What is, in your opinion, the worst album your favorite artist has released?

My favorite artist is definitely Anberlin. And their worst album, imo, has to be Dark is the Way, Light is the Place. The songs barely reached my expectations, and a few even managed to go under. =/

At least the cover art was awesome. And the sweater, which I have. 8D

One of my favorite bands is Slayer, the majority of their albums are so good, that the only worst album to date was their 1996 release of punk covers called "Undisputed Attitude", it wasn't just me but a majority of the fans also think the album was not good. 1 out of the 16 songs was good, all others were too bad.

The only metal song on the album "Gemini" was only good one, all others sucked. I don't like punk at all.

A couple of my favourite artists that just.. Well.. Changed their music a lot and they pretty much sound like a completely different band.. For example Blink 182 (Their album 'Neighbourhoods', it's good, but ever since Tom started Angles and Airwaves, he's been bringing his 'magic techno' into the meant to be punk band). Also the latest Chili Peppers album 'I'm with you', I like two, three of the songs, but I just didn't wasn't that into like I am with the rest of their songs.
I understand that they probably get bored playing the same style of music for so many years, but if you grew up listening to how they used to be, and how they now all of sudden are like that, the old stuff just seems better in my opinion.

Lots of my favorite artists don't have a lot of albums so let's choose one who does. Maaya Sakamoto. She's got 8 studio albums, but her first four where made with the arrangement, production and/or composition of Yoko Kanno. They're all very good, but her fifth album, Yuunagi Loop, is a bit of a let down since Sakamoto had a variety of new people helping her with her music then and none of them are as good as Kanno. The songs on that album are mostly lackluster, generic, forgettable songs. Sakamoto's singing is still as good as it's always been, but it's not being used to it's full potential.

After Yuunagi Loop the quality of the music jumps up by quite a lot as Sakamoto got used to working with other people and writing more of her own music.

I'd have to say that Recovery from Eminem was his worst album to date. A lot of people, including Eminem himself think that Relapse was a joke but I actually enjoy most of the songs on that album. There's quite literally only 2 songs on Recovery that I'll willingly listen to and enjoy. Those songs being Not Afraid and Almost Famous.

808s & Heartbreak by Kanye West.

It's difficult to decide my favourite artist so I just decided to go for Kanye since this album was really disappointing. One of the best things about Kanye is his experimentation, but it hasn't always resulted well. While this was a really personal album for Kanye, I really didn't like most of the songs due to their R&B nature and autotune. There are a few good tracks on it though.

@Brizz, I have the same opinion on Relapse/Recovery and it's starting to become a pretty popular one I think.

    Coldplay's album Mylo Xyloto. I haven't even listened through it completely and wholly because... It's not attracting me at all ;;
Nooo, it's a good album honestly! You just have to give it one heck of a try and persist with it, then eventually it becomes quite good ahah. (Seriously we're talking about seven or eight full listens here before it became 'decent')

My favourite artist is Biffy Clyro, and their worst album for me was unfortunately their newest. They seem to be going in quite a soft poppy direction which is a big shame for them based on their older work, but what can you do? I guess it's the more commercially smart route which isn't like Simon Neil at all, so perhaps he really does just like the new sound a lot more, but the albums are producing far fewer gems as time goes on for Biffy. Hopefully they'll go back to their older sound soon or I'll be finding a new band for my top spot.

My favorite band is Kings of Leon, but honestly, I love all their albums. I know a lot of people would disagree with me, but I think they're all unique and I like how they've progressed through the years. If I were to pick a least favorite, I would pick Only By the Night. There are more forgettable songs from that album, like Manhattan.

Another favorite band of mine, The Mars Volta, actually have an album I really dislike. Their last album was Noctourniquet and I honestly didn't like it. I only liked about 2 songs from it. It's a shame too, because not only was I looking forward to this album, but it was also their last. Not a great way for them to go out and it disappoints me.

Razor Leaf is gonna kill me for this post, I realize.

My favourite band is Fleetwood Mac. But given that they've had so many member changes and genre switches and whatnot, I'm gonna take the period that's nearly universally thought of as the 'good period': 1975 - 1987. In that time, the band released five albums, and while four were various degrees of good/amazing, one stuck out as being a complete stinker: Mirage. Featuring none of the songs that would remain with the band til now, it's a cacophony of '80s music cliches, drugged excess, but with none of the impressive production that made Tusk such a joy to listen to underneath all that cocaine that the band were snorting at the time. A real disappointment.

Muse and their latest Album: The Second Law

Don't get me wrong, the songs they do right on this album they do OH so very right, however the rest of the album just doesn't really evoke...well..anything. I just don't click with alot of the songs on the album. It feels a bit empty. If one good thing has come off of it though, it makes The Resistance look really good ^_^

Right off the bat Avril Lavigne's third album came to mind. I think it was called The Best Damn Thing.

Sorry AvL, really upbeat pop just isn't your thing. I wish she would return to her Let Go and Under My Skin days. There was some of it in Goodbye Lullaby but only one or two songs. We'll see what the new album has in store for it next month.

It has to be Pablo Honey by Radiohead for me. It's by no means a bad album, but any other album by them is at least twice as good. I can forgive Radiohead for one mediocre album though, as I cannot think of another artist that has consistently delivered 7 quality albums in a row.

Unfortunately most people with long discographies that I've followed tend to have poor albums early on in their career that are poor by virtue of excessive filler / simply not being my thing, so that's not very interesting. Of the "artistic" people I have love for, M.I.A is probably the best for this thread. First two albums were so perfect and then '/\/\ /\ Y /\' happened. Noisy mess, though it did contain 'XXXO' which is among her best singles.

    u wot m88.

I've found it to be quite the opposite of this.
With most artists with long discographies, I get into their later music first, by which point it has evolved so much that what they did at first is a world apart in terms of genre. Britney Spears' bubblegum pop will never be to my tastes, for example, so I find her earlier albums borderline unlistenable. I find the more "artistic" the person, the stronger they generally start, so going into decline later in their career is more likely. Unfortunately most "artistic" artists I have affection for do not have all that many albums to their name, so I've yet to really encounter someone going into decline later on (outside of the M.I.A. example and to an extent Madonna (though I've only judged her discography from ~1998-onwards as of right now)).

    Justin Bieber: Believe...
His new songs aren't the poppy cute songs anymore, I prefer his pop songs to his R&B ones.
