  • The way they added things to Hoenn related to Kalos, but left out what Emerald completed made OrAs come off as broken too...

Well I think they would've canceled it after OrAs, instead of before seeing how OrAs were announced six months after XY came out. I think Masuda was building up Gen VI's Mega arc to Z, but perhaps decided to continue it into Sun and Moon. I hope we'll get things tied up there.

However, there are signs that they planned to not have a 'Z' from the start. One of those being that Masuda said he had a lot of things he wanted to share in an interview after OrAs had come out. Also, the new variety show was a hint of a new generation (I mentioned this in the Third version thread too, usually the old one ends as the generation is coming to an end and a new one is about to be announced). A more recent hint to a new Gen was the presence of a new legendary in the movie, in all the years one pops up in a movie a new Gen comes out that year. It was the case in 2013 and XY (Mewtwo Y) 2006 and DP (Manaphy), 2002 with Pokémon Heroes and RS (Lati@s), 1999 and GS (Lugia).
No worries, back then Lorelei's bodeh was the hit. Males figures weren't much objectified back then. You wouldn't want to see the modern fanarts involving Will. :P Incidentally, have you heard of the anime, Free? Male characters are objectified, Pokemon is still far from that for the time being. But one day... :^)

Very true. E4 were so damn minor back then. Personality wise, Agatha was the one who stood out the most due to her fiery temper and resentment towards Oak. Oh and add the part about Lance's heroic actions in Mahogany.
Koga, I dunno. Prolly a development? Or they didn't want to kill more characters. Oops I said kill. Let's see Will belongs to the bishounen category (beautiful boy, a a Japanese thing, hence the name).
Cmon, Betty. :P Lorelei's one of the best elite four from her debut generation. :D

What do we expect in Gen 7? I personally want reboot!
I know you are gonna point out GSC. But let's be real, new games have no other purpose than getting your money (Gotta Grab 'em All). XY/ORAS have the worse timeline consistency, nothing is impossible now. They can tarnish the whole timeline as they want, before the Gen 7 reboot.

Honestly, not that much people care about the plot nowadays. As long as they use the Pokemon-retro graphics and mechanics, it's gonna sell even better than XY/ORAS. Money, Betty, Money. Don't you care about Agatha and Lorelei's disappearance? And the recruitment of Karen and Will?
In a sense, they tarnished Gen I (as a cash cow/cheap substitute for something to work hard for).

Or they can simply play with nostalgia; reusing the sprites to recreate new games. Something like Red 2 and Green 2. Like how did Red ended up on top of Mt. Silver anyway? Lol He could have had been in Dark Cave, in Whirl Islands. Why was Pewter Museum closed? Why did the Safari close for good? (While we know it's bc of the memory capacity, we need plots for those) What about the old man offering Rainbow Wings/Silver Wing, is he a relative of Gold/Kris? The eruption of Cinnabar Island. The transitions of so many things, like Janine and Blue taking the leader roles of their respective gyms and so on.
Disappointed. If one puts it in a good way, like 'hey it's nostalgia we Gen I fans aren't forgotten,' but I disagree. It feel like a simple tweaked low budget re-release cash cow. Feel like dragging the death from its grave.

As we agreed before, I very much prefer a Kanto reboot (see previous convo). Kanto deserves the modern mechanics and plot too!
Never really given it much thought. I can say with certainty that most of my hours with the franchise have been spent between Sapphire and LeafGreen, but I can't say with absolute certainty those are my favorites.

If I had to pick, I'd probably say X or Y. I enjoyed the hell out of character customization.
I don't mind natures, though I never dove deep into them since competitive battling is where they're at their most useful, and I've always been more of a TCG player/collector than a player of the games.

I have no problems with Poison Point and Static, but I've always tended to overgrind and Gen III taught me to be cautious when attacking Electric and Poison type Pokemon with any sort of contact-based attacks (which were distinct attacks, they just never assigned the P/S split to the game mechanics until Gen 4). And you're also comparing 10 year old games to a modern hack that has modern levels of knowledge about the space to work with on the cartridges as well as knowledge of the modern mechanics. Let's stick to a peer comparison for these games.

RSE also did not need the battery to keep the save alive, as the battery's sole purpose was to keep the clock ticking so berries could grow.

Not a waste if you spent the time on EV training in Gen III or there's a move a Pokemon can only learn in FRLG that it cannot learn in any other game version or has a very involved method of obtaining the move in later generations, like if for some reason you feel possessed to want a Charizard with Metal Claw but don't want to spend hours with trying to produce a female Charmander so you can then spend hours trying to breed it with an Aggron, and you can just cut straight to trying to breed for the right nature after porting it up.

LeafGreen fulfillment by Amazon listing. Took all of 20 seconds to find. FireRed seems to be the more popular version and no seller that has Fulfillment by Amazon currently has it in stock.
Nah. I've just genuinely had to cram too much into my head these past 4 years (IT is field where it turns out you never stop learning or needing to learn), so a lot that is not work related has kinda gone dormant/fizzled out.

Abilities and Natures and completely fixing all of the totally wrecked mechanics of Gen I are other advantages that come to mind. Also, not needing an internal battery replacement in order to keep a save alive.

You can still port stuff all the way up from 3rd Gen.

RBY only have that because of the 20th anniversary and Nintendo/Game Freak/TPCI needing something to capitalize on the 20th anniversary.
Whoops, forgot that could be considered post-game. It just didn't really feel like it with how short Johto is.

ORAS and HGSS did the same things Pokemon-wise.

FRLG does still offer a number of things that weren't there in the originals, but not having touched RBY in ~8 years and FRLG in ~4, nothing sticks out off the top of my head.
Night/day kind of bugged me (it was there in RSE, but not obvious), berry trees were probably dependent on the game clock, "no breeding" isn't true, it's just only post E4 since there were Pokemon you could get by breeding that weren't on the Kanto dex, No Gen 2 Pokemon makes sense since it was, well, a remake of Gen 1 (and many of them are there post E4 and if they're not there, they're somewhere else in the generation, like Colosseum or XD), No phone was a gen 3 thing (and PokeNav and Vs Seeker were better anyway since you weren't capped on the number of trainers you could seek a rematch with at a time, while you were capped in Gen 2 because you could only hold a certain amount of numbers), no following Pokemon makes sense since that was a Yellow-only thing at that point in time, and lacking Jessie and James was quite frankly an improvement over Yellow (Jesse and James were cakewalks compared to the Rockets they stood in for, really).

Yellow, while fun, wasn't really any different from RB aside from the Pikachu things and mild story alterations to better match the anime. It doesn't exactly deserve to be thrown on a pedestal.

Did you even explore the FRLG post game? It isn't much by today's standards, but it was the most we had in any game up to that point.
Having played since Gen I (RBY), I actually liked FRLG. I lived off of the remixed nostalgia for the originals that it gave me between its release and when I could finally afford my own DSLite 4 years later (I was 14 when FRLG debuted). Not everyone hated the games.
I bet I mentioned this to you before, but it's rumored that Grey was a real thing until Nintendo wanted them to change it to boost sales. I would say it got mixed result, but it was to be expected. Gen V was on a dying console. Let's hope that GF doesn't delay Z's announcement. It coming out after the NX is announced could hamper sales.

Btw, about DP for GBA. It's possible that they were going to be GBA cartridges with enhanced graphics on the DS, much like GS could be played on the GB but had enhanced graphics for GBC, or how B2W2 had enhancements for DSi.
