TURN THAT LIGHT OFF!

Are you good conserving energy and utilities?

I'm decent at it. I never leave water running when I am not using it, it cuts off the second i finish brushing my teeth. I also try not to turn the lights on in rooms before it is dark outside, unless that light is really going to be useful to see extra detail, like getting colors I'm mixing together right. It was hammered into me as a kid to use natural lightning until you can no longer see, and having a light or television set on in a room that you were not in, was unthinkable, it cost money. I instinctively do as I was taught now.

I am more lax about using the ac or fan though. Having survived hot summers in LA with no cooling system I do not want to go back to that, especially with asthma. Mum and I argue when I touch the air before it's over 90 degrees fahrenheit inside, but I don't have the steel to just open a window as the temps rise.

How are you with managing use of essentials?

Unless I absolutely need to I try to keep the lights off. Even at night. If I need to go to the bathroom (unless I know I'm really going to need the lights) I use my flashlight on my phone. It's just enough light without being to much or disturbing the sleep cycle. I can walk around my house during the night without the lights on. I will use a ceiling fan during the summer before I turn on the AC unless I have to. I grew up not having AC so I'm used to melting...lol.

Oh yes. But it is literally impossible when you live with someone who does the opposite and then complains about "wHy iS tHe eLecTriCITY biLL sO HiGh?????!!!!???!?!?111"

All my clothes wash in cold water. AC is set to 75-78 degrees (in farenheit), and all major lights are off with the exception of dimming lights at night. I don't like walking in the darkness so I always keep these nightlights that turn on when it gets dark.

Decent! We didn't run the aircon much back in Australia unless we really felt we need to, and even then the one we had was so powerful we only had it on for a bit. Now that we live in the UK, we had the heat going for a bit, and it was pretty quick at getting everything warmed up if we set it high enough. So we didn't use it for very long usually, and definitely not overnight. It is easier to just bundle up - that alone usually makes me feel warm enough ❤️

I used to keep the water running during brushing teeth but stopped that years ago, thank goodness. I honestly can't remember why I did that before.

I am definitely not when it comes to turning the light off, I'm scared of the dark and need it on at all times during the night. I do try to turn off the water while I'm brushing my teeth, but I usually space out and forget... So, unfortunately, no.

We were poor growing up so it's set in stone that I turn off lights whenever I exit a room.

I'm not scared of the dark although I prefer a bit of dim light because I find it annoying if I need to get up late at night and can't see anything.

If I'm walking outside in the dark I'll also use a dim light.
