would you prefer more version differences?

Typically, the Pokémon games come out in paired versions, most of which don't have a huge amount of difference. A few catchable Pokémon will vary, the mascot will differ between versions, and sometimes a few areas may look different (ie, Gen 5).

Do you find that the version differences are enough to warrant purchasing both games? If you could add additional version differences, what would they be? Do you think it'd be interesting to have somewhat more major story/area changes across paired versions?

no, I do not want much version differences. Why? So that I don't have to buy 2 games of €50.

There's just too much version exclusive right now, that I'm fine with 1 game instead of 2 with different exclusiveness even slightly different roles like how team magma wants to dried the ocean or aqua expanding the ocean if difference in storyline I'm happy buying both games.

I wouldn't like version differences to the extent in a massive change to the story, however I do like the idea of a few different locations for each version. Take White Forest and Black City for example, I really liked the concept of that and feel like Game Freak could move it beyond a gimmick and make some really cool locations for each game.

Absolutely! I'd love to see more differences between versions. I like to imagine two versions where we essentially have two different stories with the same setting. This justifies actually having two versions beyond tradition, and would give us a lot more to do in a region.

Basically my thoughts as well ^__^ I've never really felt the need to buy both games, as I'm not at all into collecting every available Pokémon, so some more major changes between versions would be a huge incentive.

Honestly, I'd prefer it if they only released one game that had the content and quality of the third games in the earlier generations - Yellow, Crystal, Emerald & Platinum - rather than releasing two separate versions with version exclusives and little else to distinguish them.

Version differences really don't bother me all that much. I'll usually end up buying both copies anyway, but I'm not fussed whether or not the differences are drastic or very little. Saying that though, it seems Sun & Moon will have more differences with time, storyline with the Ultra Beasts and so on.

It would be nice to see something like what they did with 5th gen games, just for something different for those who have both games. But nothing there was super exclusive, which is nice for anyone who doesn't want both games or to play the same game twice.

    Yes, completely!

I'll just quote a previous post I made on the subject:

I'd actually make use of having two versions for narrative purposes: have a story that starts exactly the same way in both versions, but by the end of the game, the events surrounding the player's victory become completely different. The path that the player follows and the order of obtained badges would also be very different from one version to another.

Another use of two versions and 700+ Pokémon: what if instead of having just a handful of version-exclusive Pokémon, each version would instead get its own complete fauna (I mean, how many families do we have that are basically cross-generational counterparts? Lots) with only a handful of Pokémon in common.

I wouldn't mind more version differences. It would make me feel like I'm actually buying two games instead of one for sixty bucks.

I loved 5th Gen's idea of the environment sometimes changing based on version (as shown with areas like Opelucid City, Reversal Mountain and Black City/White Forest) and it was a shame we never had something like it replicated in any other game.

Sun & Moon has the time inverted between versions, but that's really the only difference other than version exclusive Pokemon going for it.

Having differences in both games would deff make me buy both games faster. Imagine if each game had a different plot or region or even Pokemon. You imagine version exclusives being a whole entire Dex

This! I can't imagine there'd be huge differences like a different region haha, but some differences in characters, maybe a couple different plot points between games, and a few other things would go a long way towards differentiating each game in a pair.

So far Sun and Moon protag looks nice. I kinda feel bad for BW and BW2 protag though I feel they just copy and edit. I hate FRLG where's the smiley face and it's just look bland to me

I would love to see some more Version exclusives only if it has a difference and not just like Having this game be the same and then make a clone of it and just have different exclusive difference What i want to see is two seperate games which has it's own story and goal!

Nah, I think it's nice that they're not too different tbh. This way, you and your friend can buy different versions, trade mons and talk about the minor things that are interestingly different, but still enjoy the same game.

I would actually like to have more differences. Maybe not in main content, but areas could look different, or more version exclusive Pokémon. Heck even items that you can obtain in order to evolve certain Pokémon could be version exclusive. For me it would add more difficulty, which I like because usually I play through these games way too easily :|.. I'm sure people can agree.

I think the differences are just fine as they are, but if I had to choose, I wouldnt mind seeing some side missions and side plots be different with the main story being similar.
