Trials of Olympus​

For years the gods of Olympus have ruled over the earth, skies, and water. But it wasn't always like this. Way back before the reign of the gods, there were the titans, and before them, the primal gods. At the start, there was chaos, and from her came the earth and the sky. From them, the primal gods, and from them, the titans.

Each time a new generation was born, they overthrew the previous rulers and assumed control. But gods and titans are immortal, and it's only a mater of time before they attempt to regain control. Today, in the year of 1978, Erobus, the primal god of darkness, has done just that. With the power of darkness at his disposal, he has attempted to free massive numbers of monsters from Tartarus, in order to slaughter the demigods and then rage war on Olympus.

Our characters will meet in Three Fates School for Troubled Youth, where they will learn of their godly heritage. While many of the students at Three Fates are enrolled because of their troubled past, most of them are just demigods that were sent there for their protection from monsters.

Locations:

The Cabins-

A circle of cabins, each one dedicated to a specific god or godess. The children of the god or godess that the cabin is dedicated to will live inside the cabin for their entire stay at camp. Demigods that haven't been claimed by their parent will stay in the Hermes cabin until claimed. (All characters will start out unclaimed, and being claimed will be done in the roleplay)

The Big House-

Contrary to the name, this is not a jail. It is in fact the meeting place of the leaders of camp, as well as a place where quests are planned. Inside the attic the house holds an even more unique secret, as it is home to the Oracle of Delphi who gives prophecies to potential quest candidates.

The Climbing Wall-

Just what you'd think. It's a large wall with climbing holds that helps demigods train. Oh, and it also spews lava if you take too long. But that was pretty obvious, right?

Camp Borders-

The magical barrier that keeps out mortals, monsters, and bad weather. Any of those three things can enter through the barrier with permission from someone inside.

Dining Pavilion-

Basically the mess hall, but fancier and outside. The pavilion has a table for each cabin. Campers are forbidden from sitting at a table that is not their cabin's table.

The Stables-

It's where the horses and pegasi are kept. That's pretty much it.

The Armory-

Where everyone except the Hephaestus cabin gets their weapons.

The Forge-

The Hephaestus cabin makes their own weapons and gadgets here.

The Woods-

Monsters are kept stocked in the woods for practice hunting, and the local dryads help keep the forest growing and healthy. Every Friday the campers host a game of capture the flag, which isn't as innocent as it sounds. They play with actual weapons and aim to incapacitate their enemies and literally capture the enemies flag and bring it back into friendly territory.

Absolutely! In fact, I think I'll edit that into the SU. It might be best if I can know what people plan before they do it. I had meant to have that as a part of the SU form but writing up the SU form at midnight made me miss a couple things.

Actually the 1970's was the time where many of the civil rights movements started, plus the Greek gods were also not exclusively known for doing things with members of the opposite gender, if you know what I mean. ;) So still harder, until you get to camp.

The school is in New York State, somewhere down close to NYC but far enough away that it's not in the city.

Basically if your character isn't "bad" per say, they still would've gotten into trouble on accident with monster attacks and such, even though they wouldn't have known that's what it was. And most likely their parent/guardian would have gotten them into Three Fates fully knowing the school was designed to protect Demigods.

Huh. Ok then, I knew it definitely was a thing in Greek mythology for same sex relations. Alright then, gotta update my pop culture references of 1978 (basically, that means asking my dad about what his senior year in high school was like :P). And my technology. Welcome to an era of disco, pay phones, landlines (those won't have much use since they put demigods at risk from what I remember about cell phones in this universe, right? Or were landlines the exception?) and gaudy fashion (which may or may not be applicable since my char is a son of Aphrodite).

Male / 17 / Mississippi

♒ History

-------"God, what's wrong with me?"

-------On February 19th, 1961, a newborn baby boy wrapped in a blue blanket was discovered late one crisp Mississippi night in the backyard of Reverend Jacob Gliese. A housekeeper heard the resonant bawling of an infant from the kitchen and ran to get Gliese who declared the spontaneous appearance to be a "blessing". The babe was assumed to be orphaned and was promptly adopted into Gliese's family. He named the child Henry.

