she really started to believe this wasn't for her. Just one year later, however, and the red haired girl is all done with school and ready to conquer Kanto!
Courtney is actually about one year younger than Arianne, as her birthday is March 26th!

Courtney's team: Magby, Shinx

What expectations do you guys have on Lavender, from what you've heard about it's Trainers iteration so far? :)

A plethora of ghostly things! My perception of Lavender town is that it's a settlement full of mystery and I'd love to play into that as much as possible!

hmmmmmmmmmmm
Spoiler:

I was expecting a Pokemon Tower but I think that was changed already, but I'm still expecting something ghost related there at least near the graveyard

In fact, the whole city could have a weird mixture of older and modern buildings next to each other. People could have different opinions about that too... this is more for, again, worldbuilding and posting consistent stuff ^^
Loom posted at the same time as me I think, so I didn't read this before, but I actually like this.

Loom has a pretty accurate view of the plan tbh! Old vs new is certainly a theme, so expect the eastern graveyard area to clash with the western and central industries.

My thoughts are: what is the town known for, and what is its main business? In the Kanto games, it was known mainly for the Tower, leading me to believe it was a quiet retirement community. Morbid as it was, Lavender was a place you went to die, or just remember.

In the Johto games, the Tower was replaced with the radio tower, and that caused some friction with the older generation. I'm imagining the Lavender of Trainers to be somewhere in the middle.

Perhaps the Power Plant is associated with Lavender now? That makes sense, considering the Electric Gym. The town has a rustic feel, but it's trying to be more modern. Solar panels on roofs, wind turbines along the south side by the bay, basically the town sells electricity now.

I hope the Gym Leader isn't one of those "we're modern now, I'm going to be a crazy inventor with a lot of tech" type Electric leaders. I actually hope they're a bit of both worlds, maybe a retro enthusiast who accepts the town's new direction, but still has fondness for the old timey aesthetic. Oh, and probably has a Rotom.

Groc gets even more things right ;D

I hadn't planned on a Rotom but... honestly it makes tons of sense. Ghost _and_ electric! Hmmm.

My friends. Lavender is up (the real one).

No gang wars, and I opted out of a plot-heavy event in favor of a plot-light one while the focus in Lavender will have to be the cape trainers' first gym battle(s)! I hope that it is enjoyable enough :) See you at Jarmie's birthday party!

PS: love your new CSS style, Lina!

Love the latest posts! Exciting battle, and seeing Casey and Richard be introspective is very interesting.

As usual, I've made a mess of the levels... am currently trying to straighten things out >.<
