Take this Pokemon and subtract the "T".
[PokeCommunity.com] Ultra Beast. What Are They?

No, they did not destroy a whole universe. Play the game and they'll explain exactly what the Ultra Beasts are and what they do.

Spoiler:

I admittedly have not quite finished the main story yet so there's possibly some bit of information I'm not aware of, but when was it stated or implied that the Ultra Beasts destroyed one of the timelines?

Either way, all we know is that they're powerful beings from a dimension separate from the Pokemon world's dimension.

They aren't Pokemon though. You can catch them in balls yes, but Poke Balls are also some sort of crazy, highly advanced technology--these things can safely digitize and store living beings of great power for long periods of time. It's not crazy to think that they could develop a special kind of ball to capture literally anything.

I actually quite like the idea of the Ultra Beasts. There's definitely more to them, as well as Necrozma. I just hope don't leave a number of unasnwered questions like they did with Kalos.

Those Ultra Beasts are quite dangerous to the Pokemon World but they don't want to be in the Pokemon world too.

I see them as extremely powerful creatures from an alternate dimension that we don't enough about just yet. I can imagine in the follow-up games to Sun & Moon that Ultra Beasts and their dimension will be explained in a lot more detail.

I would say they're another species of Pokemon from another world.
Let's say they are probably Aliens, just like what we would've called our counterpart from another planet.
Perhaps in the "Ultra-beast world", they call the "actual" Pokemon Ultra-beasts too.

We really don't know much about them so far despite them being a mayor plot point, we know they are pokemon-like being from an alternate dimension (Ultra Space), but there's really not much more to it.
I don't think we even know what exactly connects the Ultra Beasts to Solgaleo and Lunala, they have this power of going through dimensions including the Ultra Space but we just don't know why, there's so many things unanswered.
I hope we get some questions answered when we get to see Necrozma's backstory, he is apparently connected to them but he is not an Ultra Beast himself, which further raises the question to what Ultra Beasts really are.

Despite not knowing what they are I've grown to like them quite a bit myself, they appear to be quite terrifying beings but in the end they are just scared creatures that are stuck on a different world.

I'm disappointed the only cutscenes with the ultra beasts were the climax and the couple we were shown pre-release. For all the chaos they supposedly caused, there's no evidence whatsoever. And adding how much fanfare they gave the Ultra Beasts in the post game, implying they destroyed a few universes, the fact that their involvement is both strictly post game and inconsequential barring the ending is a strange choice.

I'm rather disappointed with the lack of information and somewhat of a cliffhanger left with the Ultra Beasts. Hopefully the next set of games will pick up on them. Given how dimensions are tied in, this could even be a good transition to Sinnoh remakes (because Sinnoh's lore was all about dimensional travel and space-time wibbly wobbly stuff). I'd think the Creation trio would be more relevant than the Sun and Moon duo tbqh.

It is a little disappointing that it seems like there wasn't much more to learn about the Ultra Beasts other than that they're strange creatures from another dimension. I mean I figured as much before I even played the game.

That said I do really like the designs. I'd love to see Stars introduce some "regular" Ultra Beasts (as in ones that can evolve and breed) if we get to explore Ultra Space in more depth. I don't know how likely that is though.

Nihilego is definitely my favourite, probably because it doesn't have any eyes it sorta reminds me of Starmie (another Pokemon I love) and I just appreciate the alien vibe they give off. Guzzlord is another one I really love for the fact that it's so unashamedly monstrous.