-------"I've lived in Minnie all my life. Was a good kid… Went to Church every Sunday. Did all my homework, ha…"

-------Raised in the greatly religious small town of Minnie, Henry was a frequent attender of his local church, being that his father was a member of the clergy. The Southern lifestyle for the boy and his father was fairly uneventful which was greatly preferable to them. Of course, when things turned unsettling, they were made all the more noticeable.

-------"When I was… nine, they asked me to read something out loud in Sunday School… a really short passage from the BIble. Real simple. And I… couldn't do it. It was really hard. The words would just… not… come to me. And I just… stood there… stuttering… And everyone was in stitches about it… But it wasn't funny… Because after that moment with them just laughing and laughing, I couldn't read anymore! I was completely illiterate! A dumb kid!"

-------Henry began to suffer from symptoms of dyslexia in his primary years which was incorrectly interpreted as simple stupidity. For the majority of other children in his small Southern community it was nothing detrimental that he was "dumb". However, to his adopted father, proclaimed to be "the sharpest man in Minnie", it was very much so.

-------"He spent so much of his time trying to get me to read that damn Bible! Y'know, I could understand it all, or at least I thought I could! I just couldn't do it the 'right way'! The 'right way'! And I still can't! Aaaugh!"

-------During his initial high school years, Henry was pressured to more or less abandon academics and focus entirely on sports, particularly football. Around his 15th year of age was when the birds became involved.

-------"Okay, so I'm playing, right? I'm streaking to the 20-mark line—I got the ball—and then all of a sudden this big hawk comes right out of nowhere… Blindsides me… I go flying… Team member runs over, asks if I'm alright; 'What happened, dude, you just dropped like a stone!' I say, 'Dunno, man! This bird came out of nowhere—", and then he goes: '...what bird? Henry, I didn't see no bird.'

-------And that's it. The last two years of my life, condensed."

-------Henry began fervently reporting "attacks" from "giant, vicious hawks and eagles" that would swoop from seemingly nowhere, none of which were identified by anyone but himself. The claims were assumed to be yet another side effect of his "dumbness". It all culminated into Henry being perceived as a non-serious fool amongst his peers, if not an outcast altogether, and further harmed his relationship with his "father". Their differences were made strikingly clear as the two tended to clash on many occasions, usually when Henry reported something strange and the reverend not wanting to hear any of it.

-------"I try to be his son! I want to be his son! We look alike! Same hair, same face, same build! But… he won't listen to me! I try to tell him things and he won't listen! I can't talk to him… I can't talk to anyone 'cause they think I'm dumb and crazy… Meanwhile there's the birds. One came in my window once. I got a feather from it—I got proof—and Dad didn't want to hear it! I just… What else do I have to do?"

-------1978: The reverend receives a letter addressed to Henry Gliese. It is signed by his 'real father', under a scrambled pseudonym, inviting him to New York for 'classes at his level'. The community is greatly suspicious of it, as news of the invitation traveled swiftly, and Henry himself was very reluctant to leave despite everything. However, Reverend Gliese insisted the opportunity was a great one, one to "expand Henry's boundaries" and ultimately reasoned that a trip to a place that was completely new and different would somehow bring the boy closer to God. Henry accepted this reason.

-------"I don't think he'll miss me. If I don't come back from this other clown all the way up north in the big city who I guess just decided to take me back… I don't think he'll mind that much, if I end up staying, or if I just don't come around to Minnie to again. It's because… he knows. He ignores it all, but he knows. He sees me at night when I'm looking up at the stars… When, despite all the Sunday Schools… prayers… Bible readings… despite everything… I feel… deep down. Up there. Up somewhere. ...there's more than just a God out there.

-------It's a real scary feeling."

♒ Appearance & Attire

6' 2", muscularly built. His eyes are a glittering hazel, always shifting from green to brown. His hair is wavy, black, cut short. Henry matured at an abnormally rapid pace and henceforth is very mature in terms of body structure. His face still emanates a soft and youthful air.

