I can't see Pokemon ever giving up on movies as long as the franchise is going, to be honest. Even if it underperforms. The franchise is so big now I'm not sure they care - the sales in other areas make up for the lack in others.

73

I agree, as long as the franchise is alive, they are going to keep dishing out movies, irrespective of how it fares.

They're entitled to their opinions. Doesn't make them right. /shrug

I suppose the Japanese performance is first and foremost in the minds of the developers, but they cannot and will not ignore Pokemon's global appeal.

76

Yo-Kai Watch may have influenced the Sun & Moon anime, but failed to crack the international market due to the designs being "too Japanese". Pokemon has designs that appeal to wider audiences, which is why it's more successful internationally.

...plus Western audiences are generally quicker to cry foul when they see "clones" of popular franchises, even if Western journalists don't have a single shred of objectivity. Although the time when a Famitsu score meant something are over a decade gone now too.

Yokai Watch never got any exposure here...no TV series airing on regular channels, the game took forever to reach us after the US; even the toys are scarce. Fail.

Haven't seen (or even heard of) Yo-Kai Watch, but Pok?mon clones don't have to be bad. In Huntik people can call forth "titans" from amulets and battle with them. Pretty familiar, but it's still one of my favorite cartoons.

But still you'd be forced to have a certain move if you want to keep going right?

Maybe if they made a special hidden 5th move slot for Hm's only and still allowed you teach them as a normal move (if this makes any sense) maybe that'd be nice...

Sure, but I don't mind a move such as Surf or Fly in my moveset.

That sounds interesting. Or maybe it could be that you can always use the HM move when you have a compatible Pok?mon in your party (e.g. a Water Pok?mon to "Surf").

I actually had started watching the Sun and Moon anime awhile back but stopped after awhile.....I wasn't really feeling the new series after coming off all the stuff that happened at the end XYZ. Maybe after enough episodes build up I'll try again.

And I've heard of Yokai watch but I don't think I'll watch that anytime soon.

My thought was actually dumb.....ride pokemon will always be best because you're free to use a team of whatever you want without having to worry about having a certain type to use an Hm move.

Probably best to just leave Hms behind forever. XD

...gonna have the theme song for that freakin' cartoon stuck in my head literally all day now. xD

Pokemon by no means owns the rights to the monster catching/battling formula, though. I mean, if people REALLY want to play the "Pokemon did it first!" game, I'd throw Dragon Quest V in their faces. And yeah, there are plenty of things since Pokemon that have made that their own too, and done a good job with it. Being the most recognisable doesn't always mean the most influential or the absolute best~

You protect BW!Ash?

...well, it's a tough job, but I suppose someone has to do it. Rather you than me. xD

83

I think you're one of the only people who even likes BW Ash there, Tara. He and SM Ash are always subject to criticism because the former acts like a complete noob in battle while the latter acts way too childish personality-wise and is viewed as a laughing stock.

One thing that does redeem BW Ash is his outfit. It's very bright but not too lazy, which is why SM Ash has the worst outfit. It literally felt copy-and-pasted from the Sun & Moon games.

84

But Ash is a child isn't he, I mean he is (forever) 10 years old :P? When I saw SM promos, I thought maybe he was gonna age. But apparently he hasn't (or has he? Haven't watch the Anime in years).

Maybe he momentarily woke up from his coma and realised two years had passed? /shot

89.

What if he became immortal after being turned to stone in the first movie?

90

Maybe he's still stoned and this is all going on inside his head. He's having a coma within a coma. Comaception.
