Twerking And Grinding

These women! They're the best and totally got into twerking at the end.

This is the best thing! Seeing older people react and do things young people do is hilarious!
Speaking of which. This is related.

Yes, there more disturbing stuff than twerking. It's called porn.

But twerking and grinding is still pretty weird. People do this? I mean, come on, there's better things to do than to just shake that butt in front of the video camera.

Sex on camera is so disturbing... not. It's just sex, which is perfectly natural. And twerking/grinding isn't always for the camera. Go to a club, and you'll find that out very fast.

Exactly, exactly my point. (Although I don't go to clubs, but my sisters do it with their friends and it's very disturbing each time they do so.)

The most disturbing twerking I've seen would be from the one who popularized it: Miley Cyrus. There's just something about her that makes everything she does unappealing...

Wait, I totally missed your point, wha-?

Well I said this is a disturbing thread, and someone else said that porn is more disturbing. *this is where I just noticed I didn't send the post I wrote earlier in response to that* and I've messed up here and confused you.

Miley at the VMAs had no butt. Worse off, it was too similar to a chicken butt. Not a good pair of assets for twerking.

I hope no one finds her antics attractive and/or appealing because...it's not. Her behaviour as of late was nothing I would have expected she would do back during her Hannah Montana days...

She wasn't even doing it right smh. But yeah, she fell from grace with that stunt, for sure.

Did you know that one of the dancers for Miley Cyrus actually quit her tour because of that humiliating teddy bear performance they made them participate in during the VMAs? I don't blame her too - that was degrading.

Source.

Oh dear. I don't follow all these entertainment things closely so I would not have known if you didn't mention it, but yeah, wouldn't blame her either. I would not want to be associated with Miley Cyrus in any way \:

I don't like it because it's basically dry sex but most of all because no one actually dances anymore. Dances aren't fun when everyone is grinding and no one actually wants to dance and be free and have fun. Instead they press themselves against each other, boring. Dancing against someone can be fun, grinding, not so much. I even Robert if girls' backs hurt after hours of grinding. And theb there's the stories of guys getting erections and also sex on the dance for like please keep it classy.

This is a high school dances perspective, not clubs.

When I was young, grinding was what the kids were doing, and it was tasteless and disgraceful. I've never grinded, and never will. Humans aren't pieces of meat. We're not sex puppets. Being overly-sexual is not a good way to represent our species. Our consciences make us better than that. Or should.

Twerking is just the "new" grinding. It's equally degrading and puts focus on aspects that shouldn't quite simply be the focus. It might be judgmental, but because I so deeply associate this kind of behaviour with the "wrong crowd" and people with a less-than-desirable code of ethics (in my opinion; to each their own), I would never befriend anyone who engaged in this kind of behaviour.

And I'm quite content and comfortable with my own sexuality, just to toss that in there. There's nothing wrong with sexuality in itself; however, these kinds of displays are completely unnecessary and disgraceful. You don't need to sell yourselves on sex appeal. It's why I hate marketing campaigns and television, and why I don't have cable TV. I much prefer to read, and although books can be quite sexual and controversial, too, at least my brain can take a step back and process what I am reading and analyze it accordingly. With TV, you're basically gobbling up a bunch of crap and don't have the time to process any of it. It's one of the reasons a lot of people no longer think for themselves (whether they believe it or not), and a big culprit in spreading the glamour of this kind of behaviour: those partaking in it are basically brainwashed into thinking it's OK to degrade themselves if it attracts attention. It's gross, and I hope it'll just pass over and be replaced, hopefully, with something less sexual (and therefore more morally-sound, in my opinion).

I don't expect everyone to agree either, which is why I tossed in a bunch of "in my opinion"s in there. What's ethical for me might not be for others, and vice-versa.

Can you clarify as to why it's degrading.

Can you clarify as to why it's degrading.

Anything overly-sexual on purpose in public settings is degrading of the gender involved, not just the individual. A man could twerk. A woman could twerk. Anyone could twerk, and it would degrade their gender. For me, these kinds of actions only worsen the mysogeny (and whatever the male counterpart of that is) that is already a problem in society by promoting promiscuous actions and behaviours that eventually tell the opposite sex that you are "available" and that is "what you're there for," since such actions paint that picture of you. Modesty is definitely not a bad thing, although it often carries a negative tone. Just don't expect people to respect you (and others, since how you're representing your gender will inevitably affect how the perceiver views others of the same gender, voluntarily or not) if you decide that this kind of behaviour is OK in public. And especially don't whine about a lack of respect either, since you made your own bed when you decided to do it.

Asides that, as humans, our ability to analyze and understand consequences should be enough to tell people that twerking is, at its core, a very sexual thing (which is why I mentioned that I am, in fact, comfortable with my own sexuality, just to keep that off the table). These kinds of displays shouldn't be in public i.e. bars, clubs, parties, dances, prom, etc. where people should be respectful, polite, classy, etc. as well as conscious of others around them. If you want to twerk at home, then that's fine; do what you want in the confines of your room, living room, bathroom, or wherever else you want lol but once you're in public or at a social event, you have a social obligation to behave appropriately and follow certain standards, and twerking falls short of that obligation. This applies to both men and women who twerk.

Though if you should twerk in public (or do anything else equally degrading, such as wearing extremely revealing clothing) and something does happen to you, that's not on you: that's 100% the person who did it do you's fault, so I'm definitely not victim blaming or anything like that; however, for little things like a lack of respect or judgment, you definitely brought it upon yourself by taking overly-sexual ideas and acts into public rather than keeping it at home.

Also, for the purpose of this reply, "you" doesn't mean anyone in particular. It's just the way I explain things lol
