As the title suggests, would you personally recommend the 5th Gen games: Pokemon Black, Pokemon White, as well as Pokemon Black 2 and Pokemon White 2 for people who had never played a pokemon game before?

If you would, what features about these games would stand out for them? If not, why wouldn't you? Feel free to share thoughts!

I would recommend these games because they did so much to stand out from other generations. The plot is more darker and would definitely appeal to an older fans, and there's also a Kanto vibe going with the Pokedex given in B/W especially it's nothing but new Pokemon, and it helps you get attached to them.

Definitely. The Gen V games are my favourites, so I'm probably a bit biased, but there are so many things about them that make them great. The darker story and interesting characters can appeal to those who want a good narrative, and the fact that the initial Pokédex consists of entirely new Pokémon means that everyone who hasn't played these games before starts off having no preconceptions of what Pokémon are good or bad. Sure, a new player has never seen these Pokémon before, but neither had any fan who played the games.

(I'm rambling; I'll shut up now.)

Even I've only played Black, I would recommend the fifth generation games to a new fan.
The Pokedex is only the Generation 5 Pokemon so all the Pokemon will have the same feel to them.
Progress is pretty straightforward which would be easy on a newcomer.
Last, the plot is pretty thought-provoking but enjoyable especially in the first two games.

I also recommend these game to the newcomers . These games introduced so much features like reusable TMs , different evo stones and your two rivals cheren and bianca , very good music and so many other things . It helps newcomers to know new generation Pokemon.

Heck yeah! The games had a great storyline and like desinishon said, the game introduced a bunch of new features that I enjoyed/were helpful. For example, did you know that Black/White (2) was where the idea of O-Powers really originated from? Instead of being called O-Powers, they were called Pass Powers and you got them from the Entralink. These powers ranged from powers that would increase your encounter rate (Encounter Power) to powers that increase the exp you get from battles (Exp. Point Power) just like X/Y. Plus it gave us one of the best Pokemon trailers:

I would definitely recommend these games for newcomers for the franchise due to the new look the game got compared with previous gens, e.g. the new Pokemon, animated cutscenes etc.

I would definitely recommend these game. My experience playing Black was one of the best experiences I've had and I can't wait to eventually play BW2. My reason for this love and why i would recommend is the in-depth storyline involved with Team Plasma. For the first time (as far as i remember) you don't defeat the team around the 7th gym, you are introduced to them very early on, you get to fight the leader after the E4 (with a badass scene of the gym leaders coming to defeat the mages) and it even continues a bit after the game with Looker and the Mages. Lastly, there is just so much to explore in the region and the whole new Pokemon and Pokedex really does allow for that Kanto vibe and becoming attached to them.

I actually think that out of all the Pokemon games, B/W and B/W2 would be the ones that are most approachable to newcomers to the series. Like others have said, the plot is much darker, it has deeper themes that might appeal to an audience that prefers that sort of thing to the more light-hearted, and (admittedly) not-so-deep themes we're used to. And even besides all of that, they're great games in their own rite, so I'd definitely recommend them to new players.

I have recommended BW and the sequels a few times myself. They are treated as a nice fresh start unlike the pervious 4 generations, and do a great job of introducing all things Pokemon to the player. The Unova region features a great selection of Pokemon too, so it's not like having an unbalanced region like Shinnoh with random 1st gen Pokemon thrown in. A totally original region; perfect for the beginner :) Trust me, giving BW and the matching sequel makes an awesome gift for a "new trainer" of any age :D

Actually gen 5 is my favorite gen and they have my favorite pokemon games but i would actually not recommend it to people just starting to play pokemon.
For one thing, gen 5 is extremely unique to the other games and there are are features never seen again like the xtransiever. People who pick up the game with that would need a lot more adjusting to if they decide to play any other pokemon game.
Also, since gen 5 is greatly resolved around a good storyline, people might expect all pokemon games to be similar and may dislike them for being a bit dull, like x and y.
Finally, bw and bw2 just doesn't feel like the right definition of a pokemon game. I'm pretty sure everyone's heard of pokemon and they may start playing expecting things from what they heard, they'd be getting very different results.
Although I'm saying all this, i still definitely think they should play those games as they are one of the best, they just shouldn't play them first
