What Are the Chances this Happens?.

So I made another thread asking what I should do between buy a 3DS and USUM (plus any other DS&GBA PKMN titles I may desire) or a Switch and SwSh. I have ultimately decided that a buying a DS doesn't make sense because with each hour that passes the console is being rendered more obsolete, and I have also decided that I won't be getting a Switch. I came to that decision because Pokemon would be the main reason I'd get it as a long time devoted Pokenerd and it just appears to me that Sword and Shield do not look like good games by Pokemon standards at all. So I spent my money on NBA cards of my favorite Miami Heat players instead.

You know what would make me get a Switch though? If they dropped a Pokemon collection with all the previous DS and GBA installments merged into one. How cool would it be if you can just be chillin' playing B2W2 or Platinum on the Switch then be playing ORAS or USUM the next hour? I know Nintendo would be making less money this way than if they did it by releasing solo ports of these games, but who in this fanbase really wouldn't love a collection with every Pokemon game on it for the Switch? I think it would be a great idea and I don't see myself reimmersing into the Pokeworld unless something like this happens. Do you guys think it will? I honestly think there's a rock solid chance like a Geodude at the casino.

    Heavily unlikely.
    1. Undermines future sales of remakes, be it Let's Go or remasters. Squeezes fans for cash regularly. (See: Pokemon Home and Pokemon Bank.)
    2. Designed older graphics for a small screen. Probably looks very blocky on a large television (and even in handheld). Turns newer fans away.
    3. Would have been an excellent anniversary announcement. Doubts any new announcements for this year.
    4. Might be time-consuming to port games from multiple different old systems. How would you handle the two DS screens, for example? (Knows little about this, however.)

Gives a Black/White Switch port low, but non-zero odds. Brought Crystal to the 3DS, after all. Perhaps in November 2022?

Likes the idea, for the record.

All the points you've raised for it not being likely that it comes to fruition are absolutely valid and therefore I am sad...

No, thanks, I don't want that. The 3/ds games especially because they'd literally have to be reworked to not have the second screen. I don't want that. Would rather just play the originals over a switch port.

I literally don't want to spend 59.99 plus tax for games I already own but on the Switch? That doesn't make me "out of my mind".

Hard to say, really. I think there is potential for the first three generations to come to the Switch...although I also think that people have been begging for Virtual Console on Switch for years and it hasn't happened, and for handheld titles to come to Nintendo Switch Online, and it hasn't happened. But Nintendo have absolutely zero business sense on this front, and like to drip feed things like this to fans: it was damn near the end of the Wii U's life cycle that Pokemon Snap made it to the VC for example, and that was something people had been asking for for years. So you can't rule out the possibility of Gameboy/Colour/Advance titles comes to the Switch *eventually* since we're only about halfway through its life cycle at present. Maybe a little bit over.

I don't think there would be any issues with porting them across - NES games are on the Switch, after all - but I highly doubt they'd bundle them all together in a collection when they could easily charge higher prices for them individually and people would buy them. Or just have them as part of NSO, in the unlikely event they ever actually do something worthwhile with that service instead of releasing shitty NES/SNES titles that nobody actually wants. Nintendo's track record with releasing classic titles suggests to me we'd get NSO ports rather than anniversary collection releases...probably time-limited, although if they were going to pull a stunt like THAT then this would have been the year to do it, so perhaps not. Hopefully not. Mario 3D All-Stars and Fire Emblem have me extremely paranoid and worried for the future of classic releases on this front.

But Gens I-III pose the fewest issues, so those are the ones I'd say have a chance. The existence of Let's Go doesn't factor into things really - those are spinoff titles aimed at a different audience, even if the target demographic is the same.

Gen IV onwards there is practically zero chance though. BDSP are clearly designed to evoke nostalgia through their visual design; I expect for all intents and purposes they will be DPPt remasters, despite being touted as remakes. The only thing that probably makes them remakes are QoL/gameplay features incorporated between Gens IV and VIII, as well as the removal of dual screen mechanics. You won't get the originals on the Switch with those there. The dual screen features alone practically guarantee you won't see Gens V-VII ports on Switch, though. Eventual remakes? Possibly, it depends on how long the Switch lasts for. Although I would say it's unlikely - historically we get one or two new generations and only one set of remakes on Nintendo consoles, and we've got Gen IV on Switch. So I don't even expect Gen V remakes on it tbh.

Would it be nice? Yes, it would be nice. Nintendo have a massive classic library they're just sitting on and doing bugger all with and are ridiculously anal when it comes to piracy, so they should provide an alternative to this and actually make their damn games available on their current generation system. Are they going to do this when they don't need to, despite the absurd profits they could rake in from such a move? Probably not. Because it's Nintendo.

gonna agree with Dawn, here. i can see gens 1-3 perhaps making their way on the Switch at some point, but anything past that... highly unlikely. never say never though, i suppose.

although i can't help but wonder if a classical collection is something planned for a 30th anniversary.

Basically how I feel - I definitely think VC versions of the first three generations are possible, and it's something I'd really love to see brought over. Heck, I'd even take VCs of just the gen 3 games, since I know 1-2 are already available on 3DS and it's a modern enough system that a lot of people still have.

Dawn summed up a lot of how I feel. I wish we could have it, but I just can't see Nintendo going all out with this right now.

I feel it's unlikely, but I would love if it happened. I was thinking the same thing recently while playing emerald. If they released a collection of at least gens 1-5 on the switch I'd probably get it.

This gave me a good laugh, thank you.
