Twerking And Grinding

Can you clarify as to why it's degrading.

Maybe because of the perceptions that others may have if we engage in those sorts of behaviours? \: Women are over-sexualized to begin with, as far as I know, so in my opinion, as a female, I'd find it degrading to partake in them too. So personally, I'd think people would just view us as being sexually driven; I mean that's the impression I have of Miley Cyrus these days so I'm in that pool of individuals as well.

That's like saying "If I get married and keep my name, it's degrading because of the perceptions that others have if I choose to keep my own name." Saying it's degrading because people with more judgment than they know what to do with decide they like you less doesn't follow; all that means is some hyper-judgmental people like you less. I mean, it doesn't help that twerking and grinding are often done by people of lower socio-economic status, and also by black women, which adds a nice element of classism and racism to the automatic "GROSS" reaction people have without bothering to think through their own prejudices.

My point in a less roundabout way is just because some people will judge you for it doesn't mean it's degrading. Women are forcibly over-sexualized; we're also expected to be good girls and not have sex with too many people and hold out while men push us, which is one of the reasons so many people react so strongly to women taking control of their own sexuality in a way they want.

I don't understand why anyone has an actual opinion on a dance move. It's dancing..it's having fun..who cares?

I will never do either of those. In my opinion, you look childish, like you JUST learned about sex and wanted to try to be "sexual" to be cool.

I won't hate on anyone who does it but I still think it's foolish.

I thought that was what twerking was...

I can hump the air if you stuff dat three fiddy in my panties gurl ;) Honestly though I've never tried twerking and probably couldn't do it due to my low flexibility and being generally unfit.

To me twerking is a sexual ritual used to attract boys from the ghetto.

Your last line is directly related to your first line. You never cared to look up the cultural history of twerking because you see it as "a sexual ritual to attract boys from the ghetto", so you have no idea how it's actually done.

I can't do it because it's difficult but I have no problem with people doing it.

Twerking also isn't something only women do, although they do appear to be the majority. Personally, nah. Tried it, no butt to bounce. -shrug-

Wasn't there another similar thread..? Anyway, nope. Never tried, never will. Don't want to look anything like Miley Cyrus or do anything that might associate me with her, and her antics.

I can do that weird twerk that people who don't know how to twerk do. It's kinda like trying to move your butt but accidentally arching your back out too much or something.

You've NEVER twerked before??? I find that so surprising. It seems like something everyone would at least try once, in the privacy of their own room at least. For fun.

Is it surprising because I seem like the type of person to twerk or because of what you said? XD I won't be offended if you say the former, LOL. But no, not even in private.

It's not something I really don't do matter how "fun" it is. I don't have the butt anyway. :P

1. It looks embarrassing. 2. I would fail so badly.
