When nicknaming your Pokemon...

Do you tend to do "nicknaming themes"? when nicknaming your Pokemon, if you do? Because I do. I do entire nickname themes when I play Pokemon, such as naming all my Pokemon after Jupiter's Moons, like I'm doing right now in Pokemon Sword.

i try to and i end up failing because my themeing ends up breaking at some point and i take too long to think of a consistent enough name theme for all of my pokemon lmao

that's funny i do a theme w jupiter's moons a lot too lol it's one of my go to nickname themes. my biggest one is food tho. i love naming pokemon after foods, drinks, spices, etc. it's easy when it's a team but oof it can be a challenge when you try to do it to every little thing that you catch

and then some pokemon bless their hearts they get named random shit like mr. update bc i had to update my switch or 7:06 PM bc that was the time i caught it or bathroom bc i named something that as a kid and always name that species that now (it's psyduck in case you were wondering) my poor sword pokemon tho lmfaooo hatterne is vibe check, vanilluxe is tcby, drampa is bully slayer. it's a good time

I don't really follow a theme, but maybe someday I will. Usually I just give each of them a name that seems fitting. When I end up using the same Pokémon for a second playthrough, I sometimes reference that, like naming my Gardevoir in USUM "Rocketproof" in honor of my other Gardevoir in ORAS, "Waterproof".

Other times I name a Tsareena "H Mayonnaise".

I did sweets for a while in gen VI! But nowadays I tend to not nickname, or just go for something that fits without a theme to it. For example, my Wartortle is Krile, and my Flareon is Ruby. Sometimes I still go with the occasional sweets/dessert names (still my fav) but not enough to name everything after that. :droplet:

Nicknaming Pokemon in games have been about a 50/50 for me. Sometimes I cannot be bothered and others times I will do it.

When I do choose nicknames they are quite random. Sometimes they fit a theme of the pokemon (IE. Lightning type called Thunder, Spark etc. etc. just more creative). Sometimes I will give off a quick nickname like Jet, Clipper, Flash... Sometimes I will do a reference to other games... Like nicknaming a Rapidash "ButtStallion" as a nod to Borderlands, Oddish "Goomba" , Blastoise "Bowser" etc. I think you get it...

I usually have a naming theme that somehow ties to the run I'm doing or just some random theme. And I stay with it most times. But I can also run out of names for the theme, which is exactly what happened in my current run, where I named Pokémon after my friends. So I picked another theme - names of my favourite twitch streamers and youtubers and I'm slowly running out of these names as well.

The only two times I did this was in Black (transformers names) and Sun (breakfast foods and pastries). Both times I run out of ideas and give up. But I still think Pancake is a very cute name for Popplio.

I try to always nickname my Pokemon, usually whatever first comes to mind when I catch them. One time I nicknamed a Lapras in reference to a Metalocalypse character because it used Perish Song.

I usually nickname mine based on what I think of first or after video game characters.

For example: I named my female Aegislash "Seiros".
