You're a tad bit tardy

I take it that most of us either go to college, grade school, or work? We all know that being punctual is a key factor into how successful we are. In grade school/college, excessive tardies can result in a deduction of your grade. In work it works the same way, although it can be worse. So naturally we try to avoid being late.

    But hey, we're not perfect.

Have you ever been late to something before? Has it ever impacted you in ways like I described above? Are you one of those people who simply can't stand being late?

I am making this thread when I should be on the subway to work. I gotta run!

Since when was the ability to turn up somewhere by a certain time a reflection of your intelligence?

Lateness is a bad habit of mine. When I was in college I use to have to get the bus there and it was the most unreliable thing ever. The bus company would promise to have a bus arriving every ten minutes, in the morning on a week day you'd be lucky to get a bus every half an hour.
I'd get scolded for being late often, but I don't think it had an impact on my education because I always got told what to do anyway and I'd stay behind after class to make up for missed time and more so I could finish up any work.

Needless to say I ended up just walking to college in the end because it was quicker to walk three miles than to get a bus directly from my house there.

For the most part, I'm usually on time. But it seems to me that the penalties for being tardy are a lot steeper than they should be. In high school, 5 tardies was a detention, no matter how close you made it. Which is why I learned to be on time. I don't want to take my chances with professors or bosses at work.

I'm one of those people who would rather get to wherever I'm going thirty minutes early than five minutes late. I always plan out my trips so I'd arrive at least ten minutes early, though unfortunately bad public transport can sometimes make that difficult. I've only been late a few times and they were all because buses decided to not show up until thirty or more minutes after than they should've. >:

Fortunately, though, none of my latenesses really hurt me much. I just shyly went in and sat down in the middle of the lecture.

Ditto to this! I get a bit uncomfortable/agitated if I'm delayed by anyone when I'm on a schedule, I normally leave so I arrive 5-10 minutes earlier than necessary, although sometimes I managed to be 20 minutes early just from bad maths ;__;.

I never said it was a reflection of your intelligence. Maybe it's just the New York City school system, but if you're late a number of times, it'll hurt you academically. Not exactly grades, but overall appearance wise. I guess I sorta misspoke in the first post, sorry.

I've been late to work sometimes though since I have to have a ride to work, it wasn't entirely my fault. I was repremanded once or twice, but I was usually on time ao it didn't affect me that much.

I'm always on time, I have alarms to help me as well. ^^ I was late one single time to work though, thanks to the power going out. I took it hard. :(

I was late for work one time... but that was because the schedule was changed after I went home the previous day, so it wasn't my fault. Being punctual is important. I strive to be slightly early for obligations.

Even though I was on time in school most of the time, there were times when I was late. I usually compensate for this by trying to be on time the next time around.

I was always late to school, especially this past year. I was late nearly every single day, but barely any of the teachers actually mark it so nothing ended up happening to me. As for work I was late once, but no one even said anything to me so nothing happened there either. I guess being late has never impacted me in any major way.

usually they give you a referral and a detention but that's as far as they usually go.

    anywho

I am late if I can't pack up fast enough during passing period (5 minutes?!). That's not a huge problem anymore but it has been in the past.

I'm usually late once or twice a year and at my school if you get 3 tardies it's detention, 6 it's a confrence with you parents, 9 it's suspension, and 15 is court. Under the Truency law. This goes for the entire year too, not just trimesters (Our year is split into 3 sections). So you learn to be on time although there's only a handful of teachers who report you.

+1 to this. I'm 10-15 minutes early for every shift at work, because even though I live less than a minute way, I'd rather be early than late. It drives my friends nuts that I tell them I'll come and pick them up at 12 and then I get there at 11:55 and they're still getting ready lol.

I think it comes from being in a family where we were always late. My mother and sister take forever to get ready for anything and they never start getting ready soon enough, so if I was going anywhere with them we were always late. I really didn't like that, I felt like I was missing out on stuff :(

Unless I oversleep (which is rare but has happened before), I'm usually the one to arrive early to anything, whether it be class or meeting with friends or doctor's appointments. I have a fear of being left behind if I'm late, so I'd rather get somewhere 15 minutes early and wait rather than be even one minute late.

Yeah, I'm mostly completely anally punctual when it comes to pretty much everything. Some of my friends call me 'the dip**** who arrives too early' because it's a pretty accurate description of me. Whether it be school, work, or even social events, I always try to be on time, if not early.

The last time I was majorly late for something was last year in law school. It wasn't anything massively important, but I happened to wake up just as the class was starting... and finally got there an hour late. Fortunately, I had a really nice teacher who didn't actually care at all, so there were no real consequences. It was an accounting class as well, so it was easy to pick up the slack, as well! :D

    Since my last post;

Yesterday I woke up 20 minutes before work started, I live 15 minutes drive away (and had to pick people up on the way) and still made it in time :P.

    How I rolllllll.
