  • What fandoms do you want to/have write/written on besides Pokémon?
I haven't written on any other fandom, but if I got enough time, I'd love to write some Final Fantasy fanfics. Oh, and uh... maybe Disgaea, Elder Scrolls, and Mario.

I've roleplayed Super Smash Brothers, but I'm not sure how well that would translate to a fanfic...

And before I even think about all of this, I need to work on Feral Game. I've been like, PC dead for a long time since my house flooded. :/

  • Why am I popping up now all of a sudden? Um, I'm not sure.

What fandoms do you want to/have write/written on besides Pokémon?
I have yet to complete and publish any non-Pokémon fanfic, but I actually have two barely-started Phoenix Wright fics lying around on my computer (and partly in my head), and for one reason or another a while ago I felt compelled to write a How I Met Your Mother one-shot, which I think is sort of mostly done although I'm not sure I will actually post it anywhere if/when I finish it to my satisfaction as it's, ahem, kind of NC-17-rated and that's both not allowed most places I post my stuff and I don't want to traumatize any children. <_<

What's the longest or shortest your chapters have ever been? What makes them shorter or longer and how do you make it work?
My shortest chapter ever (minus the prologue, the previous revisions and the "chapters" in the Scyther spin-offs which were posted in chunks) was chapter 11 of The Quest for the Legends at something like four pages, while my longest ever (not counting the "parts" in the Scyther spin-offs, which were the chunks in which they were posted but consisted of several "chapters" each) was chapter 37, which was 27 pages.

The general rule these days is that chapters with huge battles in them are the ones that get to be over twenty pages, while most plot-relevant chapters these days are something more like eight to twelve pages, and some breather chapters in between can be less than that, though there aren't a lot of those. Earlier in the fic, the chapters were generally shorter, whether they contained battles or not.

Hm... I believe the shortest chapter I ever wrote was about four pages (maybe one or two pages shorter)-- the longest was maaaaybe twelve? These days, I tend to not worry about how long my chapters are; I simply write until I get from point A to point B of a chapter, whether it takes one page or twenty. Quality over quantity, that's what I try to strive for.

Digimon, DragonLance (lulz), Spyro the Dragon, Sailor Moon, Samurai Pizza Cats, Speed Racer, and Super Secret Fandom.
Also, Final Fantasy VI and Final Fantasy VII.

    EDIT (10:40pm): And Kingdom Hearts.

Astinus, have I ever told you how immensely awesome you are?
Another DragonLance fan! I haven't read all the books yet, but still. DragonLance is amazing.

Also, Mekaj: What are you doing?
Either spamming to get fifteen posts to post URLs, spamming to showcase his whatever that was, spamming to be annoying, or all three.

I go with the last one.

Heck, I want to find a DTB fanfic that focuses on Havoc during the Heaven's GAte war, and not another HeixYin pairing fanfic with a twist, but I've yet to find one.

You know what I did? I'm writing it...

Seriously, there's a saying that goes. If you want something done right, then do it yourself. This is friendly advice btw.
Sometimes, though, you're just really sick and tired of reading your own writing. Sometimes, you just want to read someone else's take on the same thing, to be surprised by their writing instead of yours that you know so well.

Isaac Asimov fanfiction? I have a pairing from one of his books I want to read about.

I wrote a lot of Danny Phantom fan fiction before I got into Pokemon, one which included a Danny Phantom/Scooby Doo crossover. Fandoms I want to write about one of these days is:

    - Legend of Zelda
    - Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha
    - Circle of Magic
    - Full Metal Alchemist
    - Pandora Hearts
    - The Keys to the Kingdom

What's the longest or shortest your chapters have ever been? What makes them shorter or longer and how do you make it work?

Shortest chapter was probably Chapter Three of my dead Pokemon fic, Destiny's Tag, although all the chapters in that fic were extremely short. xD

Longest chapter has to be Chapter Three of My Guardian Angel, my current fic, due to the epic battle that I wrote. I have a feeling, though, that the chapter I'm writing right now (Chapter Six), will be longer. We'll wait and see. :o

    Yeah I suppose.

Is it Susan Calvin related, Foundation related, or some other books? The only awesome relationship I came across so far seem to be inter-species(if robots are species. XD)

    Oh and Bay. :3

Chapters 37 and 50 are the longest. 37 has that scene with the song that eventually became a spinoff one shot, while 50 was the epic climactic battle versus the evil boss dude.

Shortest chapter... I dunno, probably one of the early ones where the quality was lower and such.

What fandoms do you want to/have write/written on besides Pokémon?
I haven't written in any other fandoms. Someday I'd like to write a fic based on the 1985 Buick LeSabre sales brochure or a Quality Inn hotel directory, though I'm not sure how that would work out.

