Your country/state's local food delicacies~

So, what are some local delicacies that most common where you live? Is it something you really enjoy eating, or do you hate it? What other delicacies would you like to try from other states/countries of origin?

I added state/country because I know that country alone would be too broad a term here. Just because a majority of his live mostly in the US, it'd be easier to also add state for those that do. ^^

I had to google for Arizona because I don't know that much on mine. It appears that prickly pear cactus is pretty famous and popular. I also know that we have these prickly pair gummy chews that are SOOOOOOO good.

Anyway, here's what else I found as well:

Famous foods of Arizona include heritage foods such as prickly pear cactus, mesquite pod flower and Navajo-Churro sheep, which are the oldest breed of sheep surviving in the United States.

Maybe if anyone else who lives here knows more about Arizona than I do, they can tell me and others what some of the other local state delicacies are. XD

I don't know much about this particular section of my state (Florida), but not too far away from me, there's a place where Cuban cuisine is common. Quite a few restaurants. I grew up eating this stuff too, so I'm kind of fond of it. Some things commonly in bakeries and restaurants include:

- Guava pastries: Sometimes filled with cheese too. They are really flaky and messy, but very tasty. Guava's so sweet. Speaking of guava, they also have smoothies of it. Cuba is all about guava, it seems.

- Tres Leches: This translates into "three milk." It is a cake that is vastly unhealthy, but is one of the sweetest, flavor filled things ever. So moist, it practically melts into your tongue. I think some stores sell a chocolate type of the cake, and my God, it is an orgasm of calories.

- Croquettes: I absolutely LOVE these. SO delicious. They're kind of like these breaded pellets with this mushy meat inside.

- All kinds of rice: White is my favorite and can be easily made in a rice cooker in a short amount of time, but some varieties include yellow and congri. Yellow rice is also simple to make. They sell packets here in Wal-Marts and you just boil them.

- Tostones: Fried plantains. Also delicious, but they are fried, so the healthiness is kind of iffy.

There's even a place called Pollo Tropical which specializes in these foods. If you ever have the opportunity, I'd highly recommend going. It's fast food, but tasty and surprisingly healthy.

Oh and there's a few different varieties of orange juice here too. So that's pretty cool.

Youngstown, Ohio is known for its ice cream places. Especially Handel's Ice Cream, which started here and spread out around the country.

You absolutely must try it if you're in Chicago. Most of my friends who have visited love it, although my friend from Vienna argued it was not pizza, but a quiche. Regardless of what you think it is, it's something to try at least once.

Florida promotes their oranges. So, check those out if you're ever in the state.

I honestly don't know really.. We have so many chain restaurants around that there's nothing to promote.

Oh man, you're right! We do have a lot of good food :) Although I agree with the law of the land here, no ketchup on hotdogs! I think they're perfect with just mustard, relish & celery salt.

In Georgia we pride ourselves on our cornbread and grits. And it "ain't none of that there" sweet cornbread neither.

Seriously though. Cornbread. All day every day.

Oh god I wish we had good ice cream here. All we have is frozen yogurt and Dairy Queen. -_- We found the best creamery somewhere in Virginia last fall. I love some good ice cream.

Personally, I'm enjoying some delicacies in my country, notably bakso (or meatball, as some calls it) and also tempe. Rendang is not bad, as well.

Rice cooked with santan ( coconut milk ), added with ikan billis (Millis Fish) , some groundnuts and egg. Very tasty and perfect for your breakfast!


Roti Canai

This is Indian breakfast, like pizza, it is toss to become bigger and thinner, then put onto a frying pan. The crust is very crisp, added with some yummy bean curry or fish curry sauce. :)



海南面包 ( Hainan Bread )

The bread is freshly made and toast under the charcoal fire or ordinary oven for mordern days. Added with some 加央 (kayang, or put a half boiled egg onto it. You really will like it.

This is the best curry mee in Ipoh, 南州干咖喱面 - Nam Chau Dried Curry Mee , strong curry taste and very spicy duh!

Ipoh is the only place where this famous Indian curry chicken rice originated from. The chicken itself is fried well with spice, added with curry sauce, vegetables, salted egg. This is the awesome meal and you would need to take another bowl~

Chinese fried mee is the best around here. The fried mee is filled with smoky taste and does not greasy at all. Added with some prawns and cockles just make this mee even better!


Feel so extremely hot? ( Yeah it's 37 high here for few weeks )

This Malaysia top favorite dessert is from a lump of ice, added with some beans, corns and coconut sugar aka Gula Melaka in Malay

It is sweet, cool and tasty!

Koegel's hot dogs and pickled bologna, especially the skinned viennas. Can't get any better than that in terms of a hot dog.

We have the obvious California roll. Really, anything with avocado is probably a specialty somewhere in California.

Sourdough is super amazing good bread for sandwiches or soup or just eating by itself really. Can you even get it anywhere else?

There's also In-N-Out Burger which seems to be popular with people visiting from out of the area though I don't really care for it myself. And like tons of Mexican food and different fusions and varieties of it.
