So I'd wanna know more about a few things-
"I guess he would be considered very self driven although he would love to hear and follow others if it is something to do with a different region."
Which makes sense; he's learning from people after all! Is he good at talking to people and getting the information he wants? Does he steer conversations into topics he'd like to hear about? Like how some people get impatient and keep turning the convo back to what they want to talk about without regard for what the other person wants to say.
"As for negative aspects, he has only really been to Olivine other than when on vacation and at Cape, so there isn't really much to fear. If I had to give him something, it would probably be self doubt that his pictures are good or not. He also struggles with the idea of not being able to help his family and afraid that he would do less than his siblings, a fear of not being as good as they. With actual fears, he doesn't fear anything, yet. That could and probably will change depending on what he encounters we he starts to actually travel and see how bad the world can be."
THIS RIGHT HERE is where I really wanna get into it.
I suppose for him only being to a few places is a negative, but that's not really a trait. I'm looking for personality distinctions rather than background info. Self-doubt is a fun one to expand on. Is it exclusive to his art? What things trigger that doubt? Is it debilitating- does it prevent him from doing things he otherwise could or would do? If yes, how so and if no, why not?
Being afraid of not living up to his siblings, that's also interesting, and if you're going to pursue that angle I'd expect him to think about it frequently and I'd want to know things like: what do his siblings do? How is he going to put himself on par with them? In what ways can he compare himself to them?
Those're mostly story-based questions, though, and we'll have fun talking those through in the discord. :) From an SU, I just purely want to see more of Alex's personality. For me he seems just extremely mellow. Like, he's kind, he likes everyone, he doesn't struggle with a whole lot, he goes with the flow. And yeah, some people are like that, but everyone's got peculiarities, opinions, quirks, y'know. So what are some
strong traits of his? They don't have to be negative, I suppose, but I do subscribe to the idea of exploring a character's flaws. Irrational dislikes, fears, struggles, behavior patterns. Things that could get them in trouble. Or at least a "neutral" trait, as in "one that could be considered a positive in some situations and a negative in others.
With a character of my own, I'm going to
bold the strong traits from their SU-
Alton has his head in the clouds. All the time. He hyper-focuses on ideas often and will spend days doing nothing but chasing them to their conclusion. He's very practical and hands-on, frequently taking on quite a bit more work than he needs to simply because he likes to be in control of it. He genuinely wants to help people and primarily does so through his work in his family's business. He's very unsure of himself when it comes to human interaction and doesn't have many friends, though his extensive family makes up for that. Kind of. He's also physically weak, which is not ideal for the type of journey he will be undertaking.
He likes peppers, chutney, office supplies, his Aunt Marie, and math. He dislikes soggy bread, cheap pens, and people who think they are better than everyone else.
My preference for emphasizing the negative is clear haha but I have a few positives (wants to help people; good at what he does) and negatives (physically weak, socially awkward) and the lovely lovely neutrals (prone to hyperfocusing, practical & hands on, likes to be in control) that go either way. The list of quirks at the bottom is just a fun bonus that I like to throw in. :P I'd really like to see something like this in Alex's SU!
I do want to also say that I realize this is kind of a lot, but we who have been in this RP for a while have had a lot of time to flesh out our characters and understand how they work in this world, and coming in late means you didn't have that kind of time to develop along with us. So I just want you to have the opportunity to set Alex up as a really solid character that can blend pretty immediately with the rest of the cast!
Speaking of:
"I don't really want to put anyone on the spot as they may not be interested in interacting."
We're all interested in interacting ahaha don't even worry about that ;P
feel absolutely free to hash this out with me i am here to help develop & love discussion~