Dresses casually. Thick Mississippi heat dictated tank tops. Henry owns very little longer clothing, aside from one sweatshirt with the University of Mississippi printed on it. Toplessness was not a rarity for he and his gang, especially for him, the "brute", with all his muscles and such. One consistent belonging of his that may or may not constitute as "attire": Henry has a night-blue blanket with a golden urn-like pattern dancing along its rim; he's had it for as long as he can remember. Afraid of ruthless shaming on account of him carrying around a "nightie", Henry hides it, but does take it out to ponder over. He believes it to hold some significance.

♒ Personality

Astonishingly amicable. Henry is an extrovert, drawn to and empowered by other people. He feels most alone when isolated. He finds thorough satisfaction in helping others and is willing to push other priorities away in favor of assisting a person in-need. Owing to this, he can act servile, saying what others would like, doing what others would want. This in-turn leads to a popular perception of him as charismatic. He can compel others by giving in himself.

Henry is temperamental overall. His temper is fleeing and his composure is brittle. He turns flustered when patronized in the slightest sense or faced with incredulity or doubt, making him seem overly defensive. When peeved he becomes icily sardonic. When utterly incensed he turns loud, bombastic. It is very hard to convert back when he has reached boiling point.

Ganymede; God of Homosexual Attraction and Romance, as well as the "Cupbearer" to the Gods of Olympus

♒ Abilities

Astrology ;; Being that Ganymede is represented in the constellation Aquarius, Henry holds a connection to the stars. By tapping into a corner of his psyche, he can trace the branching paths of potential futures, whether that concerns a particular situation or the probable fate of a person. Henry has no sway on possible events, nor can he determine one solid future. He may only determine latent possibilities and effectively strategize from there.

Amokinesis ;; To an extent Henry can influence the emotions of others, particularly love and desire. He is prohibited from "mind control", putting words in peoples' mouths or causing them to partake in activities they otherwise would refute. Henry's ability is essentially powerful persuasion, planting suggestions and thoughts in targets' minds and leading them to think more fondly or even more romantically of a person than before. He also has the ability to remove inhibitions that would otherwise prevent a person from being upfront about their feelings towards someone in-particular or even towards a situation. Henry's Amokinesis works more effectively when used against males than with females.

Dyslexia ;; Though not an "ability", technically, his dyslexia stems from instinct; his brain is unknowingly "programmed" for Ancient Greek and the Latin language. Because of this, these languages would come naturally to him if Henry were exposed to them.

Due to his upbringing, he speaks with a distinct Southern inflection.

His blanket and a bound journal are his two greatest possessions.

His favorite color is diluted yellow.

He feels most at ease when observing open expanses of water or a starry night sky.

He deeply despises birds.

Hmmm, from what I've seen Ganymede is merely a mortal that serves as cup bearer to Zeus, however since he is immortal and happens to work for Zeus I think it should be fine. Not to mention there's probably a version of Greek myth out there that calls him a god anyway. Greek mythology happens to be the most inconsistent collection of stories I've ever seen XD

To get right to the point: You're accepted!

I do think that his abilities may be a little under-powered though, if you want to make them more powerful down the road you have my permission. Definitely not because I was designing an NPC to be the son of Eros (greek cupid) that could force people to fall in love or cause them to hate each other with a single arrow After seeing your character though he's a lot better than the NPC that I spent 5 mins on, so I'll be scrapping him. I have plenty more ideas that can replace him though. :)

Well, I have been thinking about it and I'm not sure of an exact number. But maybe somewhere around 15 max? I don't think we'll get anywhere near there though. Although I don't know if I have the heart to turn people away so I might allow more.

So, I see Disclosed has been accepted. Sweet. So, even though Henry has amokineseis, is it out of the question for a son of Aphrodite to have that plus charmspeak? Also, I didn't see any others on there, but do you have any ideas on what kinda other abilities a child of Aphrodite might have?