Other than that, I'd like to write about some of my favorite anime series (To Heart, Hitohira, Myself; Yourself, etc.) but I suck at romance writing so, yeah...

If robots are a species, then it is inter-species. Baley/Daneel from the book The Robots of Dawn, which is part of a series about those two characters.

Y'know, reading about how everyone here can't write romance really confuses me because I can but shouldn't be able to.

I've never tried my hand at writing romance, but frankly I have no desire to write anything like that... and besides, all my time is taken up with my Suicune project anyway! ;3

I don't think I can. I'm trying to - Artificial is primarily a romance, after all - but I'm not sure how it's turning out. More reviews would help me figure that out, maybe?

The first part of Asty's post is also relevant because Artificial is, by that definition, an inter-species romance. Idk how I feel about that . . . does that count as technophilia? Then again, it was unrequited love on the robot's part, so I guess . . . I guess I should stop spoiling my story. D:<

Speaking of more reviews (Misheard, I'm looking at you and your post), I've been thinking of doing a very small thing to get more reviews posted here. It's an idea I stole from another forum (because I'm a klepto like that), only not as extreme as what they're doing.

Basically, I would pick one day of the week/month(/year?) where I would ask for volunteers for posting reviews. Everyone who volunteers their time would then pick one story, review it, and we would all post the reviews on the same day. That way, the section gains some activity, people get reviews, and everyone's happy. It might even get more people to review, since the reviewer will have a week to work on one review. (Though I'll gladly review two stories, since I'm the moderator.)

  • I haven't written much at all on romance either - idk, maybe one of my one-shots involve it in a-ways though, but I'm more one that tends to write straight-out comedy, really.

What fandoms do you want to/have write/written on besides Pokémon?

Nothing in fact - only been writing one fic so far, and a one-shot during that. I have written some original stuff though, but no other fandoms have gone through my mind...yet.

What's the longest or shortest your chapters have ever been? What makes them shorter or longer and how do you make it work?

The shortest was 5-6 pages originally? That was for my prologue/earlier chapters. The longest has been 30 pages, but the chapter was in parts - kinda two-chapters-in-one because...well, I could. ;P They've been a bit over the place, although recently they've been averaging the higher-teens more often. I just think beforehand what I want to happen in my chapters, and then write it in. Before I tended to underestimate how much I'd write, but that happens less often though.

But I feel chapter length isn't that important, as long as the chapter does what it is meant to do - tell that part of the story effectively and entertain.

    EDIT:

  • That's actually a good idea, Asty. I'm all for it - I really could do without this lethargic (lazy, more like) review drought I'm going through. Talking about giving reviews here, of course, although I have a bit of a drought in the getting as well, though my lack of updates may have something to do with that. :/

EDIT: Yep, like Beachy said, monthly sounds best to start with.

Haven't really written any others, apart from a couple Spore ones on a site that's hooked up to a ventilator and having the plug pulled slowly...

I'd really like to write a Romper Stomper fan fic, but that's not really postable on a family site such as this.

Actually, if I have time this year, I might try to revive my old fanfic on PC. Being fired, having half-days at school, and having my girlfriend dump me has created a lot of free time, and I hate doing nothing with my time.

    Long time no see!

The yearly thing was more of a joke suggestion, poking fun at how ideas just seem to die when placed in my hands. But monthly would be a good place to start, to see what sort of interest we'll get.

This wouldn't be from sppf, right? ;P But hey, I liketh ideas for more reviews and the sort. =D
    *whistles innocently* Perhaps.

I knew you would be able to guess where it came from, since you're also planning on participating over there.

But all right. So long as there's some interest in this idea, we can work on this. And maybe if I can get this off the ground, we could perhaps get back to reworking the stickied guides.

Feign, you do realize that we have a topic that everyone else is discussing? As Nick (the moderator who started this thread way back when) said, this is the DCC of this section. Which means that you can't randomly go off-topic when there's a topic being discussed.

I allow randomness when the FFL has been dead for a few days, but right now an idea on how to revive this section is being tossed around.

So it's decided on a month per round for this. How about the amount of reviews each person does? There are two ways to figure that out: either everyone does the same amount or reviews in the time allowed, or each person picks their individual review count.

I, personally, am leaning toward the latter option, if only because only the individual can correctly guess how many reviews they can get done in the time given. If I say "three reviews in a month for everyone", then some people might get that done faster, while others may only have time for one or two. (This also depends on the length of the fic and review.)

    Thoughts?

  • I'm for the latter option - as said other people may not be able to do as much as aset given amount do to irl stuff and so forth, so it'll be easier for them to decide what amount is actully good for them. (And if they can't come up with anything, they can just try to do as many as they can, simply).
