News We might see a Black Hole today

    The Event Horizon telescope project aims to try and see the event horizon of a black hole visually. This afaik has never been done before? They have called to global press conference today at 13:00 Universal Time, doesn't that hint at spectacular results? :)

    I'm so glad to see we've come so far to now finally get even the first glimpse of what a real black hole looks like
     
    lmao i admit it wasn't exactly Interstellar, but still the fact that they have proven visually that this is a thing, is super cool.
     
    So cool to see that. Black holes just boggle my mind. My biggest space related fear is a black hole swallowing the earth and that's how we all die.
     
    Watched the stream with a bunch of others at work. Was neat! Now to see how they manage with the one in our galaxy.

    There's other less... exciting? dangers that are way more likely. Which would be also very unlikely in themselves, but my point is a BH engulfing Earth needn't be worried about.
     
    Yeah we're more likely to get hit by another huge meteor/comet or even more likely to have Earth-based disasters wipe us out, so let's live without worrying haha
     
    Wow, i heard about this earlier from a friend.
     
    Spaghettification sounds much better than frying in our radiation spills, and much tastier. But I reckon the future is pretty bright, on all fronts.

    Still. This is epic. Each day gets more and more absurd in terms of achievement. Looking forward to the day where we can design our own bodies and implant our own consciousnesses in them. See you in hell, small mouth...!

    I'm sure we'll be dead long before that happens.

    That's so cool to see though! I wish however they would perhaps stick a bit closer to home and sort out the celestial space around Earth maybe...
     
    I for one think it's a really interesting theory that the Big Bang was everything sucked into a black hole in another universe, expelled all at once :D So, maybe within every black hole, there is the possibility that another universe pops into existence. With a different flow of time, likely.
