Tfw you're trying to actually dodge spoilers for once. MGSV reviews have landed. So far, so good, but so have spoilers which will probably only make me more confused if I read them. Brb, moving to the north pole for a week.
Hold on a second I'm going with you.

I saw the spoilers

I'll just say I absolutely cannot wait for the meltdowns on September 1st.

I'm avoiding spoilers like the plague, especially since I likely won't be able to play MGSV on release because I'm still trudging my way through Peace Walker.

Although the reviews, despite being 9s and 10s across the board, are confirming my fears. It sounds like they've jammed MGS into a generic open-world game with the mission-based structure of Peace Walker (which I'm not a fan of, from what I've played so far), lots of filler missions and side quests that are required to get the full story, and an overall scaled-back plot.

Is it okay to play witcher 3 without knowing the story and characters in the previous installments?

Yep, that's exactly what I did. The game does a great job of explaining all the backstory naturally through dialogue. Nothing too complicated happened in the previous installments, anyways.

Microsoft is in a great position to become the leading gaming company, isn't it?

Xbone can stream to Windows. Xbone controller works by default on Windows 10 and soon they'll release a wireless dongle and a chatpad for it, basically negating the need for a keyboard in pretty much every game that requires one to switch profiles.

If M$ can make Windows stream to Xbone, they'll kill Sony and Valve in one strike! But they probably aren't too interested in that.

I doubt they'd kill Valve. Valve probably wouldn't be affected by Windows streaming to Xbone. If anything, they'd actually gain a larger crowd for it, as it would entice PC gamers to play steam games on their Xbones and Xbone, non-PC users to actually look into this long ignored platform for a gargantuan number of games that they couldn't otherwise play. It's a win-win, really. Well, for those two. For the companies that supply their games on Steam but rely on the more consistent pricing of console sales, on the other hand...that's another story.

And I don't much see them killing Sony, either, but considering 2015 prior's homogenized console experience that I talked about, until Sony can actually get some exclusives on its console (and by that, I mean already available, not "to be released"), Xbone taking the charge and making its console stand out, and its timing really couldn't be better considering how it's doing compared to the PS4 (and similarly, how little the PS4 and its devs are doing/releasing for the rest of this year). By the end of this year we'll see relatively extensive B/C, a redesigned UI w/ Cortana, and Windows 10 on Xbox One (with apps, which opens up quite a few doors). Will it help them take the lead? Possibly, but that really depends on how they advertise what sets the Xbone apart during the Black Friday/Christmas Season.

Is anyone else looking to get the Steam Controller this fall? I know it's kind of a weird one, but I'm pretty excited for it myself. Being able to play just about any game with it is a very exciting prospect.

I was going to buy that, but then I remembered why I don't have Steam: devastating summer sales and frequent discounts. I already spend far too much on games as it is; that would open the floodgates and ruin me. I've never been keen on gaming on my laptop, so it'd be well suited for me by letting me play on my TV, but still...money.

That said, if/when the handheld version comes out, I don't think I'll be able to resist...

I haven't pre-ordered it yet. But, I'm extremely curious on how it feels (seriously, I must know how that pad will work out). I've kept reading stories about how it feel great and natural, so that has definitely peaked my interest. Likelihood of me buying it at launch is pretty high, but we'll see.

Well, the Steam Controller is nothing new, really. It's just a standard design with touchpads. More programmable buttons will help it with certain games, but beyond that, it's nothing we haven't already seen.

I'm curious whether touchpads will be more accurate in FPSes. They will, but how close to a mouse? A good touchpad can be very good indeed.

Valve really needs to get this SteamOS thing going, however. This could ensure we get more Linux ports of older games in the future as they're eventually rereleased. The biggest advantage of PC isn't so much the graphics but easy backwards compatibility. And Linux's is better than Windows'.

The type of game I really want to try with the Steam Controller is RTSes. I'd be very surprised if the controller is fully compatible with those, since those games have lots of hotkeys. I'd be grinning from end to end if I could play Civ 5 on my TV, sitting on my couch with a controller, however. :P

...Yeah I can get that. I usually end up throwing all my money at steam so I can buy games that won't even run on my computer.

So obviously Gran Turismo 6 is superior to GT5, but I found GT5 on sale at a department store for $9.95. Should I go for it anyway? I've never played the games in the series, but I'm wanting to expand my PS3 library to more than just GTAV.
If that's your reason, then I'd say not.

After all, PS3 has a good number of games on it. If you need games, no need to resort to buying the predecessor of another better game (and a racing game at that, so there's not much merit to it) just for the sake of adding to an empty library.

I was kinda curious about it anyway, I did see GT6 at Target during their liquidation for $30. I don't mind racing games, I just wasn't sure of I should have gotten 5 or 6. Anyways, I decided to pick it up as $10 isn't much, and I also got Borderlands as well.

GT5 was really good, so it's worth a grab for $10 regardless of philosophy for me and if you like it you'll be able to play it a TON, so the value it definitely there.

The sad part about that is that I played a lot of GT5 and barely any GT6 :X I own it because I own every GT game, but still. I'll probably play a bunch of GT7 when that comes around.

^ I'll probably be the same as you in the coming few days. Still waiting for my disc to arrive. So I could download it off the damn steam store. :p

Their decision of not actually having the game on disc wasn't cool, though. In places like India where you get shitty net speeds at most, asking for a 20+ gigs installation = waiting for days. :(

Anyone else looking forward to the Cities: Skylines expansion, After Dark? Night time is a very welcome addition in my book. I want to build the biggest party city since New Orleans! Gotta admit, the cities look pretty damned good lit up.
